Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Welcome Squirrel Smile.

Thanks for all good wishes and sympathy about washing machine Smile. It’s one of those things that in the grand scheme of things doesn’t matter but is still really annoying Angry. The good news is we actually have an insurance payment plan thing so it should be free to fix or replace (although there may be an excess). So not the end of the world. It is working but just leaking regularly meaning DH has to lift it up and drain it. Engineer can’t come until next Tuesday Shock and I may need to sort something with school pick up as it is one of those all day slots. At least it sort of works in the meantime.

Spent the evening sorting out this repair then catching up with everything so am very behind now.

Hope nobody minds; I have skim read the thread and will just say a hello to everyone rather than detailed personals. zoo, I despise ofsted ratings so fully believe it may still be a wonderful school. Bower, sorry to hear about speeding course.

Big slightly soggy wing flaps to all.

Here is the daily summary for Tuesday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 4 this week which is
the master bedroom aka boudoir.

Please have a look through the information on the website at the relevant zones as I know Flylady is keen that we do look at the website.

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 4.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 4 is here.

Oh, I meant to ask. Any volunteers for leading on February’s thread? Have a feeling we may have sorted this out before Christmas but I’m not sure. I can do it if nobody else can but will gladly hand over the reins if anyone would like to do it or
had already volunteered.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/01/2018 05:35

Thanks for the reassurance guys.someone in playground had said they've changed how they rate inspections and lots are now failing the mark.i still stand by my decision

I am awake.its freezing.pitch black and rain is slamming into the windows.i am still tired.i don't want it to be a school day.....

Afreshcuppateaplease · 23/01/2018 05:44

Morning

Brew zoo

Ofsted have recently changed a few things. Our school was recently marked down from good to requires improvement. Which tbh i agree with, new head is not good. A lot of points in the report i found relevent to my own dc. Theyll be reinspected again later this year.

Ds3 up just after 5. Yawn.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 23/01/2018 05:45

Oh and before recent changes 'requires improvement' was known as 'satisfactory' So thats one change they made

Callmecordelia · 23/01/2018 06:21

Hello everyone. Sorry to hear about the washing machine Stressy and that you are ill Cag.

I have been ill too, caught the children's bug. Some flying done, but not much. There's a can of pledge sitting on the windowsill looking at me reproachfully.

The one bit of exciting news is we have found someone who is willing to do our garden. It's got access issues and rotten decking, and normally landscape gardeners run a mile or won't quote, but someone down the road was having their garden done with similar issues, so I called the same company to take a look at ours. It's a lot of money, but we'd end up with 3.3 x 5m of a flat artificial grassed area and steps up to it from the house. As we're all very pale, and burn in five minutes I want to put a shade sail up. Hopefully then we'll have a bit of useable outside space. I'm so tired of taking the children to the park every time we want to go outside. I'd love to be able to say to DD to go and skip in the garden, but the steps are so wobbly and the decking is like an ice rink. It's a pain. I'd love to have somewhere shady to sit in the summer, where I can enjoy being outside without smothering myself in suncream. It could be done by Easter. I think it's worth it. What do you think?

Bowerbird5 · 23/01/2018 06:31

Bloody IPad i touched side and just lost it all I had it in preview because I thought it was bit long.aagh!

Chia tea anyone I have Teasmade back on. Had good sleep 3x toilet breaks but went back to sleep till 5:30 better than 3 yesterday. Then come on here and you're all swearing. Runs and hides under the bedclothes... The 'o ' word. We're waiting. Been waiting. Long overdue and was hoping they would come while I am off. I have stuff to do but couldn't because other staff off. Aaaaarrrrghhhh!

Bowerbird5 · 23/01/2018 06:44

Oh definitely.

Worth its weight in gold. Lovely to hear from you sorry you're also I'll lots of it about this winter.
Ds2 was going to get someone to do his and as DH hasn't lifted a finger and lost my shears ours looks a mess and I was thinking I might get someone to come give both a quote. I think I will ring today as I could meet them this week. If I go back I will do half days so not to exhaust myself. I have keys to sons so could go there. I told him if he gets this firm I found make sure they don't talk him into a pond. They seem to have made everyone a pond on their site. More expense!
Check out sails in schools stuff as they often have them also garden shows. I have seen them there. Probably still got my Tatton catalogue somewhere.🍀🌹🌻🌺🌻🌺🌺🌻🌺🌹🌼🌷🌷🌸🌸🌾🌾🌺🌸🌷🌴🌴 it will be lovely Callme you could pots around your deckchair and have a little area just for you.🌴🌴

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/01/2018 06:49

Morning all. Totally worth it Callme. We had similar issues (not quite so bad but garden was unsafe for very young children which mine were at the time) so got that done. Then we also burn within seconds (DD1 and me anyway) and so we got a canopy thing. It doesn’t cover the whole garden as we couldn’t afford that but has made a huge, huge difference. Inside is cooler too in the summer. So, so worth it.

Thanks very much for thread leading offer Cotswold. I like your thinking re. short month Grin.

Callmecordelia · 23/01/2018 06:52

That's what I was thinking, one of the ones used in schools that are designed to be left up from April to October, with a high uv protection factor. It's not a massive space, but DS will be two in March and it will be big enough to be able to put a water tray out and have picnic lunches.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 23/01/2018 06:54

Once the weather is better i want to make a start on our garden. Its not at all child friendly and so the dc just arent allowed out. Im going to try and not get someone in though because there is still a lot needs doing inside the house and i feel that needs to be priority e.g. we NEED the second bathroom to not be an empty room

Oh and washed up breakfast things, wiped dining table!!

Squirrelpatrol2174 · 23/01/2018 07:33

You lot don't half get up early Shock I best go and wake up my lil man. I don't get massive amounts done in the morning what with getting the boy up, dressed fed. I then go into work for ten. I just sort of make sure the kitchen sink is clear of breakfast dishes, etc.

Bowerbird5 · 23/01/2018 07:39

I'm awake. I'm not up!

FoolandFitz · 23/01/2018 07:53

Morning all

zoo have you seen the ofsted report? Many times requires improvement is mostly about management of the school rather than the actual teaching (data of progress not robust, behaviour, safeguarding etc) and if it is around poor teaching (or not enough progress as if children progress at a steady rate ) across the school it's still to do with the management. As long as you are happy with lil zoo's progress and she is kept safe then stuff ofsted.

Last night's ta-da
Walked to shops and got lunch bits and pieces
Cooked dinner (chicken wings for DS and salmon pilaf for us)
Did a wash
Cooked soup for lunch
Cleared chairdrobe in bedroom and put away hairdryer etc off chest of drawers
Cleaned snack stuff before bed

Waves to everyone.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/01/2018 08:41

I was going to say that the whole situation with ofsted is like the yes minister sketch. They have to justify their existence somehow and if the schools are doing well how can they do that. Hence the moving of boundaries. I never could decide if the yes minister sketch was funny or just depressing because although it is old it is still relevant.

Some on the thread have early risers, some of us do not and are night owls but there is no point posting late at night as you end up talking to yourself.

Wake early but I don't want to do anything today. Which is a pity as it is a long work day. I have gotta get off my ass and change my job. but it is always easier to stay put than the effort needed to make change so it is hard to find motivation when motivation has been awol for a while.

It will be another everyone fed no one dead kinda day yep starting the day with high hopes for it BlushHmm

Cagliostro · 23/01/2018 08:41

Cordelia definitely go for it, having no garden was rubbish when the Caglets were young and I'm really glad when we move we will have one, however small, for the baby to grow into.

She went 6.5hrs again! Next task I suppose is to try and shift that backwards so I can sleep before midnight.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/01/2018 08:42

Also this thread is going to be full by the time I get back so someone is going to need to set up a new on for the rest of the month. Been a chatty on and a while since we needed multiple threads for a month
