Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

And dd has been watching cbeebies all day Blush

foxessocks · 25/07/2017 15:40

Dh has got home early today and is taking the children to the park thank goodness so I'm going to get some stuff done (and drink a cup of tea in peace and possibly eat some chocolate)

To do
Finish daily routine
Declutter in living room
Clean shelves in living room
Finish making dinner
Ironing

Cagliostro · 25/07/2017 15:52

Ah it's so hard with a clingy baby :(

I am pretty sure I have caught DSD's cold, really nasty scratchy throat :( DH has unexpectedly managed to switch his day off (he would have been off while the Caglets and I were away which always feels like a waste!) so I'm really glad he's off.

Told DD that we are going to get a little tidying done before she can go and knock for the neighbours. It was meant to be in the living room especially as we will have specialist health visitors coming next month, but I'm looking round the room thinking I really don't know what I can get them doing in here?! It's too messy and I can't see the wood for the trees. So we are going to go upstairs instead.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 25/07/2017 17:10

As part of the organisation station we have:
White board pens in multiple colours
A monthly calendar that you can fill in dates and other details
a packet of babywipes
spare luggage labels for the menu planner in the kitchen
Monthly calendar is stuck to a door around the door I stick important letters with blue tack (eg school trips/termdates etc) I have also in the past stuck medical letters that i must not lose but I have a folder for than nonsense

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 25/07/2017 17:13

these days.
it is not fancy, but it is practical. The door is on the main thoroughfare between the kitchen and the lounge, it is not visible from any windows so there is no security issues. The calendar is more of an important date who is in the house for food thing. but very useful when used.

It also gets used for emergency message/note taking whilst on phone thing. But that is because there is never a pen or piece of paper when you need it.....

Hth

My mn/computer is playing up and posting randomly mid posts, been at work so there has been no flying. will lurk if you need me to answer any more questions.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 19:45

Einstein, that sounds fab. Ok, one day I will have some kind of organisation station. We do have a noticeboard which I am quite good at keeping current and then I have an organised mum calendar in the kitchen that everything goes on. Will have to waste some time looking at all those lovely Pinterest pics Afresh.

Cag, hope you feel better soon. Glad the clinic is getting an alternative drink.

and foxes, hope you managed to get your chocolate and sit down.

mermaids, sounds like a sensible holiday list there Smile.

Big wing flaps to all.

Fairly productive day to say I have had both children.

Ta da:-
Play date
Took two big bags to charity shop
Went through some of the stuff shoved at the bag of our wardrobe - there is so much.
Laundry

To do:-
Tea
Before bed routine
More laundry

Evening all

Went to my first town council meeting tonight. It was really good! We had a rep in from the wildlife trust as we've been trying to do a big push on drainage and not putting things into the drains that shouldn't be there. When I read previous minutes I had noticed that one of our biggest expenditures was jet washing public loos as they had become blocked by any wipes so I asked whether more promotion should be done in public loos which he really liked.

I also mentioned about the fact that cooking oils do not contain the correct disposal methods on them and whether they could approach retailers about promoting correct disposal on packaging - and he really liked that idea too

So I am really chuffed after that on a roll now

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/07/2017 07:29

Those are great ideas mermaids! You're right, I've never seen disposal info on cooking fats. Similarly I had no idea about not flushing tampons until I read it on MN!

Day two of the morning routine went well! DS and DH left at 8 as DS has dermatology appt. Even did DD's maths early and now we are taking the opportunity to watch Return to Oz as DS is scared of it actually so is DH :)

Still feel like crap but managing to cough up stuff so hopefully clearing it out quickly

Can someone give me a hand with the FlyLady app please?
I can't find a way to read the whole line of some of the items on the agenda:
Afternoon routine:
15 minutes of loving movement (ex...
Evening routine:
Put things needed for tomorrow at...
Spend 2 mins cleaning off a hot....

Can anyone tell me what the whole sentence is?!

Thanks Smile

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 26/07/2017 19:04

The last sentence will be cleaning off a hot spot. No idea what the other two are as don't have the app technological dinosaur

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 26/07/2017 19:05

Although at a guess the end of the 1st sentence will be an example of something to get you moving (eg go for a walk or some such)

foxessocks · 26/07/2017 20:23

Hi all , have just had a very stressful bedtime with ds as he screamed for 45 minutes almost made himself sick Sad I'm trying to wind down breastfeeding and it's emotional! He is finally asleep and dd has gone quiet too so just scoffing dd leftover cinema chocolate Blush fingers crossed she has forgotten about it!

Only really did the basics today as were out most of the day. No chance of doing anymore now,I'm too worn out!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/07/2017 20:32

Bloody nits after one day of holiday club for DD1 Angry. Will be on later.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 26/07/2017 20:32

Is it just me or does the 'loving movement' sound a bit pervy Blush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/07/2017 21:41

Hello all. Cag Grin. foxes, we have also had a horrible bedtime here with overtired DD2 and DD1 with nits Sad. DH and I took comfort in ice cream Smile. Am in naughty corner tonight as there really wasn't time to do much else once bedtime done.

Dishwasher on and laundry nearly ready to go on tomorrow so not too bad. Work was also ok today.

Great ideas mermaids and great list as usual zoo.

Hello mamma Smile. Yes, I think Einstein is right. this might help a bit. I'm afraid I have never had any success with loading or using the Flylady app itself.

Will post links in a bit.

Evening all. I have done nothing today except play board games with DS and randomly nap on the sofa, feeling rough although not wheezing now so fairly optimistic. Just got the aches and sore throat now. Can't manage taking DD to try drama club tomorrow but lovely friends have stepped in! Thanks

Need to pack in the morning for a quiet few days at mum's, and get a lunch together for DD too. Hopefully I can manage that. Also need to dig out some books for a pupil.

Storage boxes arrived but I'm not doing anything with them until we're back from mum's.

Cagliostro · 26/07/2017 23:25

Sorry about the rough nights. And the nits, ugh. I live in fear of the damn things (my hair is outrageously thick so if I get them we are screwed). We all now use Vosene shampoo (with whatever normal conditioner) and apply the hair spray daily. Not a guarantee or anything but the only time they've ever had nits was when I stopped using it (thinking they aren't at school anymore so don't need to worry... I was wrong!). So I stick with it loyally now!

Should really try and sleep now. I'm off for a snooze in the haughty corner, sorry in advance for snoring.
