Who's up for a summer holiday house sort out?

Snap8TheCat · 20/07/2017 13:34

As usual my house needs a good declutter and clean Grin

I am a childminder by day and so will be out and about a fair bit but can also fit in some house chores whilst they are nicely amused and encourage them to help me with things like sorting the playrooms out.

The summer holidays and starting the new school year off with a fresh start seems like a good idea.

Would anyone like to join me?

Smile

OMG stressful. Trying to tidy the girls room but they are here aged 5/6. Aaaggghhh.
I'm hiding in the loo to calm down. And having three conversation through the door. One has just reported that another is blutac ing my bank cards to a wall.
There is no hope 😟😄

Notinyournelly · 24/07/2017 09:53

Plus I'm trying to limit my sons time on his tablet so he doesn't spend 12 hours a day on it but I already want to unblock it, he's asked if he does some tidying in his room can he have some more tablet time. I said yes enthusiastically but it's not going well.
I've promised them that they can invite one friend each once the house is tidy and they want to but I can't see us getting it done. The girls room is inside down and the hallway is completely full up again lol.

Cagliostro · 24/07/2017 10:19

I totally empathise! It's hard work when they are around

crashandburnt · 24/07/2017 10:50

I'm in too. 4 kids too many toys. Husband cooked yesterday - I have been all morning cleaning the kitchen!!

cikecaka · 24/07/2017 11:41

Morning! Did absolutely nothing yesterday, was going to come on and lie but never moved from the bed

I am up now and my DD aged 10 has cooked pancakes, batter has managed to get everywhere, so have thrown her out of the kitchen, til I clear stuff and then she can come back in to rewash the dishes

cikecaka · 24/07/2017 13:13

Kitchen back to somewhat normal. DH home for lunch, so will redo counters, vacuum floor and wash floor.
Waiting on a wash to finish, then will put table cloth and dish cloths in wash.

Been to Poundland and bought some boxes for the girls room.
I have two ikea stuva units I want to move upstairs but that might be too hard. My sole mission is to have the girls room finished. Take away for dinner 😀

I've managed to do lots today, although the house doesn't look very different at all!

I sorted the shoes, and got rid of a bag full of shoes that don't fit our aren't worn.
I sorted the coats and got rid of a black sack full of coats that don't fit, aren't worn, or are broken.
I emptied the cupboard under the stairs, the was stuff in there I don't remember seeing ever before.
I got rid of a black sack of stuff from the "dumping box" near the front door.
I've done the first tip run of the holidays, a full car load.
I've also done 2 loads of washing and run the dishwasher.
Then I took dd2 out for a picnic and a walk for the afternoon. I think that's the way to go for me, work for the morning then go out and have fun in the afternoon. Otherwise I'll resent doing all this decluttering in my holidays rather than enjoying myself.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 18:08

Gone through a few of their little trinket boxes (mostly free with comics). Struggling to throw them out in case they come in useful for storing things Blush.

Must do more tonight!

Snap8TheCat · 24/07/2017 18:58

Lots of busy bees today.

I've had 4 mindees today plus my 3 and DH under foot. However as soon as the last mindee went home I dashed upstairs with the boys and we whizzed through their clothes. Only took half hour. One large black bag filled for the charity shop.

So my list now looks like this:

Boys' clothes ✔️
Dd's clothes
Kitchen drawers
Playroom toys
Dd's toys
Boys' toys
My clothes
DH's clothes
Paperwork
Work drawers
Towels
Bedding
Photographs
Coats and shoes
Wires and electrical
Toiletries
Kitchen cupboards
Tv cabinet drawers
Emails
Memory boxes
Under stair cupboard
Under our bed
Utility
Built in cupboard in our room

I didn't finish their room but made good progress 😄. I need to do regular housework tomorrow downstairs got trashed while I was upstairs lol.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 22:20

That's great nelly. Very impressed it only took you half an hour to go through clothes with kids in tow Snap!

I did get rid of a few bits today but tonight's task is to go though a load of Tupperware storage type containers!!! We have loads, all slightly too small to be useful for storage and too big to be useful for food. Really should let at least some of them go.

sandgrown · 25/07/2017 07:00

Well finally got rid of some of the crap in my dining room. Lots of books but I was unable to find a book recycling bin so will have to take them to the one at the tip. I hate throwing books away. I decided to move the furniture round to create a different look then realised I would have to paint the wall behind the sofa . Ended up painting the whole room! There is a lovely house for sale across the road that I really want but could never afford so trying to fall in love with my own house again!

banananugget · 25/07/2017 07:02

I'd like to join please. I'm nearly 6 weeks out from surgery so having to be careful as I'm still building myself back up. My plan is to spend 5 minutes clearing up downstairs and then try and tackle one drawer/box upstairs per day. Obviously this will depend how I feel and I will increase this as I'm able to.

My first aim upstairs is to sort through my clothes. When exdp moved out my clothes spread into his old drawers too and now I have no space for any of the clothes I actually wear! Need a massive sort out because I don't wear most of them. There are 9 drawers in total! Will do the first one today and report back later.

Snap8TheCat · 25/07/2017 07:14

Hi to all the newbies and welcome!

toostressy I should probably add that my boys are 13 and 11 so hugely helpful and actually quite domesticated compared to their contemporaries. They got stuck in and helped me whizz through what didn't fit and why they no longer liked.

We also used the konmarie method 'power of the pile' and tipped every item of clothing on to my bed to sort.

That makes me feel better Snap Grin. My girls are 4 and 6.

Snap8TheCat · 25/07/2017 07:35

I also have a 6 year old DD and she is going to help me do her clothes tonight when I finish work. We'll see how long she takes!

Can I join in. House is just full of stuff everywhere. Teacher so during term time everything gets ignored but now need to throw it all away. DH wants me to start in home office as this is the room he uses most but I want to go through kitchen cupboards and sort out/clean. Maybe try to do a mix of both. I have decided to ditch large majority of my old teaching recourses as I never use them and the odd gem is hidden within lots of junk. They currently take up a large bookcase all in folders so making lots of space as I go!

Afreshstartplease · 25/07/2017 07:57

Okay so I said I was gonna do this and then life got it the way!

Small areas off new house are beginning to look less like a squat though!

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/07/2017 10:28

My hallway is looking significantly better. I now have a set of shelves instead of the "dumping box", so there's space for bags we use regularly, school bags, etc but no space to just dump crap there that should be put away properly. We do need more hooks for coats though as the ones we've got are just too close together.

I'm also going to buy a bigger shoe rack so all the shoes fit on it properly. Dd2 in particular has quite a lot of shoes, what with school shoes, trainers, heelies, party shoes, wellies, sandals. And yet she wears them all regularly so I don't want to throw them out, we just need storage so they can be stored neatly

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 10:52

Awesome, yes my girls have lots of shoes, all worn regularly. We have a fair bit of shoe storage actually which is not perfect but has solved the problem. Dance shoes and slippers live upstairs but all other shoes (theoretically) have a place.

Have done another couple of drawers in DD1's room. We really tidied it in the Easter holidays so her room is relatively easy to get sorted again now. It just needs better storage one day and regular going through otherwise she keeps everything. Also got rid of some old clothes at the back of the wardrobe which is a disaster zone. Of course while I was doing that the rest of the house was neglected Confused.

Afreshstartplease · 25/07/2017 11:03

I try to encourage one pair of shoes plus slippers and wellies allowed downstairs at a time. We are a family of 5 (plus baby) so if everyone's shoes were all downstairs it would be dire

mnistooaddictive · 25/07/2017 16:15

I've cleaned out a kitchen cupboard which was overflowing. Now I've got rid of the out of date food, it all fits quite nicely!

Cagliostro · 25/07/2017 17:04

Aaaaand I have a bad throat. Really hurts and not up to much now (I have underlying illnesses so even a cold makes me pretty unwell). Haven't achieved anything myself but managed to supervise the DCs tidying a bit.

Got a letter from autism clinic and they're doing a follow up visit for DS... at our house! So all the more reason to tidy up. I just look round the living room though and can't see what we can do - it still just feels like moving stuff around.

Giraffeski · 25/07/2017 17:58

Well my sorting of kitchen cupboards had to stop yesterday as our buyer pulled out at the eleventh hour so I have had to run about making house perfect for viewings again AngrySad
