Welcome to the April Flylady thread. We will be posting links every day to the Flylady method of maintaining your home and all posters, lurkers, newbies and returners are welcome - there will be a lot bit of general chat too. Post your ta-da successes and inspire others (or join some of us in the naughty corner on a less-than-stellar day, we all have them!) and bask in the support of the fledglings as we swing into Spring and ease towards Easter (avoiding the dreaded pointy stick of motivation)!

Eek apologies for the rant essay.

Wishing you all a lovely day xx

foxessocks · 25/04/2017 08:24

zoo my cat is also on disgrace this morning after he woke us up at 4.30am after I'd just settled the baby Angry !

Dani your job sounds really interesting I have to say I'm intrigued! I also work from home (on maternity leave at the moment though) and I found working when I was pregnant really, really hard (I did also have a toddler to look after but at least I could put the TV on for her for large chunks of time when I felt too unwell or exhausted!). I did a lot of my work in the evenings and I was just too tired. Try and go easy on yourself but I totally understand that if you've got these contracts to fulfill there isn't much you can do, definitely don't worry about house being perfect though Flowers Cake

I need to get out of bed!

Cagliostro · 25/04/2017 08:33

I didn't do baths or tumble drying last night! Fell asleep instead! 😳

Sweepingchange · 25/04/2017 09:07

Hope you are not in too much pain this morning Cag

Crikey Dani sounds as though you have loads on your plate. Will deffo pray! Smile I really admire your ambition though and your determination to fit in good food and exercise! I am also v intrigued about your job now: are you an illustrator/editor??. (Don't say if you don't want to. Utter nosiness on my part. Used to be in the book trade myself a lifetime ago.) Take it steady!!! [Proffers foot-stool]xx

Good luck with the conservatory Mermaid!

Lovely to have a good day out on last day of holidays Cotswold hope return to school not too onerous!

Glad to hear that mornings going better BluePheasant

Good luck returning to work Afreshstart

Waves to Foxes Zoo and everyone else!

Flying a bit intermittent here atm. DD needing a lot of attention currently (she has gone off to school looking white with terrible period pain poor thing) and she is generally quite up and down (hormones and school stress) which can be wearing (but worse for her obviously!!). Dh is exhausted and is coming home early from Germany because he thinks he has a chest infection but is pissed off with himself because he hates letting people down and is terrible at being ill. Me telling him he is only human and no one could sustain the hrs he works without a break does not seem to help Hmm. And I am still ruddy well trying to organise medical appts; spent a large part of yesterday hanging on the phone trying to catch a consultant who skips between various clinics (need to speak to her directly but kept being directed to automatic appt making facility on website).

Flying : too bored with it to even make a list Grin!! But I am going to have to do some ... . House descending in to a pit again.

Think I am going to prep some yummy/healthy food first though to cheer everyone, including myself, up!

Sweepingchange · 25/04/2017 09:09

Actually, I think this is why I am becoming so fat and my house is always a mess.

I prefer cooking to cleaning (largely because you actually have something concrete to show at the end of it).

notgivingin789 · 25/04/2017 10:02

Sorry for asking this question but what is this thread about ?

Sweepingchange · 25/04/2017 10:12

Welcome Notgiving and you may well wonder what it is about Grin Grin!!

It may not be very apparent because it is a long-running thread in which a lot of posters have known one another for a while (which may seem cliquey but really isn't) but it's a thread about housekeeping and organisation; more specifically about the Flylady system here. (In summary, decluttering and doing chores little and often, sticking to various short tried and tested routines so you have time to do more interesting things instead.)

We find the barftastic language of Flylady a bit off-putting and the website is rather disorganised, so one of us posts the daily links and routines each day (this month our esteemed thread leader is Cotswold) and we (in theory!) follow the system that way. With a lot of nattering along the way ... .

Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Sweepingchange · 25/04/2017 10:14

Meant to say, the language of Flylady may be barftastic, but the underlying system is sound and has helped a lot of us who are struggling in various ways ... .

Cagliostro · 25/04/2017 11:01

Basically not we are all just trying to be a little less rubbish at housework :o

OMG DD is in such a foul mood today 😱

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/04/2017 11:32

I've been and weigh in at cafe, trudge Morrison's (had dp help carry heavy fruit n veg bag!yippee)
We are now about to sit and read paper together before lunch

danigrace · 25/04/2017 12:48

Thank you girls.

CotswoldStrife · 25/04/2017 13:34

Afternoon fledglings, so quiet here now with DD back at school Sad I should be getting on with stuff and not just surfing the net We all had a pretty restless night so I think it might be an early night all round tonight here!

Dani that does sound stressful fascinating with the workload - are the deadlines for all three pieces similar as well?

Welcome notgiving, have a look around the thread and the Flylady website for info - we split the house into zones and focus on a zone each week. So, in theory, at least one zone gets declutters (and a detail clean if you have already decluttered, but that's the first priority).

foxes, zoo sorry that your cats have disgraced themselves today!

Cag hope the nausea is not too bad today, I survived on ginger oatcakes at work.

SC hope that Consultant is available ASAP, not what you need right now!

I can't remember if anyone wanted to lead the May thread, if it's not already sorted then I can offer my services to the cause.

Catch you later!

Sweepingchange · 25/04/2017 14:21

Hi Cotswold I am going to tentatively offer my thread-leading services for May. (Fledglings - I will attempt not to ramble and be more exclusively focused on Flying in the upcoming month!!) I am told that everything has been fixed in wreck2 Internet-wise but haven't had time to thoroughly test it out myself yet (will do so this coming Friday as we will be there for long weekend). If I can't post from there on Fri - then I guess it will become apparent - but I am told by dh that it will be fine!

Wow that sounds like a fascinating job Dani!

Sorry to hear about your dd2 feeling rough again Zoo. Has she had her Vit D levels tested? DD has succumbed to endless viruses this year and her Vit D level was found to be 14 (even though she spends loads of time outside - not very sunny here I guess) when the proper levels should be 30-100. Insufficient is classed as under 30 and deficient is classed as under 10.

Dh has arrived home early, feeling rotten, and is taking the afternoon off. We have just had lunch together and actually managed 30 mins conversation uninterrupted by phone calls! Yay! Sounds awful to say it but it is lovely to be able to have a private conversation him without dd there too. Shame it takes the fact that he is ill to achieve this!

This morning have made: lentil carrot casserole dish thing, chicken soup and flapjacks. Might make a loaf cake for dd's study group tomorrow too.

To do:
carry a load of stuff that is upstairs, downstairs
and a load of stuff that is downstairs, upstairs
sort teetering pile of books and papers in play room

mumontherun14 · 25/04/2017 15:02

Hi. Placemarking - working at the moment but definetly need to come back to this. Newbie - here done a bit of Flylady before but fell by the wayside. Need to get myself organised! Thanks for the thread!! xxx

CotswoldStrife · 25/04/2017 15:39

Welcome mumontherun, we've all fallen off the wagon at some time! Lovely to have you with us.

SC your thread leading skillz are superb but if you have a bit too much on at the moment and would prefer not to or you change your mind just let me know!

Off to play with DD, this may be my most productive part of the day!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 25/04/2017 16:06

Managed some home ed today, yay! It's our first proper day back at 'school' as the holidays only ended last week but yesterday we were out. It's not been a bad day all things considered.

Caglets put their clothes away too but it made me decide I need to change (at least temporarily) the way I do laundry. Our tumble dryer is the best thing ever huge, and can therefore easily fit two washloads in. So I tend to do one wash, store it in the dryer while I do the second wash, and shove that in the dryer before switching it on. The problem with this is that I tend to lose energy (it is soooo limited anyway and is even worse ATM) and then not get round to putting the second lot on. By that time more laundry has mounted up so I have to do another wash (but that's two washes because two washes fit in the dryer, so I have to do two). So then the clean stuff all builds up and the Caglets end up with loads to put away in one go. So I've decided to stop drying two loads at once for a bit - I feel bad about wasting the (dryer's) energy, but at least it will dry each load much quicker I guess (the sensor is very good). So I'll do the FlyLady thing for once of doing one complete load in a day - wash dry AND put away. Might save me more sorting too - when there's loads of clean stuff I tend to put it in piles for the Caglets (because I feel guilty about how much there is) but if it's just one little basket they can dig through for their own stuff.

So new routine starting tomorrow hopefully - I put wash in, Caglets transfer to dryer, Caglets take it out of dryer, take out their own stuff and put away, I put mine/DH's away (I have no issues doing his stuff as he does all the washing up :o). Repeat each day... that's the plan...

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/04/2017 16:39

cagsound planSmile
Welcome mum ontherun

I've just walk back from pick up dd2 in what I can only describe as short sharp blizzards.I am cold and annoyed.......

foxessocks · 25/04/2017 16:58

dani your job sounds amazing! I'm a little bit jealous! But do take it easy remember you are growing a new person Smile

Cag sounds like a good plan!

Hope all the poorly children / partners feel better soon. We have been out most of the day today , dh still off work on holiday at the moment and today we had a few hours without the kids in town on our own which was nice. Problem is now we have picked the children up we are feeling a bit can't be bothered where dinner is concerned...Have decided to give dd her favourite for dinner which is just fried eggs and bread and sort something for us later (I'm telling myself I'll make us healthy tuna steaks and stir fry veg but in reality we will probably put a pizza in the oven!) . Food always come first over housework here too!!

Ds is asleep and it's nearly 5pm so I predict a bad bedtime here as he probably won't go to bed until late now.

I've managed to do daily routine but not sure what else I'll get done today. Hopefully a bit of ironing and a bit of exercise too. Can't be bothered to do much more even though bathroom needs a good scrub and there's a layer of dust everywhere Blush it just never ends does it!!?

foxessocks · 25/04/2017 16:59

Ooh cross post zoo maybe I'll just have some of that Cake before I make a start on the ironing pile...

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/04/2017 18:10

Go wild foxes and tbh if you brave ironing you deserve pizza(if has mushroom on one of your 5a dayWink)

Pasta cooking for lil zoo and ds.she's been invited to a friend for dinner tomorrow. Very excited as allergy's don't get many dinner invites.she's getting hummus, grapes and bread sticks on arrival.roast chicken with roasted potatoes cooked in oil, peas, carrots and fruit+oreos for dessertShock

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/04/2017 18:12

Forgot to add sc hope dp feels better soon and ds in less pain tonight.dreading start all that for my girls, periods are painful and unpleasant in my familySad

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/04/2017 18:12

BluePheasant · 25/04/2017 18:39

Yes I agree dani, your job sounds v interesting! But can imagine you do have to put a lot of hours in, good plan with keeping Sundays work free Smile do look after yourself and make sure you aren't pushing yourself too much.

Don't worry mumontherun I fall off the wagon on a weekly basis! Grin

Thanks for the welcome! Loving your lists -very inspiring. Can you remind me what the daily routines are again? I had a look on the site there and tried to sign up for the emails but because I had previously unsubscribed it won't let me. Today I have been working at home with DD 10 who has a chest infection. I have a crazy dog running about with a lampshade collar on recovering from being neutered and my DH away all week. I need to get a bit more organised feel as if all the jobs in the house are getting on top of me. I remember about shining the sink and have done that tonight but is there a link to the other daily routines? Thanks xxxx

Sweepingchange · 25/04/2017 19:24
