Who's up for a summer holiday house sort out?

Snap8TheCat · 20/07/2017 13:34

As usual my house needs a good declutter and clean Grin

I am a childminder by day and so will be out and about a fair bit but can also fit in some house chores whilst they are nicely amused and encourage them to help me with things like sorting the playrooms out.

The summer holidays and starting the new school year off with a fresh start seems like a good idea.

Would anyone like to join me?

Smile

Today's challenge

Sorry got side tracked to a caravan

I feel like I've been doing a lot of just moving stuff around but actually the clutter/disaster zones are much much smaller.

Still need to keep plodding through paperwork but had to clear my baking cupboard due to bloody flour weevil. To be fair it did need doing but today wasn't ideal.

My 2yo DD isn't helpful in the slightest - She considers my step stool hers and reclaims it by sitting on my feet and pushing back against the bottom cupboard door.

As for sorting her clothes - it is very piecemeal as there's no chance of a trying on session. She doesn't have many though - style/length she really needs to be in 2-3 but for width we're just about growing out of 12-18 months (or 3-6 for shorts!).

All I could find that I liked was £££ dresses (wait until nearer friend's wedding) and leggings (have millions). So in the spirit of declutterimg I bought nothing!

MsAwesomeDragon · 25/07/2017 18:24

Well, I have achieved a tidy and somewhat cleaner hallway. This is it. It's not perfect by any means and actually I'd prefer it to be a cupboard rather than shelves but they were more than twice the price so this is what we've got. There's space for all our regular use bags. And the new shoe rack will go beside it when I've bought it.

Tomorrow I'll start on the bathroom, sorting stuff so I can crack on and paint when dd2 is away for the weekend with brownies

I really need to join you! We may be moving so need to declutter and clean in case we need to start packing soon. We only moved 6 months ago but seem to have accumulated loads since!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 19:38

Wow that's brilliant Mrsawesomedragon.

Graffeski, FlowersWine.

Managed to take two big bags to the charity shop with both DC in tow so I'm counting that as a win. Still ploughing through the back of our wardrobe.

Giraffeski · 25/07/2017 20:06

Thanks @Twostressy
We have just had a viewing from the other family who offered on the house initially, who are still keen and still haven't found somewhere they like, incredibly. They asked if they could come straight round.
So fingers crossed, as if we can replace the buyer then we might not lose the house we are buying and have just paid for a full survey and solicitors fees.Angry
DH has just gone out to pick up a Thai as I am so stressed out I feel all over the place and I can't think what to cook

Well done op!!! I am a teacher and off for the holidays - have done a lot so far...

Printed hard copies of dcs first year for traditional photo albums. Very happy with them. Now just going to create photo books online for each year. Have some old old iPads and SD cards.

Have delcuttered the toys and threw out / donated a black bag today. Some older cars etc have gone out to the sandpit outside. Feels great. Superglued the train set to a large table and blackboard painted another so lots to keep them busy. Then any that have run out of batteries are in a box for replacing tomorrow. Ran over the room with zoflora grapefruit and have a headache!!!

We wallpapered our bedroom and got a piece of furniture recovered so it is looking lovely. Old French style

Sorted dcs clothes and threw out odd socks. Have started buying autumn clothes so enough now until Halloween I hope. Will label tomorrow night before going back to preschool

I have culled my wardrobe and have organised my makeup and dressing table. Have to do shoes and accessories yet.

Kitchen cubboards all washed inside and out. Threw out tubberware. Put every dish that isn't used daily for a quick wash in the dishwasher. Decluttered bathroom and under kitchen sink. Will post pictures tomorrow. Not feeling I am having a break tet though.

Well done everyone lots of jobs getting done 😊
I've nearly finished the girls room. Moved a couple old mattresses out of their. They keep making a mess again but are getting their head around putting stuff away slowly.

Day 3 today for those trying the January cure

itshappenedagain · 26/07/2017 12:28

I'm in! I'm going to tackle under the stairs...loads of stuff to go to the tip. I've told the kids they need to each find 15 items to donate to charity. Dd is completely in and will probably get rid of loads. Ds on the other hand will need a rocket under him help.

Haudyerwheesht · 26/07/2017 13:17

This morning I've managed to sort half of dd's double wardrobe. Got rid of all old school uniform and karate suits etc etc . Labelled all the new stuff and folded and put it away - even paired up socks which is a job in itself! I really really hope it stays like that - dd (6) isn't even the one who'll wreck it - dh will / would.

Bananacustardyum · 26/07/2017 13:30

I'm just having a break (eating chocolate!) after making a good start on my study/sewing room. I've sorted out 3 bags of books for charity shop. Sorted out loads of filing. Sorted out my pile of sewing materials. Still loads to do in there but it's a start!

Snap8TheCat · 26/07/2017 16:56

Some of you are sorting massive amounts of stuff out. I've just managed to sort my kitchen drawers out in between working today.

One box of books to charity bookstall

Three big bags to charity shop

About 100 magazines gutted and recycled

And the place is still rammed. I need to be even more ruthless.

itshappenedagain · 26/07/2017 19:00

A productive afternoon.
10 boxes of children's books
5 bags of children's clothing
2 doll pranks
3 doll cots and a nice big space on the children's bookshelves!
Plus I've ordered a new kitchen worktop and cupboard so I can finally have a dishwasher fitted!

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/07/2017 19:55

I've done absolutely nothing productive at all today. Well, I bought a new shoe rack, but I haven't even got it out of the car let alone put any shoes on it. I've played with dd instead, which is something that needs to be done during the holidays, so I don't feel even slightly guilty. I suppose I could do something now, but I'm not going to bother.

I might do something tomorrow, but we're meeting friends for a picnic, so I won't have a massive amount of time really.

wobblywonderwoman · 26/07/2017 21:39

January cure day 4

www.apartmenttherapy.com/january-cure-2017-assignment-4-240075

OutcastTraveller · 27/07/2017 06:37

I'm up for that! Have 3 DC aged 13, 11, 4 and no one ever gives me a hand and I'm about ready for throwing a god almighty bitchfit. I have a debilitating illness and the house often catches up with me, hubby works 2 jobs and helps out with me... And everyone in house fu king waits til I'm tidying to do anything! Fucking pigsty and they'll quite happily live in it. The boys make me want to scream , so I'm in if you'll have me...need motivated cos its so fucking depressing.

Notinyournelly · 27/07/2017 08:30

I didn't do much yesterday hopefully I'll get some done today.

I wonder if I can squash two mattresses in my car with the kids too.

I think everyone is welcome to join in.

Outcast my kids are lazy and messy too but it's my fault and I'm changing it.
With my son. Total restrictions on his tablet. Until he has done stuff I asked.
Lots of battles but I've been strict and I realised last night that it's starting to work. He groaned for a few minutes and gave up.

Acopyofacopy · 27/07/2017 08:41

I'm theoretically in - all I need to do is stop procrastinating on mn!
Dc1s room is done, now it's dc2s turn. Kitchen in the afternoon!
Thank God for rainy holidays...
