Who's up for a summer holiday house sort out?

Snap8TheCat · 20/07/2017 13:34

As usual my house needs a good declutter and clean Grin

I am a childminder by day and so will be out and about a fair bit but can also fit in some house chores whilst they are nicely amused and encourage them to help me with things like sorting the playrooms out.

The summer holidays and starting the new school year off with a fresh start seems like a good idea.

Would anyone like to join me?

I've done the boxes of paperwork and cleared most of the laundry (but now have a clean laundry pile mountain).

I need to keep getting rid of things and then fix the hoover because my carpets are looking scruffy.

I'm still on the declutter train. And my kitchen is now completely clear of clutter as are the children's rooms. My new dishwasher is arriving today. Just my room to sort out the paperwork I and under the stairs.
Another 2 tip runs and 2 charity shop runs today.
I will be clutter free by the end of the holidays.

Horribly busy week trying to entertain children in wet weather. However it has cheered up now it's my day off and DH is off too so we are going to sort our clothes out together this weekend. 👏

I'd also like to sort all the kitchen cupboards and drawers done this weekend. They aren't too bad as I have a tiny kitchen so have to keep on top of it.

Happy decluttering everyone!

Wow Snap, you have done loads on your list! Not done much myself as am visiting my parents with DC but have left DH at home (working) so have asked him to clean the house and gather all the kids' craft creations that are all over the house and declutter some of them.

Also managed to do emails and will aim to organise some photos too.

I'm struggling 😩
I was a bit ill last few days and had zero energy so today I'm just trying to get things even half tidy but I am feeling really overwhelmed at how much I need to do to get this house in shape.

JaneJeffer · 15/08/2017 15:18

Decluttering is doing my head in! I get a bit done and then I can't get back to it for a couple of days and I lose motivation. Where does it all come from? I need a magic wand and just make it disappear. It's the sorting out I can't stand.

Snap8TheCat · 15/08/2017 18:40

I go and visit people with super tidy and organised homes... then I come home to mine and that is where my motivation comes from!

Hello all, I'm back from my parents now. Plan is to unpack over the next couple of days then get back into the decluttering.

spiderbabymum · 16/08/2017 22:39

Hello I'm back too after stopping the January cure halfway thru again
Gonna restart Monday on here and will post some more inspiring challenges !!

wobblywonderwoman · 16/08/2017 22:46

I am really really struggling. Boredom has set in

As we speak I have two black bags of curtains and cushion for the charity shop.

I did my make up, toiletries and wardrobe today including a chest of drawers.

Toys are done

Dcs clothes are done

Airing cupboard done

Freezer done

Utility room done

Kitchen cupboards - done except for a few extra things I might clear out

But I have so much to do. Photos to print/ make into photo books and a tonne of paperwork

Lots of recycling to do. Lots of limescale to remove .. Tile cleaning .. painting.

grumpypug · 18/08/2017 00:12

I've been helping a friend clear a relatives house out. 80 years of 'stuff' either charity shopped, skipped or given away. It's definitely made me think about my clutter and what I'm keeping.

Another 2 weeks of school holidays and I have found my motivation again Smile

notinyournelly · 18/08/2017 13:58

I'm giving up, half way through the holidays and it's spoiling the kids fun.
I have done quite a bit, but the daily mess is enough to deal with, and unless we do something every day the kids end up fighting or driving me nuts lol.
So as soon as they are back in school then I'll start again.

itshappenedagain · 21/08/2017 17:34

I've kept going. I've managed to sort 5 bin bags full of old paperwork and decorate my bedroom. No clutter is coming back in. I've got a couple more days of sorting to go as I'm going through every drawer cupboard etc to ensure it's easier to keep clean. It's definitely worked I. The kitchen and kids rooms. New wardrobes arrive next Wednesday so wAnt everything sorted by then.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/08/2017 19:15

Still going here too! Have nearly made a homework station (hoping to finish tonight) and now tackling the top of our wardrobe.

Is it cheating to jump on this thread now? I've done a few bits over the summer but only a few days left now really and want to crack on.

My kids are 10 & 12 and I've been using the summer to help them with their rooms/clothes and so on. Takes forever but worth it I hope. Also doing decluttering as I go so have done a car load once already and have another pile accumulating.

I do have a cleaner so that helps, but have to tidy before they come so they can actually see the floor/surfaces... We are quite a cluttery house but I've kind of accepted some of it. Big pushes take so much energy that I don't always have.

Going on holiday always motivates me because holidays houses are so clean and tidy by comparison with mine.

Haven't posted on this thread since the start. How's everyone doing?
The last of my charity stuff went last week.
My house is now clear apart from necessity items , still got the OH but that's a different thread!
I'm now onto the deep clean, everywhere dusty after decorating the house. Struggling with cleaning bathroom grout and don't want to regrout like I had to in the loo.
