Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2017 13:34

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Morning all! Up at a decent hour and Caglets did their morning list pretty much independently. Will see how we get on for a few days after getting back from mum's and then we will make a bedtime routine as well. That will take more getting used to though because we are not great at routine at all and it requires more organisation from me (not letting them start watching a film too late, prompting them to get into jammies on time etc) so it's a little scarier! But it needs doing desperately. And DH will need to get used to it too on the evenings he's here, normally he's not home from work until 11.

Have sorted some laundry and started packing, need to make a phone call too and also we haven't even looked at DD's writing challenge this week!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 11:01

Morning all.

Just have DD1 today so we have done some things she wanted to do this morning and hoping she will help me with holiday packing this afternoon. She wants to do it, the question is how productive will it be Grin.

Ta da:-
Mini shop
Job hunting email sent

To do:-
Put away shopping
Lunch
Start packing for holiday (we go Saturday)
Hopefully a bit of decluttering

Aaaargh this is the kind of time where my lack of organisation makes me want to cry! Just got on the bus to discover our bus passes ran out yesterday. Which I knew they would soon but for some stupid reason didn't write down. Thought we didn't have cash so came home and am now in taxi because waiting for the next bus would mean DD and the friend she's meeting would miss their connection (bus to drama is hourly). But I realised I actually DID have cash (I had, in one small act of being organised, already put the caglets' pocket money purses in my bag ready for stay at mum's) so we could've just stayed on the bus and paid cash!

And I STILL haven't applied for my disabled bus pass (eligible due to PIP just need to get a photo). So will have to renew mine for a shorter period too and waste money I didn't need to spend.

It's a miracle I didn't cry as I get SO frustrated with myself making mistakes like this, and I was also very aware that our grumpy git of a neighbour had just got on the bus and would be gleefully smug at my embarrassment! So I was very breezy about it!

FFS. Anyone else as stupid as me? Blush

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/07/2017 11:10

You arent stupid cag and you are p egnant which will make you feel more emotional
I excel at stupid and disorganized.forget lists and money often when go shopping
Be kind to yourself.xx

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 11:46

I have done similar Cag Flowers. In fact, if was after a bus trip similar to that that I made sure I (nearly) always have an emergency tenner stashed in home, work and swimming bags.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 27/07/2017 12:13

Thank you both! Can't even blame pregnancy TBH I am just disaorganised and scatty at the best of times! I am pleased I managed not to cry despite hormones though (I have been very tearful and grumpy the last few weeks)

Home now having safely deposited DD with friends, DS is having his screen time and I think I will watch some catch up tv. Still got stuff to sort out for mum's but not in such a hurry now - a friend is visiting the area today and offered to drive us back with her so no need to get the train! Yay!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 12:44

Ta da:-
Started packing (a bit) for holiday
Bag of clothes for charity

OP posts:
foxessocks · 27/07/2017 15:58

cag I have definitely done things like before!! Don't beat yourself up, everyone does stuff like this sometimes! (Ok some people don't but they are a bit strange imo and perhaps a bit TOO organised all the time!). I find this stuff is very frustrating at the time but makes a funny story to tell people afterwards Grin

Dh came home early today and it's our wedding anniversary so that was a nice surprise although he is now fixing the car Hmm but we did go for coffee and cake with the children which was nice and relaxing. Takeaway tonight to celebrate! Living the high life!

My ta das aren't much as usual at the moment...anyone else struggling with motivation at the moment? I need a kick up the bum really.

Ta das
Daily routine
Stripped our bed (because the baby was sick on it...)
Posted thank you card

To do
Declutter in living room- take some toys upstairs
Today's mission (haven't seen what it is yet oops!)
Ironing

mermaidsandunicorns · 27/07/2017 16:33

Literally having the worst day ever

Ds1 threw a tantrum this morning and managed to smash the front door window so have had to call a glazier out (anyone know how much frosted glass costs roughly)
He has continued this tweenager mood all day long. Took them to the park to try and improve the grump which ds2 loved but no joy with ds1.
I did go to Poundland and stock up on zoflora to make myself feel better

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 16:36

Oh no mermaids Flowers

foxes, here's the pointy stick for you

Have tidied up the bottom of our wardrobe today.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 27/07/2017 17:10

Thanks toostressy it worked a bit...

Ta das
Dusted cobwebs living room
Took a load of toys back upstairs
Sorted out photos for photo frames (and then argued with dh about where to put them! It still doesn't look right!)

We are implementing new bedtime routine for ds tonight so that I feed him before teeth cleaning / pyjamas etc so that he doesn't feed to sleep anymore and then I can start dropping that feed altogether. I'm dreading it because I know he's going to scream like last night Sad .

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 18:57

Hi all, does anyone remember, did anyone volunteer for August thread or are we just planning on having a sort of ad-hoc one? Have a vague memory of someone volunteering but don't want to drop anyone in it! Also happy to run it if nobody else can.

We go on holiday on Sat and it will be a long drive so if nobody minds I will do links for both Saturday and Sunday on Friday night just in case I don't get on here on Saturday.

Thank you Einstein and too stress you.

This thread has helped my motivation- cheers!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/07/2017 22:54

That's great mamma, I find the same Smile. foxes, hope bedtime was not too horrific. I remember those days well. Hope you got your front door sorted mermaids. Cag, glad you have recovered from bus escapade. I agree with foxes that some people are just scarily organised. Actually I was speaking to someone born organised today and she said that, while it generally makes life easier, she does get very stressed when something gets in the way of that organisation.

zoo, your cooking and baking always sounds amazing.

Big wing flaps to all. Waves to Wh0Kn0ws, SC, BluePheasanf, Grey, Purple, Cotswold and everyone else.

I woke up with the bloody seagulls birds this morning
Was meant to have a man come and fix the washing line today but the forecast isn't good and I don't want him falling off the roof so have put him off til next week.
Need to do the food shop today with two stroppy children

foxessocks · 28/07/2017 08:04

Hope appointment goes well zoo

Good luck mermaid nothing like food shopping with children! I'm doing mine online this week!

Well DS went to sleep without being fed last night which was excellent, didn't cry for too long either. But then he woke up an hour later and screamed the place down so I gave in and fed him because I wanted to eat my dinner Blush and then he was up twice more last night. On the plus side he has only just got up. But now we have to get a move on because the health visitor will be here soon! Maybe she'll have some useful advice on his sleep. Brew

Thanks toostressy!
cag I did something disorganised today- I thought the health visitor was coming to my house and it actually turned out I had to go to some random health centre I've never been to before so I ended up 20 minutes late , stressed out and the children still had toothpaste all over the faces!!

Anyway, no help with sleep really just told me to let the baby cry Hmm . I tried it for nap time and it didn't go well.

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/07/2017 16:51

foxes lil zoo was terrible settling to sleep.i couldnt cope her get self in state to point vomiting.i sat by crib n held hand.dim lights didnt speak.once git used that i let go.then over period weeks ease further iut room til in doorway.then eventually shut door.first stage took best part two weeks but once got to awayinching away it was quicker.not sure thats any help?

So ENT...ears look good.throat bit red.he ask us go get ears test(more hang around)then we went thru results.everythings ok.he says kids often have deferred pain in ears from throat.he suspects throat sore from silent reflux.shes alwats been a little chunky.prone night coupronwhich we thought were due to asthma in family...we shalsehave to see.have gaviscon to try couple month(and reckons prob take that long to see uf helps)
In my heart i know she eats til stuffed and is rather round in tum for her age(arms n legs are slim)having come home and search it it seems smaller portions and limit cheese.ketchup and certsin fruits might also help.i am going to need a tin hat all summer as she loves her food too much

mermaidsandunicorns · 28/07/2017 17:44

I bottled going to the supermarket. Ds2 (who is asd) is calm but has stripped completely naked and I can't face the battle of getting him dressed and then go out in the rain to a very busy supermarket
I have cleaned tho
Hoovered through
Two loads of laundry done
Mopped throughout
Dusted
Ironing in progress

I've found sticking the archers omnibus on whilst ironing is the easiest way to get through it

foxessocks · 28/07/2017 18:57

Thanks zoo I may try that when I'm feeling a little better about it all, I'm not sure if it would work because he seems to just thrash about so much. The HV just said to keep on lying him back down but I was in there for an hour! Anyway, new bedtime routine is going ok at the moment so I think we'll just take it a day / sleep at a time. I've felt pretty emotional about the whole thing all day which I know sounds ridiculous but I think everything has been getting on top of me a bit. His sleep isn't too bad at night but the HV made me feel like he really shouldn't be waking up at all in the night now.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 28/07/2017 19:34

Hello all. Have been busy today and now waiting for DD1 to go to sleep so I can go and get fish and chips for DH and me (day before the holiday so easy tea planned).

Ta da:-
Home bleugh
DD1 swimming
DD2 new swimming lesson booked (needed to do this as she usually goes with nursery but will be leaving that when she starts school)
Some laundry done

Had quite a nice day and both kids pretty good until the drive home from swimming which was miserable with them both messing about Sad.

To do:-
Fish and chips!
Pack as much as we can
Before bed routine
As much laundry as is feasible.

foxes, gradual retreat as zoo suggests is worth a try I think. I think HVs have to say things like they shouldn't be waking but in reality I would consider night waking and difficult bedtimes normal at that age Sad. zoo, glad your DD got seen today and that you have some things to try. Sometimes with reflux people do want to eat all the time as it can ease the symptoms so hopefully the meds might help with that.

mermaids, avoiding food shop sounds the sensible decision.

Big wing flaps to Cotswold, Purple, SC, Grey, BluePheasant, Afresh, mamma and everyone else.

I'll post links now for both tomorrow and Sunday as I'm not sure if I will be on much tomorrow as we go on holiday.
