Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Argh, that was for Foxes (emboldening fail)

knittingwithnettles · 27/01/2017 09:56

can I sneak in this morning and hang my head with shame?
I had some people to supper last night and this morning..well this morning I feel like I didn't sleep a wink..went to bed at 1am and woke at 6.30 to get dd off to school.

Surrounded by mess, and feel utterly shattered by crap middle aged sleep - one tinsy glass of alcohol has wrecked it.

Had some good plans for today, but feel less than positive.

However, SC it will get better, the teen tantrums I promise. Often PMT is particularily horrendous at that age, partly because you don't realise it IS PMT, and they don't either.. Mine were sweet last night, apart from one terrible scene when dd accused me of being weird because I gone up to a friend of hers when she was 11 (this is 4 years ago) and offered her some secondhand trainers (very expensive ones that dd had outgrown in about a month I may say, not just any secondhand trainers [grrr])

I reminded dd that all mothers are weird, that is the way they are. Put on this earth to embarass you Wink

Ds1 went out and bought crisps and soft drinks for my guests when I asked him to, very touched he is so biddable in this respect, if not in any others!!

Did some running yesterday, and some entertaining. That is a plus. But why then does everything go pearshaped so quickly - my attempts to kickstart my life always seem to scupper some other aspect of existence, in this case ORDER!!

Sweepingchange · 27/01/2017 10:27

Brew for Knitting

Bloomin'' eck woman, you aren't half hard on yourself!

You are madly decluttering/raising three teens/ have entertained friends (which they obviously thoroughly enjoyed if they stayed so late) and you have now started running! I think you more than deserve half a glass of wine or five after all that!

Congrats on the running btw - I could no more run than fly - so am seriously impressed by those that can and do!

Entertaining mid week in term time is a bit of a killer though I agree. Can you give yourself a quieter day? Bit of a nap with a good bk after lunch?

You have made a thoroughly explosive start to the NY (I never get going on NY resolutions/projects until the beginning of February) and you deserve a relaxing weekend w/e doing some things for yourself for a change Flowers

So grateful to know that the teen tantrums will diminish. I just feel a bit crap about the whole thing ATM (even when I try to be supportive I seem to say the wrong thing) and can't believe how totally draining it is (which I know sounds wimpish with one child).

On a positive note; dh will be returning this afternoon thank heavens, DD is off out with a load of friends this weekend, and I am looking forward to some rural walks ... ( not so looking forward to meeting a real life mole catcher Sad) ...Which should blow the cobwebs away!!

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend as humanly possible!

CotswoldStrife · 27/01/2017 13:20

DD off school poorly today, I could see she was going down with a cold yesterday as she was sneezing a lot but it really kicked in last night. Hopefully a quiet day will see the worst of it off.

Just read a massive thread on here about the Instant Pot electric pressure cooker - hmm, would I use it and where would it go in our rather small kitchen here. It is on offer at Costco this month.

Never too late for resolutions, it's Chinese New Year this weekend if anyone wants a good reason to do a few more!

Back later!

Got your email, thanks Cotswold. Will re-read your stuff too SC Does anyone mind if I put a few practise posts on here later tonight? Never done links or anything before.

foxessocks · 27/01/2017 14:28

Fine by me toostressy

Ta das
Decluttered make up box
Decluttered jewellery box
Decluttered hair stuff box
Done all the daily routine stuff
Made lunch for me and dd
Food shopping online
Meal plan

We are watching Thomas DVD AGAIN driving me a little loopy. Ds asleep on my lap so I'm going to stay put for a while. I may attempt some dusting or hoovering later and need to sort some more photos for my album. I'd also like to actually make some time to read my book or something!

knittingwithnettles · 27/01/2017 14:30

zoo my cat the same. Slept all night on my bed as dh away, and the oddest water habits: will drink from jug on the table (eeugh) but put same jug on the floor and will refuse to show any interest, climbs into the basin to drink from tap, and will not drink same water from freshest china bowl (and large bowl though because I know he doesn't like his whiskers brushing against smaller sort)

tried to sleep, but no use. Now surveying the last of the curtains to be sewn. The ones that have taken me 8 years.

knittingwithnettles · 27/01/2017 14:36

SC . Re-reading "Get out of My Life But First Take Me and Alex into Town" about teenage brains - quite heartening. I read it the first time I think my teenagers were the tween stage and it didn't quite make sense, now it is spot on about how not to wind them up or argue the toss with them or tell them what their responsibilities are Confused....There's a touching anecdote about shovelling snow Smile which made no sense when I first read it, as the thought of any of my kids being asked to shovel snow and succeeding was just Biscuit

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/01/2017 14:57

Glad zoocat is at least entertaining if driving me nuttier
He has disgraced himself sneaking into my bed AGAIN and put outside in the cold
Tadas
2loads wash dry ,fold n out away
Liv floor wash
Dining table clear n scrubbed
Coffee table clear n polish
Kitchen floor scrubbed

When zoolets get in it's "bag night" so school bags will be emptied and sorted(this is soo working for us,no Monday morning leaky lunch surprises in my house.no siree Bob!!Grin)

Sweepingchange · 27/01/2017 14:59

Thanks Knitting I have the book and deffo need to read it on a more regular basis. I agree it's very good. Grin at your cat's drinking habits. If it's any consolation, I still have fabric which was supposed to be made up in to curtains for a flat we lived in over 15 yrs ago. Blush

Practice away Afreshstart, I won't be around to answer qs this w/e but back Mon and I 'm sure others will help out. Very good of you to volunteer to lead the thread in Feb when you have so much going on! Flowers

Flowers Cotswold you have done a bloody brilliant job of running Dec and Jan threads! Flowers

Speaking of thread-leading, I'm going to be taking a break from Mumsnet during Feb to focus on other things but will be back to run the thread in March (but won't be back right until the last day of Feb ifyswim).

Cotswold must admit I find the idea of a pressure cooker more appealing than a slow cooker but don't have either - like you have no kitchen storage space.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 27/01/2017 15:15

I have a wierd drinking cat, for years she has only ever drunk from a dripping tap or clean fresh glass of water. But now she shares the dogs water, with the other cat, who both hate the dog, who gets a little bit jealous of the cats drinking her water and will whine at them. They ignore her.

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/01/2017 18:42

Zoolets bags are sorted, they are tucking into fish fingers and mash, with pepper and cucumber sticks.
Mushroom and green bean risotto gently blipping away fir me(waiting to bd generously anointed with cheese.slurp)broccoli, spinach and squash soup nearly ready fir dd2 (who STILL has sore throatSad)if antihistines aren't help by Monday its back gp.all her bloods were OK.I at a total loss cept keep feeding soup with cheese, mash with hummus, yogurt and fruit puree with ground almonds, ready brek/oatbix and was milk(sigh)she's been at school all week, but comes in a growling, crying limp rag
Right lil zoo begging something else so much dash, have good evening everyone. Xx

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 18:50

Baby step no 1 shine your sink

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 18:51

Ugh. Didn't work. Will try again later. Zoo, sometimes after not eating proper food for a while it can feel a bit 'funny' - it it that going on? Or is her throat actually sore all the time, not just eating? Definitely if anti histamines not working go back to GP. Hi to everyone else.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:02

your sink

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:03

Anyone got any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Grin. I just copied and pasted the link for the first babystep that Cotswold gave me as a test. Sorry for multiple posts!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:16

shine your sink

CotswoldStrife · 27/01/2017 19:41

Stressy, they have all worked! You can preview the posting before 'post'ing it, and the links will work in the preview if you want to check them!

Just going to read the thread for today. DD is pretty poorly, gone through one box of tissues already despite calpol and nose drops. One eye is very red and swollen because it's been watering all day too. Poor thing!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:48

Lol, that will save this thread some posts! When I click them (on my phone, our computer is terrible) it won't open the page?! Do they work for other people?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:48

Sorry to add yet another post but hope your DD feels better soon Cotswold

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 19:50

The links aren't working for me on my mobile. I've no idea why not. Sorry!
