Who's up for a summer holiday house sort out?

Snap8TheCat · 20/07/2017 13:34

As usual my house needs a good declutter and clean Grin

I am a childminder by day and so will be out and about a fair bit but can also fit in some house chores whilst they are nicely amused and encourage them to help me with things like sorting the playrooms out.

The summer holidays and starting the new school year off with a fresh start seems like a good idea.

Would anyone like to join me?

Not going to manage anything for a few days as going to my mum's. But the storage boxes I ordered are ready to start sorting and packing stuff when we return!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 12:43

Only DD1 at home with me today so we are packing for our holiday while sorting through the wardrobe still (which is full of too-big clothes stored for DDs). So far have got a bag for charity shop and a bag of clothes which DD1 likes in the wash. Also found my slippers which have been lost for some time!

OutcastTraveller · 27/07/2017 13:04

Looking forward to getting these activities done because I'm the worst at starting in one corner and being distracted by something else...Blush
A little motivation and direction needed Grin

Idiotathome · 27/07/2017 15:04

Sorted ds's wardrobe today - 3 charity bags filled and 2 black bags for the skip. More importantly lots of free space now and he can actually see what he's got! Had Lego sets in there he forgot about and haven't been touched for example along with 3 pairs of unworn school trousers that are now too small.

IdentifiesAsASloth · 27/07/2017 15:09

Wish I'd seen this sooner!
I've been doing this bit by bit over the last fortnight and have so far sorted out the crap draw in the kitchen, under the stairs storage, my big wardrobe and storage under the bed.
I still need to go through baby things under the bed. Also need to sort out stuff under the bed in the spare room and all the draws in the living room, and the cupboard we have in bedroom.

Feels good to be halfway through though!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 16:37

Did the bottom of our wardrobe today. It used to be a disaster area and is now really not too bad at all Smile.

Been really productive today: sorted and deep cleaned dc2's bedroom, made a few appointments for later in the hols, tidied up the garage, went to the tip.
Tomorrow I will tackle the kitchen - including defrosting the freezer and cleaning the fridge.

Notinyournelly · 27/07/2017 18:49

Your all doing great. Well done.
My house is messier than this morning so no progress here. I did try to start a few things but the kids just didn't let it happen.
When the kids are in bed if I can stay awake I'll clean the kitchen and hang some washing, but that's just regular housework.

Be back later to report on the progress.

Also need to get passport photos taken and de-nit dd (hazard of being a cm, a little delight one of our mindees has given us this week.

It will great to get the playroom done snap much easier to keep it nice. Mime are playing with more interest since I got rid of the stuff they have outgrown and categorised everything into sets. So all of the duplo is back together again and I cleaned the trofasf with milton.

At my fridge today and thinking of going to Iceland to restock - might buy some dressing up toys as they have an interest in this now.

wobblywonderwoman · 28/07/2017 12:31

Can you Facebook sell the school trousers to recoup some cost idado ?

Acopyofacopy · 28/07/2017 13:08

I have deep cleaned the kitchen and defrosted the freezer. Quite annoyingly it just looks the same as always Sad
All that is left in there is the fridge, but I need a break first!

itshappenedagain · 28/07/2017 15:45

I e had a productive Friday.
Bought units for the kitchen, picked up my paint and wallpaper
Booked in a joiner, plasterer, and painter to complete the work in the kitchen and my bedroom.
2 tip runs
4 trips to the charity shop
My house is starting to look a bit nicer!
Just to empty all the kitchen cupboards and take apart the old kitchen next week...thus creating loads of mess! Confused

Tilapia · 28/07/2017 15:48

Place marking for after I get back from holiday

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/07/2017 17:25

I've had a very productive day today. I started by wanting to clear the work surfaces in the kitchen so dd could do some baking.
So I cleared the surfaces, then dd had wandered off and was busy playing, so I carried on.
I've sorted and cleaned half of the kitchen, including 3 cupboards full of groceries and Tupperware (emptied, cleaned, decluttered!), The baking cupboard, the pan cupboard, cutlery drawer, the sink is now sparkling, the window and door have been cleaned so we can see out of them now

I got rid of 2 sacks of stuff to the tip, and I've still got the other half of the kitchen to do! Oh and I've got a full carrier bag of plastic takeaway tubs to go to school for the food technology department Blush.

Tomorrow I need to do normal housework in the morning, hoovering etc as dd's friend is coming to our house before I take them to pack holiday. And I need to clean out the Guinea pigs.

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/07/2017 17:26

We still haven't done any baking either, as dd lost interest completely.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 28/07/2017 21:12

People are doing so well! Took 2 bags to charity shop from yesterday's wardrobe sort out and cleaned the house today. We are off on holiday tomorrow but I am inspired to start again when we get back.

Snap8TheCat · 29/07/2017 12:13

How are you all getting on today?

I need a firework up my bum- I've done nothing Sad

itshappenedagain · 29/07/2017 12:50

I've woke up early and decided to rip out my kitchen. I had bought new units so decided I would put them in. I've just finished putting the doors in, but have to wait for the new worktops to arrive, and the plumber to Replumb mum the sink in.
I'm planning on getting my bedroom sorted this afternoon...god bless the school holidays!

spiderbabymum · 29/07/2017 17:21

Sounds like we could fill an Entire Charity shop

Well we got well stuck in today with catching up on some steps of the cure from apartment therapy

Today we set up our outbox which is all the space under the stairs and in under an hour the space is half filled with stuff to go

I got hubbie and kids involved by explaining we gonna do this January cure thing together

And we each have to find six things to get rid of . So we all put six things in the outbox ! Feel it's gotten them a bit interested and I'm going to continue to get them to choose one thing daily to Go

So all that's left this weekend is
Buy flowers
And clean all the floors in the whole house
Sigh

Gotta stick with it this time

Is anyone else joining me on the January cure ?

Does anyone else want to try the one item a day challenge for a month ?

user1484615313 · 30/07/2017 00:00

i will join you Grin

MamOfTwo · 30/07/2017 10:32

Joining! Although definitely on board with Snap8's approach rather than the prescriptive routines, which I can never keep up with. Would it be an idea to start a separate January cure thread?

spiderbabymum · 30/07/2017 11:32

Ok

Snap8TheCat · 30/07/2017 14:24

I'm not bothered if people want to use different methods. Just moral support for any decluttering that's going on.

I've tackled paperwork today. Not finished but very pleased with how far I've got so far. It's everywhere and though I have a good filing system in place, I'm too lazy to use it. I pledge to do better in future.

How is everyone else getting on?
