Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

January’s habit is shining your sink.

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Tadas
Wash on
Recycling out
Fed n watered cat/kits/zoolets
Pack ups done
School run
Wash in drier
Straight out to head into town for CBT
(Task of week continue self care and start thinking about your needs/putting yourself first couldnt I have an easier option )

More wash on,go grab something to eat and crack on!!

Cagliostro · 22/01/2018 12:56

Ugh PAYG electric/gas meters are horrible, I hear they are more expensive per unit so even harder to afford 😡😡

Bower I’m not that bad 😉😘 all that stuff was what I could do in bed or delegate to others. I am up now as I need lunch.

Writing task went surprisingly well - I thought DS would complain but he happily got on with it and even talked about making up a story. I know I keep labouring the point but I can’t believe the change in them. Going to try and fit in one more home ed thing this afternoon as well as house stuff. But all fairly gentle as I do feel a bit wobbly.

foxessocks · 22/01/2018 13:24

I have 30 mins to try and do this before I go get lil zoo from school....

Cagliostro · 22/01/2018 15:15

ta da continued
✅another wash on (other stuff waiting in dryer as it fits two loads! I love our dryer)
✅paid tap and ballet invoices 💸💸💸
✅filled in bus pass form finally, this has been a costly exercise in procrastination
✅workbook with Caglets (comprehension - I think once we finish this book I’ll find separate ones for them as DD was doing much better than I thought she would)
✅made myself a decent lunch and left some for DH after work

Need to leave in about an hour as I can go to the post office to send the form before taekwondo starts

foxessocks · 22/01/2018 15:29

Ta da
All my list except mirrors
Have asked around if anyone wants old towels that I've been shoving in my wardrobe and asked my mum if she wants some bath toys at her house for when she has any of her grandchildren round!

So not much actual decluttering done but it's a start I suppose.

Now I need to polish mirrors but dd and ds all snuggled up to me and it's hard to move! Also tripped over an extension lead just now and feeling a bit bruised. Honestly my eyesight is appalling!

Wing flaps to you all. Good lists by everyone today!

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 15:47

I was secretly impressed that you did it all in bed Cags
You have a brilliant TA Da list. I don't know if you have realised but you do seem to be more productive when you have allowed yourself a rest on Sunday's. I have found this myself. When the children were home I didn't have that opportunity it was football, football, football. DD was carted about the countryside from field to field picking up and dropping off.
I'm pleased with what I have got done today. The bedroom boxes have really pleased me. My shoes have all gone into one box with best shoes in clear boxes in the wardrobe. One box of jumpers which I had forgotten about. I have a box to sort of children's clothes I hadn't been able to part with. I am wondering if that is just silly and I need to do it.
De- cluttered the little sewing table. It is ok inside which was a surprise.
Just got one box in boudoir to do ...tomorrow. I want to do bedding box. On to making soup.
Everyone seems to be having a productive day...do you think we're all starting to get the hang of this Grin
But- zoo - 30 mins!!
Tea and
🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰🍰
Waiting for you all.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/01/2018 15:53

Manage complete tasks in 35 mins which ment a slight jog to get lil zoo

Cagliostro · 22/01/2018 15:59

I think you’re right Bower if I am kinder to myself I find it easier to get things done. I have still barely moved today but I’ve managed to do the odd thing anyway and also I’m definitely getting better at doing things in small snatched moments - like putting a wash on while lunch was cooking etc. There’s a lot to be said for being positive as well, I am no longer annoyed that I have had 7 months unnecessarily paying for bus fares, instead I am very pleased I have filled in the form! There are lots of other things I need to get done along those lines, so I’m pleased to have made a start.

Nice easy pizza for dinner tonight, there is also a cheesecake defrosting... I realised I don’t need to leave early because I can go to the post office during the lesson instead. I should probably get dressed though. It involves moving the baby off me. Booo.

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 16:38

Boo!
Yeah, it was just an observation. I remember last week. I think we are all getting a bit better at not procrastinating. I have just got my speed awareness form out 😚 35 mph in a 30 which used to be a 40 mph as I was taking DD for an interview. Thing is I wanted to go the other way but she kept insisting. That was the day I did three and a half hours ironing for her hmm! Should have been more careful but I was asking her questions and there they were over the hump. Big yellow van.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/01/2018 19:06

Squirrelpatrol2174 · 22/01/2018 19:24

I've been watching this thread and reading your chit chat whilst ticking off the chores for a few days so I'm going to join if that is OK? I'm a mum of one 5 year old boy and I work 5 days a week in a small cafe in our town. I find housework taxing when I get home not least because as part of the job me and the other lady have to clean up at the end of the day so I always tend to feel cleaned out before coming home and doing my own housework.

I'm currently overseeing bath time with my boy and he'll be going bed in the next ten mins. I need to wash the dishes, wipe down the kitchen, tidy the living room and do some ironing. Urgh Confused

foxessocks · 22/01/2018 19:28

That is good zoo well done to your dd!

Big ta da here...dh has moved all the cables or t.v. and we have moved all the living room round ready for the piano!! Just got to do the porch door then we can get it delivered. I'm so pleased!

Hi zoo Smile I'll leave any drama/stupid customers at my work Grin

OK ds is out of bath, all dried, tucked in bed, cuddled, and bedtime storied. I got ten mins to wash up and wipe kitchen before eastenders. Best get off here and get on with it. Eeek 7 minutes now.

Cagliostro · 22/01/2018 19:57

Oh no stressy :(

Welcome squirrel!

Lots I should be getting on with as Cagletini is still asleep in the buggy after taekwondo (she had a feed while there) but instead I am lounging on the sofa having eaten pizza and watching zootropolis. Hmm.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 22/01/2018 20:09

Welcome squirrel we dont mind if you moan about the customers! We quite like a moan.

Sorry to hear about the washing machine stressy I near on have a heart attack when something like that breaks here

Bowerbird5 · 22/01/2018 20:11

Welcome squirrel. 😃

zoo that's a good mark. Love frittata.

Foxes yeah great TaDa soon be 🎼🎶🎹 in your house😄 wish I had room for one to. DD can play keyboard her boyfriend is really good. His mum plays and teaches.

Three part plan is good.
I have completed all three. 😀Ta Das today
So half boudoir done and only Monday. Tomorrow bedding chest and change sheets DH can help me do that so I don't exert myself. Need to put a few clothes away too.Early night for me been awake since 3:30

AM!😎

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/01/2018 20:54

toostressy hope you can sort it.like afresh all hell breaks loose my washer strikes.i was unlucky enough 3 or 4 years back to have washer, drier and oven all go with in couple weeks."luckily" was Jan so got sale deals but I wept but not as hard as DP credit card did

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/01/2018 20:58

Forgot me ta da again....
I am fed and watered
Washed up
Wiped table
Zoolets packed bags for morning, lil zoo left gym kit by door(her old school kept it there all term.here it has come home as anything left behind by a Friday is moved to lost property)
We found out today the Ofsted inspection(which occured as we view this school she's now attending) has graded it inadequate.in sept local authority wants it an academy, head leaves august.i still have no regrets as she is happy, has lots friends and enjoys school way more and I can see her confidence growing and the difference in her timid behaviour is improving by the day.theres a meet at school next week but I have no childcare so can't attend to see what's going to happen....

Squirrelpatrol2174 · 22/01/2018 21:30

Oh no stressy @ the broken washing machine. These machines I swear have a tendency to breakdown in January when funds are low.

I have done,

Quick clean of bathroom
Washed dishes
Wiped kitchen surfaces
Tidied the living room
Done some ironing (still got a pile but that can wait for tomorrow).

I won't be long off to bed I don't think.

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/01/2018 22:11

All fed, no dead. Although sanity might b e leaving the building
night

WhispersOfWickedness · 22/01/2018 22:16

Welcome squirrel 😊

Some amazing ta da lists here, well done!

Zoo - try not to worry too much about the ofsted. It does NOT mean that the school is 'bad'. My DH works in senior management at a school which has an inadequate rating, I cannot tell you the amount of passion and hard work the staff put into every aspect of the school and still can't pull themselves out of the rut due to the results. There is a very high proportion of disadvantaged children, along with a similarly high proportion of SEN and who come into the school from primary school with low levels of attainment and it makes me really cross that this is how the school is judged 😠

So, ta das for Monday (virtually none are housework related 🙈)
DC unloaded the dishwasher 😳
Two loads of washing washed and dried
School run
PTA meeting (I'm the secretary)
Work
Pick DC up, take home for antibiotics for DD
Rush to dance/drama
Back to work
Pick up DC, home for dinner and DC bed
Type up pta minutes plus related letter (this only happened because my own tap class got cancelled)
Lie on sofa in a heap 😅

At least that's Monday over for another week 😁

In an attempt to force myself to clean up a bit, I've invited a friend round to visit on Thursday morning... I like to make life difficult for myself 😂🙈 At least that will force me to clean the bathroom, although all bedroom doors will be very firmly closed 😂
