Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone, 祝来年好运,并取得更大的成就。 — “Good luck and great success in the coming new year.”

Mini Cotswold is still poorly, but feeling a bit better thanks. She has skipped her usual class this morning but has something on tomorrow afternoon - will have to see if she's well enough to go. She has a busy afternoon of game playing planned for us both!

DH is currently hammering at tiles in the kitchen, in an effort to replace the front of a plug socket with one that has a USB charger point in it. The tile just overhangs the box slightly! Bring on the dust.

Not much else happening, will attempt to lightly tidy when not chained to game console!

Another chinese quote to finish - “Don’t waste your hour — the sun sets soon.”

Cag are you short of a figure for the return? Can you put in an estimate and then let them know later if it is wildly different?

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 28/01/2017 14:11

I did that last year, submitted it with some information missing then went back later and put it in. DH hasn't started his yet, last time he left it till the 31st, realised he'd lost his password and got fined Angry

Cagliostro · 28/01/2017 15:17

It's not the figures it's the registration bit I fucked up! I genuinely thought I'd done that bit and could just log in. Brain fog SUCKS.

Still, I've phoned them, and done more of my PIP form and stuff like that. So not a totally awful day.

CotswoldStrife · 28/01/2017 15:30

It's a seven day wait for one number/passcode and a complicated process I admit. But you still need to get that bit, you will probably get a fine (it's an automated process nowadays unfortunately) but you will have 3 months to submit it before any further fines are issues.

Have you previously notified them that you need to complete a tax return, it sounds like your first year doing an online return if you don't have that activation code thingy

Hi all
As I've none naff all in zone this week today I've done all applicable missions, plus wash floor in boudoir

Also wash paw printmuddy hall and living room floor (also kitty coated)
Wipe front door as cat let's self in leaving muddy marks where jumps st handle and slides down
Can cats wear wellies (and take them off when let selves in?)

Cagliostro · 28/01/2017 16:14

Yes it's my first time, I registered my business last year. I've been told I can appeal the fine as it was disability that made it difficult (memory issues etc) - the HMRC person I spoke to seemed to think that was worth a try as I explained brain fog etc. However if it doesn't work I'll take it on the chin and remind myself sternly of this next time! Unlike my Dad who I'm pretty certain got a late fine every year, I'll make sure I actually learn from this mistake.

How early can you do a tax return - can you do it as soon as the financial year ends? I'm wondering if on April 1st 2017 I can get this one done and out of the way if I have all my figures (after all it's not much)

Cagliostro · 28/01/2017 17:31

Aww Zoo a literal puss in boots! I am thinking it's not a winning plan though, as when I googled, this photo came up and the cat doesn't look too chuffed. :o

CotswoldStrife · 28/01/2017 17:43

They used to send me emails (I think I must have opted for email communication somewhere along the line) reminding me that it was due. I can't remember when the system opens. You can certainly get the figures together when the financial year ends. Before the days of the t'internet I have posted them through the door of the tax office! HMRC have always been really helpful when I've spoken to them.

Still no flying, I am getting a bit snuffly myself now so having lots of echinacea and vitamins to try and fight off the cold I seem to be going down with.

Very little flying done today, soz! Looking forward to my tea and a hot toddy tonight!

I've just spent the last 5 hours degunging my kitchen, its beautifully clean, although I'm a bit concerned that with me starting my new job on monday, i'm going to be really slow, its taken me 5 hours just on my kitchen I'm supposed to do whole houses in 4 or less Hmm

I'm feeling knackered now and I still have the lounge to tackle.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2017 18:20

I've had a trip to the seaside which was bloody freezing but nice. The only useful thing I've done is buy some meat and vegetables which dh is using to cook dinner. I'm finding it very hard not to go into the kitchen and interfere.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2017 18:25

cag that cat picture is excellent!
scuttl I'm envious of your sparking kitchen. I'm sure it'll be different in other people's houses. You won't have to put away any of the stuff that randomly happens to be in the kitchen but shouldn't be (if yours is anything like mine!) for a start
cotswold I hope you manage to avoid the bug
zoo your cat sounds a legend, even if they are a pain with the muddy paw prints
fool enjoy your new furniture-it sounds like you did an incredible job getting everything sorted out

Waves to everyone else!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 28/01/2017 18:29

thats true, i found countless books and tools that dont belong, I'm having a break and dinner and then hitting the living room, might even get the scuttlets on board

Cagliostro · 28/01/2017 19:21

I guess the difference is you are being paid to clean, not clean AND tidy. :)

Cagliostro · 28/01/2017 19:24

I've achieved nothing really apart from a bit of form filling etc. I feel in limbo - lots of news we are waiting for that could seriously change everything (nothing bad, just big!), and I can't relax at all until we know what's happening.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 28/01/2017 19:41

I'm back, losing the will to live dp has done his usual, "I'll just dump the massive pile of clean washing on the only space left on the sofa as the other sofa has neatly folded piles of washing on it, which I wont add to" Which ds3 has done his usual "oooohhh pile of clean washing, I'll just roll all over it and knock it on the floor while mum's busy in the kitchen and can't tell me off"

Of course the two times I've walked into the pigsty I've let out an exasperated sigh, and dp keeps asking whats up.

I really don't want to be cleaning all day at work and then coming home to tidy and clean the whole house again, so I want to get it out of the way now, with decluttering so there is minimal damage when I'm working.

The good thing is there maybe a few tricks of the trade which means I'll be able to get home done more efficiently, If I do find any gems I'll let you all know Grin

I'm really feeling the lazy boy syndrome today though, dp's cleaned the cars and popped to the shops and generally stayed out of my way, ds2 has been at his friends all day so hes been out of my way but just asked ds's if they were up for helping me in the lounge and its like getting blood out of a stone.

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/01/2017 19:54

Living room wasn't as bad as expected, dp helped.

Managed to watch the voice, snakes on a plane and now I'm watching obsessive cleaners Grin feeling much better about my squallor now.

Afreshstartplease · 29/01/2017 07:31

Afreshstartplease · 29/01/2017 14:39

Very quiet on here today!

We were out doing things this morning but home for the rest of the day now so will crack on

Dcs homework is half done
First wash in dryer
Second wash waiting for dryer
Pots and bottles all washed
Bins empty

CotswoldStrife · 29/01/2017 14:44

Still the house of tissues here, DH has been really good running to the shops to get supplies!

DD has missed all her weekend activities so far, and may miss out on another one today - I'm not even sure she'll be well enough for school tomorrow, whatever this cold thing is, it's a toughie. I'm a bit sniffly myself but not as bad as her.

Ah well, will try and keep on top of the rubbish and the essentials (bit sad the kitchen is not as good as it has been all week) and press on. Can't believe there are only a couple of days of January left already!
