Hello all and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome to the January Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! Typically there are a lot of new members in January so I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Old members, as you know there have been a few issues with links at times so if there is some chopping and changing over the month with the links then that is why. Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

I’m sure lots of you have New Years Resolutions to be organised and to declutter, as I do every year Grin. Be kind to yourselves and careful not to crash and burn!

I am risking making two:-
Go to bed at 11pm unless decent reason why not.
Spend less time on my phone.

Here are the links for Monday 1st Jan. although I am linking these then if you are treating today as a holiday (as much as is possible in real life anyway!) then feel free to take today off.

*
Here is the daily summary for Monday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I’m afraid I start the year confused Blush. I’ve just looked on the Flylady website and the link to the zone and missions is here which indicates we will be in zone 5 which is the living room. I would have thought the month starts in zone 1 but I know this has happened before, I think SC explained? TBH after Xmas I think most living rooms could use a bit of work so it won’t hurt Smile. Apologies if this is confusing.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

January’s habit is shining your sink.

Happy flying everyone.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! And welcome to fellow newbies!

zoo I was a bit confused re sweaty - thought you were attempting to be less active in order to wear clothes more times and cut down on laundry! (Wonders to self if that could be a good idea...)

Laundry is a problem in this house. Toddler is messy, of course, and new baby is a sicky one so necessitates lots of outfit changes for himself and anyone who happens to be standing in the firing line plus cot sheets and many, many muslins...

So far I’ve tackled most of the paperwork pile and stripped two beds. Haven’t made them up again yet as pinned under a sleeping DS who’s been a bit grumpy today so I don’t want to risk waking him by putting him down elsewhere!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2018 12:04

FoolandFitz · 01/01/2018 13:41

I did 2 washes today still - does that mean I've washed double my luck away? Wink

Ta-da:
wash folded away and in cupboard, 2 washes drying on clothes horses
pancakes made, eaten and washing up done
bacon butties for DP and DS
Christmas tree and decorations put away

To-do
Shower
Clean bathroom
Go for a walk
Dinner

We are all in education (either attending like DS or working in like DP and myself) so still in holiday mode till a week today. Last term killed us off (7 week and 8 week half terms) and we are still recovering. Lots of hunkering down.

My goal for this year:
To wash up every night before bed - we are terrible at having an evening snack and leaving the washing up.

BendoverK · 01/01/2018 13:50

Cagliostro · 01/01/2018 14:28

Hi all! Not much achieved here today, need to somehow move sleeping Cagletini off my lap and put second wash on. As I didn’t do any yesterday and I can add in her newborn size coat/snowsuits ready to store.

Need to sort the living room, we have more visitors (2 lots!) on Wednesday and I’d like the tree down really, although priority is the clutter. But when the tree is down we will be able to have the pram there (before Christmas it was a little bookcase but that is now comfortably in the Caglets’ room, and actually it was a great move as they are reading more! DS is currently reading out facts about the periodic table as they’re playing boarding schools :o he hates reading aloud normally). It means wheeling the buggy through the doorway which will be a bit awkward but otherwise it goes in the hallway and it’s annoying as it gets in the way through to the kitchen and means we have nowhere to leave our shoes so it’s all a big mess.

Theonlyoneiknow · 01/01/2018 14:30

This sounds v.interesting. Place marking so I can come back and digest what it is all about!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2018 14:49

foxes superstition says wash away luck if do laundry so the slattern in me nods safely and does extra loads eve n 2 Nd janGrin

Cag the cagletini sound great fun.i love to hear the way they play.bless him.boys are bit more reluctant(ime)but once get going with reading boom!!D's reading prolifically.lives a good fiction but for a while was facts all the way.my knowledge of insects and weird facts can be both intimidatingly impressive and worryingly anal😂😂😂😂😂
I strip last of the 3D snowflakes we made down n into paper recycling that went out today.dd2 was sad strip her newspaper chains from her room but it has to be down by Fri and at least this aay it's straight out for binmen.not lurking around waiting for recycling day!!(she don't want accept Xmas is over!!)
I need sort my hallway properly.as it stands there's a huge cardboard box everyone's ment lob shoes n bags in and 4 coat hooks on wall.as dd2 possesses a blazer.a leather jacket(handed down by dd1 I add).a waterproof winter coat and a parka you can see we need more pegs.but what to do with bags n shoes?it's a narrow space and a shoe cupboard we had when we moved in was in the way of getting up the stairs easily...

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/01/2018 15:21

I’ve just read about the “no laundry on NYD” thing on another thread having never heard of it before. Shortly afterwards DH started gathering up laundry and putting it in the machine. I didn’t stop him.

Afreshnewyearplease · 01/01/2018 15:24

zoo we have 8 pegs and still not enough also have a bench with storage underneath but again could use more. May invest in more hall storage when we no longer have a pram as that currently lives out there. I need gut our hall its packed. Meant be rule of a bag, 1 pair shoes, a coat and a jacket each but gradually everything ends up there

MercuryRising · 01/01/2018 15:38

Hmmmm.... I am lacking motivation. I have switched on the laptop and done some planning while dp and ds2 napped and washed up umpteen times but I can't be bothered to do much more.

It is lovely to see so many newbies. Big wing flaps to you all.

Cagliostro · 01/01/2018 15:53

Our hallway is a nightmare, it’s so tiny. I couldn’t fit any storage in there anyway but even if I could I am just holding out until we move and hopefully have more space or maybe even a porch #livingthedream

We have child and adult coat hooks and then the cupboard under the stairs (the stairs are actually in the living room but the cupboard is opposite front door, it’s weird) has a shoe rack on the inside of the door, but generally we end up with shoes all over the floor and then you can’t open the door anyway. Even worse with the pram in the way. The other day I was wondering why the pram sounded funny and then discovered a shoe caught in the chassis 😳😂 thankfully we were close to home still! Anyway hoping that once the buggy can go in the living room I can get strict about ALL shoes going in the cupboard. We did try just having one pair out each but then that made it awkward to open the door to get and put away other shoes. And DH’s sports club stuff twice a week too (he will be teaching again soon). So we will have to be strict.

Cagliostro · 01/01/2018 16:08

I got bored so here’s a MN style diagram of my hallway 😂
