Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Subtleconstraints · 02/01/2018 13:28

Ouch Afresh are you ok?

We had the rain here yesterday Foxes - it was really heavy - hasn't stopped you getting loads done I see! Star

Well I am stuck in the car chewing my knuckles after all. My neighbour is out and only the instructor is here, so Mnsnetting to distract me instead...

Subtleconstraints · 02/01/2018 13:30

Agree Zoo coccyx pain is no fun at all... Damaged mine slipping on garden steps and landing on arse less lardy than it is now!

Afreshnewyearplease · 02/01/2018 13:32

Twisted ankle but ill survive! Nothing got me. "Thats why dont run on the stairs" said dd Hmm

foxessocks · 02/01/2018 14:03

Ta das
Daily routine
More washing on
Dusted table
Mopped downstairs
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
Put everything in new purse decluttering in the process
Planned my week
Decluttered porch and dining area, got rid of a few scarves into the charity shop bag
Checked hotspots
Put a few lingering presents away and took some xmas decs upstairs

Time for another tea break I think.

FlyingJellyfishInTheAttic · 02/01/2018 14:03

Wow both threads moving fast! Hope that means everyone has been Flying really well!

I have been at work a lot this last week so haven't had time to post. I did have a weekend child free so around work I manage to empty half the attic, sort out the finances and declutter and organise entire downstairs.

DH mission is to build a shed to store some extra things so attic is empty, my mission is tohave lots of time with DD as she will be with me whilst DH does attic and to sort money for builders.

Subtleconstraints · 02/01/2018 14:17

Glad you are ok Afresh!

Another great list Foxes

Waves to Jellyfish!

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 14:48

How's the riding going SC?xx

Bowerbird5 · 02/01/2018 14:52

Ouch to afresh. Hope you ok and to zoo it might have been heaving the shopping around. Some warm /cold bottles if you can.

SC have you name changed from other thread? Getting confused so many newbies.
I have a magical condition think it might be it playing up due to changes in diet. DD is trying to get me to go vegan.might do a month.

Wrist aching now from vigorously rubbing roasting tin.
Anyway fairly pleased with myself as felt better after getting up and second loo visit.

So Ta Das so far
Hall done. Not done stairs as have to wait until best pal gets home to ask her and her Dyson for cup of tea😁

Kitchen work tops, jars, bread bin, microwave and veg and fruit area all clean and scrubbed top of pine chest. Washing on, done, on rack and just came up for next load. Floor vacuumed. Door done too. Mouse food down two places. Recycling out and compost all out too.

All done by 2:15pm so going to do 1/2 hour of knitting as reward then horrible paperwork then another 1/2 hr knitting. Cards & find journal. I don't know where on earth I put it. I have actually ( I can't believe I am saying this ) enjoyed the last couple of hours. I had radio 2 on and some good music and interesting GP on about painkillers/drugs so went quite quickly and looks lovely. Some people would look and say cluttered but there you go. It's clean!

Further plan
Dust bedroom before going to bed. Bowerbirds look after their nest but I'm not very good at that.
The wind has dropped here, it's raining and we are forecast snow. It is my day off tomorrow but I have to go in as inservice.
Some great flying I think we have all got off to a great start for New Year. Waves at everyone.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 15:08

Ooooh.i like the reward system bower what are you knitting
SC name changes at interval but always same initials so keep track😉

Lisette40 · 02/01/2018 15:17

Dh let me sleep in and had packed all the Christmas decorations by the time i'd woken up at 11.30. he also brought me a cup of coffee.

Should I LTB? Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 15:52

He can come live at mine LisetteGrin
I thought partially trained men were mythical!!

Lisette40 · 02/01/2018 16:02

On the down side he is a tad clumsy but the positives far outweigh this!

I'd forgotten how good the scouring CIF is. Proper cleanup starts tomorrow with our bedroom.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2018 16:09

Hello all,

Just realised I forgot to comment about the idea of a craft thread. I hate crafting (went to hobbycraft today fo get stuff for DD1’s homework and couldn’t get out of there fast enough!) but not remotely offended if people want that thread as well Smile.

Bower, yes, as zoo says, SC is Subtleconstraints. It is a genius idea to be able to regularly name change but still be ‘known’ on threads and I wish I had thought of it!

Lisette, definite LTB for that Grin. Sounds like an amazingly productive weekend FlyingJellyfish. Ouch, Afresh, hope ankle feels better soon. Glad you are all ok for now foxes and have supplies in if not.

Hope the riding going ok SC, can understand the nerves.

Maybe we could share zoo? Greedy for just one person to experience a useful male

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2018 16:16

Cotswold, that sounds fab that your DD can now make herself useful in the kitchen. Cag, speaking of app procrastination, I tend to procrastinate by reading threads about how not to procrastinate Grin. Mercury, DD1 is 7 and definitely can be emotional at times as can most of her friends. I assume this will increase

Big wing flaps to everyone!

Ta da:-
Laundry in progress
Started to strip beds
DH has taken down Xmas decs Star
New trainers bought for DD2
Craft stuff bought for DD1
DD2 has identified some slippers and tops that are too small and a book she doesn’t want anymore.
New printer bought Star. We have needed one for years! Except I fear I have pressed the wrong button while it was installing and it has now stopped ConfusedConfused. Bit worried but going to wait for DH to look at it.
DH has gone to pick up DD1 from her activity and I persuaded DD2 to sit and have a rest and watch a tv programme in the hope of running round house shutting curtains, updating this thread etc.

To do:-
Confess about button pressing to DH and get him to sort printer
Tea

Later:-
Sew on brownies badge the correct way
Shower, bedtime etc
Sort through shoes

Possibly look at PE kit but may have to do this tomorrow.

Off to check printer and shut curtains...

Cagliostro · 02/01/2018 16:39

Ah you've reminded me I need to sew all the badges on the Caglets' sashes for st John. Argh

Hope Lurgy stays away foxes I totally understand the fear.

I finally got to nap with Cagletini but now I feel all out of sorts and knackered. Needless to say not much has gone on today

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2018 16:40

afresh I open to sharing a useful man

I realised i hadn't seen lil zoo uniform...had been kicked under a bed(dirty)
Uniform washed and dried

Need wash lil zoo hair as remnants coconut oil still at front and make sure everyone's sorted for school tomorrow

Cagliostro · 02/01/2018 16:43

I am cursed with printers, we had a total nightmare and I ended up paying for the instant ink we weren't using until my bank card expired... Still not sorted it.

I need to write a long term to do list of all that kind of stuff

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2018 16:56

Sorry to remind you of badges Cag Grin.

Yes, printers seem to be so in-user friendly for homes. That’s partly why we have put it off for soooo long. We did look at instant ink but decided against it. I think being out of sorts with a baby is allowed.

zoo, or dear re uniform, at least you found it!

Not back to school until Monday here.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2018 16:59
