Who's up for a summer holiday house sort out?

Snap8TheCat · 20/07/2017 13:34

As usual my house needs a good declutter and clean Grin

I am a childminder by day and so will be out and about a fair bit but can also fit in some house chores whilst they are nicely amused and encourage them to help me with things like sorting the playrooms out.

The summer holidays and starting the new school year off with a fresh start seems like a good idea.

Would anyone like to join me?

Smile

Great you two . !!!

I might actually get the ahem January cure completed this time

drinkswineoutofamug · 21/07/2017 21:51

I've just cleared out, so I will cheer you along!
I sent 5 boxes and 4 bin bags of stuff to charity. 2 more bags of clothes went today by curb side pick up.
In the kitchen I emptied my cupboards , did I need a bread tin? 6 cupcake tray? Odd plates, bowls, chipped mugs?
Cupboard under the stairs , coats , trainers, a wine making kit, a wii still in its box!
I've cleared all my clothes and now have half empty drawers. Why was I keep a pair of pants that are 2 sizes too small? Books, got rid of about 20. DVDs , the films are all on line, Netflix etc . There's another empty draw.
CDs all on my iTunes. Yet again an empty draw.
Been sneaking stuff out of the shed ever Black bin day.
I packed stuff up like ornaments I got for my 21st and they are in the loft .
You have to be brutal. Do you need it? When was the last time you used it?
It feels so much better to see room , just don't be tempted to buy more crap to replace it!

Bananacustardyum · 21/07/2017 22:02

I'm in. Since my DD2.5 came along I seem to have piles of stuff everywhere. I would love to manage to clear some space.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2017 22:18

Oh wow drinks. Any other tips?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 21/07/2017 22:26

Ok, I'll give this January cure thing a try. How long does it take, roughly? Bearing in mind that my house is a fairly average 3 bed with a family of 4 all happily cluttering the place up. We're quite bad for hoarding really Blush

NotLachsAgainMother · 21/07/2017 22:28

I'm definitely up for it, it's been on the agenda for ages, but can't start for another week (work overload). DH and I are planning a major cleanup and sort out.

spiderbabymum · 21/07/2017 22:31

It takes under an hour a day Monday to Friday

You can do more if u like

But only After u have done the daily assignment

Your whole house will not be done by the end of the four week

But you will Learn new skills
And somehow be spurred on to

spiderbabymum · 21/07/2017 22:32

......... to Enjoy ur home
And do more

One of the key things : is
DONT TRY to do it all at once

MsAwesomeDragon · 21/07/2017 22:36

BUT I know I won't do it in term time, not really through lack of motivation, just through lack of time. So I want to get as much done as possible during this 6 weeks, before I go back to work and spend all my time either working or ferrying DC's around to activities. I'll give it a go, but I suspect I'll do 2 days assignments each day so I can get more done in the time I have available.

drinkswineoutofamug · 21/07/2017 22:37

Went through the airing cupboard. Bed sheets. I have new mattresses and had to get new sheets. So why did I still have the old sheets that didn't fit?
Go through your drawers , junk mail, empty envelopes...., I was amazed at the stuff I had.
In the bathroom I poured all the shampoos in to one bottle, same with the conditioner.
Go through your food cupboard . Those cook books, remember it's all on line , do you need it?
Do you need to keep every work of art your child did from nursery to leaving high school? I was harsh, kept the best bits, binned the rest. I kept school reports. Found my school stuff. Bin. Paperwork, go through it. If it's over 5 years old, do you need it?
My hardest part is trying to smuggle stuff out of the house that my OH thinks is useful . I have a sink in my loft Hmm
Do one room at a time. And give it a good clean too. It feels good

spiderbabymum · 21/07/2017 22:38

All sounds good to me

spiderbabymum · 21/07/2017 22:42

THE weekend chores are a lot bigger and could take hours and hours

In each of the three weekends you tackle one room

E.g. Kitchen one weekend then bedroom the next and so on

You could easily use the January cure at your framework

But I would advised do try to stick to the Pace of the cure if you are working outside the home for example or are busy during the weekdays

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2017 22:43

Thanks drinks.

I was going to go to bed but you lot have insprired me to do some decluttering in front of the telly for a bit first Smile.

MsAwesomeDragon · 21/07/2017 22:46

Right, so I'll flip it and do the weekend chores during the week, since I don't work in the school holidays (I'm a teacher, so I might do some planning etc, but won't have to leave the house for that). That would then leave weekends for family days out. I do think I'd feel odd not doing much to the house while I'm in it, but equally I don't want to spend my entire holiday cleaning and decluttering.

drinkswineoutofamug · 21/07/2017 22:47

It's taken weeks to get to where I am now. That's only because I've spent since march , decorating my house. So I have gone room by room . Still got my bedroom to go properly

NoSquirrels · 21/07/2017 22:50

I'm in. Sick of never quite getting round to sorting things "properly" and there's no excuse. Come September, I want a "homework" drawer/spot where supplies such as scissors, pencils and sharpeners and erasers are all religiously kept and put back each time. No more excavating the piles for the last known sighting of the Lesser Spotted Un-dried-up Glue Stick...

I think the Cure is great, but I'm going to follow if I can but otherwise concentrate on updating a list of Shit I Need To Sort. I'll post my list... tomorrow Grin

spiderbabymum · 21/07/2017 22:52

You could easily get through all doing half an hour to an hour four to five days s week , have one day off and 1-2 days doing full on decluttering

Afreshstartplease · 22/07/2017 06:41

I'll join!

Moved house in the last week so everywhere is a full on tip

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 22/07/2017 06:55

I'm in! Lime others on here I'm a term time only worker, I tend to save up Ll the jobs for the holidays and the house just gets worse and worse...we moved a year ago, there's boxes in the loft never opened and rooms half finished. We are having a party in 2 weeks for my birthday, so will concentrate on getting downstairs decluttered and finishing decorating the kitchen. Have 2 DC, 2 and 7..they bicker and xnnoy each other but can play nicely so hoping I get some time during the day to get stuff done. I started konmarie last year but only got to clothes and books. Whilst decluttering by category is better I feel, it's tricky with children as you have to invest time to get each category done, by getting everything out and then dotting through it. I might try it again with done tho he like clothes toys and books though, as it is effective.
I just find it overwhelming though, all the stuff...much easier just to say sod it lets go out..

Snap8TheCat · 22/07/2017 07:41

Oh right- I didn't realise this would become a 'January Cure' thread.

Have fun guys.

I really need to decide clutter and have spent the last couple of days trying to start, still a very long way to go though.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/07/2017 07:53

Snap, I am open to all decluttering ideas - my problem is just finding the time to do them so happy to try various things Smile.

sandgrown · 22/07/2017 07:53

I'm in!

tickyandtackyandjackythebacky · 22/07/2017 07:57

Oh I'm in. I even have a skip at the moment for that very purpose . I fear it isn't big enoughConfused

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/07/2017 08:01

Snap what were you thinking when you started the thread? I'm happy to just do stuff till it's done, which seemed to be what you were wanting to do in your OP. I don't think everyone has to do the same method/system, we could all do our own thing.
