Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2017 13:34

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

ta da
bathroom under bleach - check
Piss ds off by telling him his room will be tidy before he goes away tomo - check
Piss ds off some more by pestering him for laundry and washing up - check and check
make pancakes that ds swore he would cook if I made the batter - check Angry
put the bread machine on for pizza for tea - yep done and removed and eaten
put bread on to cold rise - done
Turn the rhubarb that has been hanging out on the bench for nearly a week into 2 crumbles Blush - check
empty the laundry basket that had been holding clean clothes and hanging out in my room - yep just in time for more laundry to be done.
Pull out school shirt for stitching buttons on before it goes into the wash -discover lost one button and have to cut off the bottom of the shirt as that will be tucked into ds' trousers. yes I am crazy but ds doesn't tend to grow until the end of Sept so he will need these for the first month or so and I will pick up some the next size up for when the toad has his growth spurt.
look at to do list of everything I wanted to achieve by the end of month and consider whether to laugh or cry....
throw cinamon bread mix into the bread machine now that pizza is being eaten.
2nd load of washing for now is now in the machine.
deep clean the bathroom to an inch of its life
Fill and run the dw
Wash out the kitchen bin
handwashing
put clean and spare mats away
Clean cloak room and put clean toilet mat down
start packing for ds' trip
Put milk free washing up in to soak

yeah I got a bit Angry at the state of the house. Can you tell? Blush well there are 3 grown ups in the household and even ds is old enough to pull his weight with chores

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 23/07/2017 20:39

Sorry Stressy been a bit busy actually flying for a change

mermaidsandunicorns · 23/07/2017 20:40

Evening all

Work day today but I'm now on holiday for a week

Packed ds2's bag as he goes away camping tomorrow

Need to make him a packed lunch don't let me forget

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/07/2017 22:08

Very impressive list Einstein! Hope DS2 has a good time mermaids - remember lunch!!!!!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 24/07/2017 07:01

Did you make the lunch yet mermaids? :o

Awake early today. Not sure what will be achieved. I may try my pregnancy exercise DVD again as I haven't for ages. Also need to find out if I have an appointment at the hospital as I suddenly have a feeling I was supposed to see someone this week (besides the MW tomorrow at the GP). We've not been great at keeping the diary updated lately. Also I need to find lucozade for my glucose tolerance test, but it can't just be any lucozade because they've changed the sugar level, so I have to look for the old one in corner shops etc. Goodness knows what happens if I can't find any.

foxessocks · 24/07/2017 07:08

mermaids hope you remembered the lunch!

Einstein your list is brilliant, well done! Although sorry other members of your family aren't pulling their weight SadAngry I'd be annoyed too. Also...off topic a bit...do you like having a bread mixer?! I dream of making my own bread but I don't think I'd ever actually do it!

mermaidsandunicorns · 24/07/2017 07:33

Remembered to make the lunch thankyou xx ds is still snoozing so will go and give him a prod

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 08:13

Morning all, well done for making lunch mermaids! Managed to get rid of a couple of too-small tops in DD1's room while I was up there this morning. Not much else done, had lazy morning so far but must get on now to sort breakfast etc out.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 24/07/2017 10:06

Caglets collecting their laundry at the moment. Also going to get them to swap their clothes round ready for when we do get the skip as then the jammies can stay in their room while everything else (stored in the bed drawers) can come into our room. That way in theory they'll only need to go in our room once a day Hmm.

Also realised we really need to make their morning/mealtime/bedtime routine visual prompts done. It might just help a little bit but I've kept thinking oh I'll do it when I have the printer sorted and found the laminator. But that's just letting perfectionism get in the way of progress isn't it, I need to just make the list so they can start following them. I think it would be too much for them having it all in one go so I think we will start with the morning one. Even the reminder to put jammies in the laundry basket will be useful!

mermaidsandunicorns · 24/07/2017 10:35

Waved ds off he was so excited

Realised I forgot to pack a spoon for his yoghurt

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 24/07/2017 10:47

mermaids if he is anything like ds he will lick it out of the tub.
foxes i love the bread machine. I know i could make actual bread in it but i prefer to just use it to make the dough. I have made bread without it and did do a batch that just used a food mixer yesterday, but it takes longer to rise. Is it necessary? nope but it does make impulse fresh bread making and allergy catering easier. Grin although just to warn you easy access to a bread machine and fresh bread is not always good for the waist line. our one will do gluten free bread if it is needed too. And that is before you start with the sweet bread, cinamon rolls, belgium buns etc....

laundry, packing and taming ds' room day.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 16:01

Was also going to ask if he would just lick it Einstein?! I also keep meaning to make up morning routine checklists Cag - will put it on the to-do list.

We have had a nice day but 4pm grump time has hit now. Just doing an early tea out of the freezer that I am trying to declutter a little bit.

OP posts:
mermaidsandunicorns · 24/07/2017 16:28

He probably would tbh but he did have a moan at me. Rang school to check they'd arrived ok as didn't hear anything.
New carpet fitted on stairs today and have British gas man here now fitting smart meters (anyone know if they're any good I like how I can use an app with them)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 18:15

I think smart meters sound good but have signed up loads of times for information about one and they never contact me Confused.

Ta da:-
Nice day until 4pm when DD2 started kicking off but we have all recovered!
Girls tea
Both girls in PJs
Dishwasher on

To do:-
Tidy kitchen a bit more
Laundry
Decluttering - not done very well today so far. Going to do a bit in one of the bedrooms. Living room currently fairly decluttered Shock and all the missions are cleaning / dusting type ones and I think decluttering the rest of the house is more of a priority.

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 24/07/2017 18:50

Mermaids love my smart meters.i have pay as yiu go ibes.much nicer top u in warn dry house thsn trail shoos in all weather. Makes very aware usage too...

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/07/2017 18:52

I had an update abd my phone even more temperamentalSad

Einstein i am a bread junkie. Can i move in with you?i know how to cook and can use wash machineGrin

mermaidsandunicorns · 24/07/2017 18:54

zoo the incentive of being able to top up in my pyjamas was my main incentive to get them. All installed now they're very snazzy. British gas man was telling me that they'll all need to be replaced again at some point as energy company's all have to have the same model and they've just launched new ones

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 19:03

Cag, forgot to comment, re. the glucose. I agree with mermaids, ask your midwife or pharmacist for further advice if you can't find it. Lucozade changing has affected quite a lot of things so they are hopefully aware of the issue.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 24/07/2017 19:06

Hurrah, glad about that as they are two of the caglets' favourite games. Those two will not be getting packed away just yet.

Tired today and not done anything useful really as had to go to Asda for lunch/dinner stuff (delivery tomorrow). Got lunchboxes and drinks bottles and a weekly planner board in the vague hope of it helping with taking food out with us and being more organised respectively... we'll see Hmm :o

Midwife tomorrow so I'll ask for clarification on the lucozade thing. Can't stand the stuff as it is (I quite like the still, orange squash type and have it when extra dizzy but the fizzy stuff is GROSS)

Been reading old organisation tip threads and it's got me thinking, I am definitely getting better at simple things like picking up something to take to another room when I go there - not every time but when it occurs to me now I actually do it rather than thinking 'meh'. Similar with putting something away after use which I am not a natural at by any means. So that's a big improvement. Next up is to use the kettle boiling time for something useful, I hear that tip so often - except I don't boil the kettle as I don't drink tea or coffee. So I will use toaster and microwave time instead.

Morning list will be (not sure if I'll do a particular order)
Breakfast
Dressed
Put jammies in laundry basket (forces them into clean jammies each night too!)
Clear up their breakfast bowls
Teeth
Wash hands and face
Hair sprayed (we use vosene) and brushed
Hangers back in cupboard
Water bottle in kitchen

Eventually I will add clearing their bed to it because they end up with books, scraps of paper, Lego etc. But I think it's a losing battle for now so we will just focus on the simple stuff. Off to mum's in a few days but still going to start this before as then we can continue it once we are home.

Cagliostro · 24/07/2017 19:08

I've heard it's really messed things up for some diabetics who use lucozade as a hypo treatment :( they are definitely aware it's an issue but beyond telling us to look in places like corner shops rather than supermarkets they haven't given any info.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 19:19

Glucojuice might be an alternative drink Cag but check with your midwife.

YY, typical short sighted policy making. Introduce sugar tax, seems like a good idea but ignores the fact that lucozade is used as a treatment by lots of people and the change has been very badly publicised Angry. Will get off my high horse now.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 19:23

Should clarify I don't have a problem with sugar tax itself necessarily, it's just the lack of foresight or publicity once problems identified.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 24/07/2017 19:24

Einstein dh makes chocolate orange bread it's amazing...bread maker sounds tempting but have a feeling I wouldn't use it much like the food processor I have lurking in my cupboards! Now I've said that in going to try and make some soup with it this week!

I didn't do the mission because we have brand new sofas so definitely nothing down the sides yet - give it a week! Grin

Ta das
Daily routine
Food shopping
Picked up parcel
Ordered photos
Ran some other errands
Ironing
Sorted some socks
Cooked dinner and tidied after
Hoovered living room

My curry sauce stained my kitchen work top though...any tips on how to remove?!Shock

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/07/2017 19:46

Einstein, oh no! Presume you have tried Jiff / Ciff?
