Fledglings flying high in July - the Flylady thread

Hello and welcome to July's Flylady thread! This is a lovely friendly thread where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system in the hope of having organised homes. Some of us are more successful at this than others ;).

Newcomers are very welcome, please don't be put off by any abbreviations or general gossip. Please join in the gossip.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) will post information about the next day. This will be the current zone we are in, the decluttering/ tidying mission and the habit for the day / month. Generally this is done the evening before.

All information is available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails -
we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

There will be lots of information on this thread and you can also have a look around the (confusing at times) Flylady website:-

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

It is not a miracle and sometimes the missions are very optimistic but I work on the principle that something is better than nothing :)

Thanks for a great June thread SC.

Happy flying everyone Smile.

Grin Stressy did you mean Foxes?

foxes bicarb and lemon juice paste should be gentle enough not to damage surfaces if they are precious, although bicarb and water might be worth a try if very precious tops.

Today's ta da is a weird list:
laundry
take bed apart to find suitcase
hoover storage space in bed
hoover matress and topper
steam clean matress and topper
pack ds' stuff
drop ds off with his dad - twas a lovely drive in the sun
sort tea
get ds to pick ALL the lego off the floor before he went.
Folding
paired most of the sock pile of doom - just the odds and school socks left to do.
hoovered lounge floor yes I know i did it yesterday but I will probably have to do it again tomo too and the day after

Just going to throw my bed back together and crawl in it I think. I am tired and tomo is going to be a busy day at work.

Grin yes, sorry.

Ta da:
Evening routine
Composed work email
Got big box of school socks for DD1 to look at tomorrow and see which ones still fit and which could go to DD2.

To do:
So the first thing to declutter out of our wardrobe is a big bag of storage containers. Yes, you read that right. Perhaps I am beyond help SmileBlush. They are all those Tupperware type things which are great for pens / pencils etc but not big enough for real storage. Going to put telly on and go through it.

zoo, that is what appeals to me about the smart meters - being more aware of usage. foxes, if none of those suggestions work then I don't know if you have a Lakeland Plastics near you but they are often very helpful with stuff like that and will recommend products. They deliver too (don't work for them, I promise!).

Big wing flaps to Afresh, BluePheasant, Cotswold, Purple, SC, Wh0Kn0ws and everyone else.

Thanks everyone, going to try those ideas out later. I scrubbed at it with my normal kitchen cleaner but it didn't budge and then I just collapsed in front of the TV for the rest of the evening!

Been up this morning since 4am with a non sleeping baby who has been falling asleep for about five minutes at a time then waking up and crying every time Confused not sure what's up with him but after a brief snooze at about 6.30 we're giving up and going to put the kettle on!

Afreshstartplease · 25/07/2017 07:44

Morning all

Bad night with baby here too so I feel your pain foxes Ds was up and down constantly between 12 and 6 when I gave up and came downstairs. He's now napping in the pram and I'm trying to motivate myself to move.

Does anyone on here have any kind of organisation station set up at home?

foxessocks · 25/07/2017 08:29

Glad it's not just my baby afresh although sorry you've had a rough night, I'll be putting my ds down for a nap at the earliest opportunity!!

What's an organisation station?! I want one!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 08:46

Also want one!! What are they and can they organise me?! Brew for you both Afresh and foxes.

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 25/07/2017 09:05

Yes. we have one.
ONly works if you use it though. And I have been slacking this year. Had worked previously.

Afreshstartplease · 25/07/2017 09:13

What kind of stuff did you use to put yours together Einstein?

Afreshstartplease · 25/07/2017 09:17

Ds is still napping which is unusual but I am trying to make the most of it as yesterday first nap of the day was the only one he had where he didn't insist on being lay on me! He's not usually like that I think it could be his teeth.

So I have moved all the boxes from the side of the kitchen which can be seen through the window and given that end a good sweep. Shifted things around abit and inhaled a load of dust and other crap.

Have also put on washing machine and dryer.

foxessocks · 25/07/2017 10:07

afresh think we have some teething going on here too, ds two front teeth seem to have popped up overnight! He has fallen asleep on my lap now so I need to somehow move him so I can get ready to go somewhere today as our morning plans have gone out the window now Hmm and I was hoping to get some dinner on in the slow cooker.

foxessocks · 25/07/2017 10:08

Love that organisation thing ...I don't really have a.space for something as big as that. I do have a blackboard but I just use it for shopping lists

Cagliostro · 25/07/2017 10:12

Did our morning list today! Caglets were reasonably receptive. The list looks long but it's quick and they worked through it as we wrote it.

Feeling the effects of being disorganised now! I knew I had a MW appt but while doing the list time flew and suddenly I had ten minutes to find my notes and get dressed and collect a wee sample which in my rush I managed to spill slightly on myself so had to change trousers and undies again Blush just missed the bus and had to speed walk (well, more like a hurried waddle) down to the doctors instead. Now sitting waiting with cramps and feeling dizzy. One day I'll actually get this sort of thing ready the night before...

foxessocks · 25/07/2017 10:14

cag my midwife once spilled my wee sample down herself! Shock poor woman! Hope appointment goes well.

Afreshstartplease · 25/07/2017 10:16

foxes I am sure as a midwife she had experienced far worse!

Cagliostro · 25/07/2017 10:17

Oh no foxes 😱😂😳

Love that organisation station! I put up our new weekly planner board yesterday but when we move (and can actually screw stuff to the wall etc) I would love to use something more substantial

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 10:53

Oh wow I absolutely love that organisation station idea but think it might be too much for DH Grin.

Agree with Afresh, a bit of wee will not phase a midwife Grin.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 10:54

Although I would have been embarrassed too at the time Smile.

OP posts:
mermaidsandunicorns · 25/07/2017 10:57

cag don't worry at all

I think all nursing staff deal with people who are on a wide spectrum when it comes to personal hygiene so a they won't blink an eye at a tiny bit of wee. When I was pregnant my mw handed my sample back to me as she didn't want to dispose of it Hmm

Washing done
Washing hung out
Grass cut
Important email sent

I'm on holiday so not worrying too much this week

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/07/2017 11:09

Ta da:-
Two drawers in DD1's room gone through and too-small clothes removed for DD2
Got out a couple of bags of clothes from the back of my wardrobe to go through and a couple of bags that can go straight to charity

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 25/07/2017 12:10

DS was wearing trousers I had completely forgotten about! They must have been buried at the back of his drawer because they were too big, and now TBH they are verging on ankle swingers! 😳😳😳

Antenatal clinic is apparently now sourcing some generic glucose drink so I have to phone up and collect some when they have a supply. Bit of a faff but at least I can get it done

foxessocks · 25/07/2017 12:36

Yes my midwife used to give the wee back every time!

I'm having a completely unproductive day. I can't put ds down because he just cries and cries and will only sleep on me today, obviously not feeling quite right. I had to leave him to cry for ten minutes just so I could make me and dd some lunch and I felt so mean!

So my very small ta da list
Some daily routine - emptied and loaded dishwasher, took rubbish out, hung out laundry.
Made dinner in the slow cooker
Had a shower

I'm so tired !
