Fledglings flapping and flying in February - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/01/2017 10:27

Hello all and welcome to the February Flylady thread! Welcome to all current posters and also to any returners plus of course anyone who would like to join. The more the merrier.

We are a friendly group who (sort of) follow the Flylady system in hopes of a more organised home and life. Some of us manage that better than others Smile.

It's my first time running this thread so here we go with links... Please if anything is wrong feel free to correct me. Hopefully it will all go swimmingly this month but I apologise in advance for anything not slick! I'm starting a day early as have work tomorrow and I am slow at this but will try to stay on the old thread until tomorrow. Thanks so much for doing the December and January threads Cotsowold.

We are in zone 5 for the first few days of the month.

Flylady advises decluttering for 15 mins a day. I tend to manage 5 but I know lots of people have great results with 15.

I can't figure out how to post the individual missions (I will get better, I hope!) so as a treat here is the sneak peak for the rest of the week which has all the missions www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

Feb 1st's mission is to clean our vents!!

If you have already decluttered then you could start some detailed cleaning www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-5/

For a summary of what's going on, go to www.flylady.net/c/lp.php or just follow this thread Smile. Sometimes the Flylady website takes a little while to catch up on a new month.

Newbies, welcome, have a look around the Flylady website - it can sometimes be a bit disorganised. Unless you want to, beware of signing up for her emails - there are hundreds and all the info is on the website anyway. Here is the getting started link [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

I'll post the baby step and Wednesday's daily focus next.

I don't really like having people over TBH because our house is so tiny and dark and messy. Blush I've had to get used to it because of having pupils so it's getting easier but still I wouldn't invite people socially much. The dream is to have a bigger place where we can host game nights etc but at the moment we don't even have a sofa!

Cagliostro · 26/02/2017 22:46

Wanted to say thanks for all the flykids missions by the way. I've been far too disorganised to do that or anything really with the Caglets this month, do they just repeat each month? I may make that a March thing. They struggle with a general 'tidy your room!' but specific missions like this would be good for them.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/02/2017 22:52

Cag, no idea if they repeat as I just chucked them in on the spur of the moment. Will let you know next month! Shamefully I have never got round to using them for my kids. Might try tomorrow - you have inspired me Smile.

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 26/02/2017 23:00

Thinking about it they definitely repeat as I have seen a few before but I'm not sure if there is a pattern to them.

foxessocks · 27/02/2017 09:45

Definitely depends on the visitors for me! Love friends coming over. Family is generally ok depending who it is and how long they're staying!! Some of our family have a tendancy to turn up at children's bedtime and then get a bit miffed when they only see children for five minutes looking at you mother in law .

Ta da
DD breakfast and off to nursery
Dishwasher on
Rubbish out, bin out for bin day
Washing folded, some washing hung up
Some toys put away

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2017 09:58

Morning all.

I had a fairly busy weekend, mostly with nice stuff and I'm on a go slow this morning. I'm hoping a coffee will get me moving. Where's the pointy stick?!

I'm in the "love having people over" camp with the caveat that the house is already tidy and they're laid back. We've got friends coming for the weekend in three weeks and I really want to get some wall painting done. Definitely not today though!

Sorry to be completely AWOL again yesterday, the pointy stick of motivation has certainly worked today though! Loads of laundry and ironing!

I'm putting it down to the pointy stick and not staying off the internet during the day, does make this thread hard to catch up with though resolves to read it later

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/02/2017 16:47

Hello all,

Ta da:-
Few bits from shop
Some laundry
Dishwasher under control
Tea cooking
School run
5 mins decluttering
Went for run
DD1 has written some birthday cards badly but it feels wrong to force her to do it again Confused
Managed to damage one of DD1's plants she is growing for school and had to confess to the teacher Sad
Sent a couple of work emails

To do:-
DD1 homework or reading - she is very reluctant today
Tea
Evening routine
Put cards in envelopes and put away
Bit more tidying of birthday presents

I tried to encourage the Flykids mission. DD2 showed no interest and DD1 said she didn't have any clothes on the floor of her wardrobe (true) and didn't have anything she wanted to give away Grin.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 27/02/2017 19:22

Ta das
Dinner cooked and kitchen tidied
Children bathed and almost (!!) in bed
Tidied living room
Emptied nappy bin and bathroom bin
Some ironing and clothes put away
Declutter in living room (decluttered toy kitchen!!)
Took some bottles to bottle bank
And best of all - picked up glasses!! Weren't as long as they thought (maybe they wrote down that I sounded pissed off!). It is bliss to be sitting here without dry and tired eyes and I can see the TV properly!
And despite failing to go to baby group in the morning we all went to a new one in the afternoon instead.

Such a busy day I'm totally worn out.

Toostressy love your kids response to the fly kids mission Grin. There is no chance my dd would ever agree to get rid of anything, I have to hide the toys for the charity bag and take them while she is at nursery. Mean but otherwise we'd have no space whatsoever!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/02/2017 22:16

Ta da
Evening routine
Some semblance of before bed routine - not perfect but ok
Did some play doh tidying as DD2 got some more kit for her birthday
Calendar check

To do:-
Sort out a double booked party Confused
Watch telly

foxes, yes, they didn't embrace the decluttering! DD2 does sometimes want to give things away but DD1 likes to cling on to them. Fab news about glasses Smile. Your eyes must be so relieved.

Great lists foxes, zoo and Afresh. Cotswold, glad you got lots done, nothing to do with avoiding internet I'm sure Grin.

Purple , I think you have summed it up with having people over if house tidy and they are laid back. Very true.

Big wing flaps to Cag, Mercury, SC, mermaids and everyone else. Links to follow...

Here is the daily summary for Tuesday...

All information also available on the Flylady website www.flylady.net. The

flight plan
should update every day.

We are in Zone 5 this week: the living room

Spend 15 mins (or what you can manage) decluttering in zone 5.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here

The mission for today is: This week, we are in Zone 5, the Living Room/Family Room for two days.
For today put out the fires that are burning in your hotspots and flat surfaces. Put away what needs to be put away and toss what needs to be tossed. Set your timer for 15 minutes and go, go, GO! You can do anything for 15 minutes

The daily focus for Tuesday is: planning. Must try to look at this!

The monthly habit for February is to declutter for 15 mins a day which is a brilliant habit!

Daily reminders:
reminders

Lots of babysteps as I put the wrong one on yesterday and tomorrow is the last day of Feb:
Baby-step no 27 - what’s for dinner – menu planning

Baby-step no 28 - take care of yourself

Baby-step no 29 - schedule some ‘you’ time, possibly with one of the Flylady pamper missions

Baby-step no 30 - look ahead on your calendar for upcoming birthdays

Baby-step no 31 - think about signing up for the individual emails (as there can be quite a lot of them, we would advise caution!)

Flykids mission seems to be the same as yesterday:
www.flylady.net/c/flykids.php?tzm=0

Happy flying. I'll start a new thread at some point tomorrow evening for March.

Afreshstartplease · 28/02/2017 06:58

Morning all

Yesterday I managed to spend about an hour on our bedroom. It looks much better now. I ......

Changed the bedding
Emptied the bin
Tidied dps mess
Put away all clothes
Wiped the surfaces
Hoovered

It's one of the rooms that's fairly easy to maintain once it's been done so I'll spend five mins on it after and aim to not let it slip into chaos.

I might try and spend an hour on one of the dcs rooms after although they are not so easily maintained as my three year old is a bit of a tornado.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 28/02/2017 10:06

Morning all,

Ta da:-
Morning routine
Been to shop

To do:-
Put away shopping
Exercise DVD
Look at some work if I get a chance
Make pancake batter with DD2- even though it seems I am the only one who actually wants pancakes Angry. I love them though so we are making them Smile.
Go to bank
Figure out what I can serve with pancakes for tea for those who don't want them.
School meeting so possibly library after school to kill time before the meeting

Later:-
Decluttering
Work prep if didn't do any earlier
Online food shop
Sort out party clash as forgot to do it yesterday

Morning all x
Worked a long arsed shift yesterday so didn't get a lot done so on it today. Going to tackle upstairs today hopefully will be back later

Cagliostro · 28/02/2017 11:21

Morning everyone. I woke up quite early today as the others were up getting ready for the aquarium (home ed trip). I'm going to have a gentle wander and lunch ON MY OWN - bliss in town in a bit, but so far I've been alternating rest with a little tidying in the living room as I have pupils this week possibly including one who has never been here before - I always went to them, to their lovely big TIDY house, but we've had to change it as I can't manage walking there really. Eek!

It leads me to ask for some advice. DUST. Oh god the dust is horrendous, really fluffing horrendous. I am always amazed at people who only need to vacuum once a week - HOW?! We have to once a day absolute minimum. But things like the piano - which needless to say is now my main source of income so I can't have it looking gross - is just an absolute dust magnet. My laptop too, doesn't matter how often I wipe it, dust just instantly congregates.

I am a total numpty when it comes to household stuff, what do I need to lessen this dust issue? Damp wiping works better than dry right? But do I need to use some kind of polish/spray stuff? I really hate using chemicals like that as I'm super sensitive to the smell. But at my limit with the damn dust. Any advice would be most welcome!
