Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Actually, I think there's a rogue dot at the start of the website...

Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:53

Yes I don't understand the dot???! Bet you are all filled with confidence for February now Grin. Off to cook tea while DH puts DD to bed then have to get back to study. Back later for another go. Thanks in advance for everyone's patience!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 19:55

shine your sink.

OK this is working for me, had missed out // somewhere in link somehow. Does it work for everyone else?

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 19:56

Yay! It's working for me too.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 20:03

Woohoo thanks Purple

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 27/01/2017 20:41

Not much done in the scuttle household, been out visiting friends and my nan today, then came home, collected ds2 from school, had to cook tea early for dp earlier shift, and ds1-going to his dads.

Had a quick gander on fb to find that sil had nominated me to crochet little octopus' for preemies, of course there was a cute picture of an adorable prem baby gripping on to an octopus arm, so I felt I needed to do one out of yarn to see how long they take and whether I can do them, before I order the cotton yarn needed for them, they crochet up in around 2 hours so could do at least one in the evenings to stop me munching on crap. Also sil is happy. Yarn is ordered, and they are quite cute.

Going to do a few 5 min rescues and sort out laundry tonight, then on to konmari'ing the lounge tomorrow. Cant wait, it'll be the last big room to do.

CotswoldStrife · 27/01/2017 20:45

I didn't actually click on them, but they are blue like links so assumed they were right! Fabulous work, post as many as you like!

SC we'll miss you in February and if plans change just let us know for March.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 20:49

Where's your octopus pattern from scuttl? I've got three friends having babies in March and I'm only three quarters of the way through a blanket for the first one. It sounds lovely!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 27/01/2017 21:08

its a link on faebook I'll see if i can find it.

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 27/01/2017 21:10

octopus pattern

Cagliostro · 27/01/2017 21:10

Hi all :)

You'll get there on the links, don't worry. None of us will be coming at you with pitchforks if it goes wrong either! :o

Had a lovely day here. Bit of work in the morning then we went to a friend's house for a play and ended up staying for tea. Tried to run the Caglets a bath in the evening though, no hot water... grrr!

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 27/01/2017 21:19

I had 3 nieces and a step granddaughter and a step grandson born in one year about 3 years back, needless to say I was very thankful for chunky yarn and granny squares that year.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 27/01/2017 21:23

Just popping in to say I am still lurking if not posting very much. Cotswold - I bought an Instant Pot on Black Friday and love it, it's far more versatile thsn my old slowcooker. Could do with a spare pot though and they're not cheap.

Flying is going ok, I rearranged my morning routine at Christmas and all of a sudden I have a 20 min housework slot in between DC1 and DC2 leaving for school with the added bonus of the DCs keeping apart and not arguing. It will all change again when DC2 goes to secondary school lster in the year but for now it's working really well.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 22:07

Fantastic-thanks scuttl that pattern is adorable. I had grand plans for doing all sorts but I haven't started early enough so quick and cute is perfect.

You will notice I haven't mentioned any cleaning today...I will take myself off to the naughty corner and start again tomorrow.

CotswoldStrife · 27/01/2017 22:19

Agree with what Cagliostro said about the links - think of all the ones I've posted and I didn't even notice that the ones you posted may not work! We are all human and there's a reason we have a well-stocked naughty corner and why I got the cake cutting question on QI just now right !

Not much flying done here either, DD looks a bit worse tonight but has gone to sleep and hopefully she'll improve tomorrow. Unfortunately, she has inherited my ability to have a nose that runs constantly during a cold. I've got a couple of mouth ulcers at the moment which is a sure sign I'm run down.

Well, this wine glass won't fill itself - I'll throw some links your way shortly! January has been a blast on this thread!

CotswoldStrife · 27/01/2017 22:33

Links - I have just realised that the link to the monthly habit wasn't working probably. Good job I noticed in plenty of time four days to go Blush Of course you all already knew that but were too polite to say to ...

The daily summary for Saturday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day.

Baby-step no 28 - take care of yourself

No zone work or missions at the weekends – woo hoo, enjoy!

The daily focus for Saturday is: family fun day

foxessocks · 27/01/2017 22:47

There's a monthly habit?! Grin in all seriousness I tend to check the missions and the zone and detail work and they have all been working fine!

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2017 22:50

Me too foxes. I've actually been vaguely doing flylady for long enough that I've seen all the habits before, some more than once. I don't do the sink one (due to horrible sink that won't shine) but I like some of the others. Getting dressed, meal planning and bedtime routine are all really helpful to me.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/01/2017 23:26

Thanks all! Glad there won't be pitchforks Cag. TBH I am rubbish at clicking on the links normally Blush so wouldn't notice if they worked or not.

Just taking 5 min break from assignment to get some Brew. All the stuff has to be uploaded onto a computer system and this bit is mind numbingly boring and sooooo time consuming Angry.

Afreshstartplease · 28/01/2017 07:33

Well done on the links Cotswold

Those octopuses are so cute! I wish I was creative but I can't make anything except babies

Well I left the house a tip last night and it's now massively depressing!

Cagliostro · 28/01/2017 09:12

It's always tits up here TBH!

I've royally fucked up the tax return process and now it won't get done on time and I'll have to pay a fine!

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/01/2017 10:57

sc hope Feb is productive for you.

toostressy I'm sure you will be fine. Smile

I have hardly been on this thread and flying has been intermittent too. We got some new living room furniture last weekend, beautiful but much smaller and therefore with a whole lot less capacity. All week books, papers, and other stuff has been spread on the living room while I've been staring at it thinking where am I going to put this stuff?

It took me 2.5 hours to tackle it last night. 1 very full bin bag of paper (mostly Smartlet's handiwork) later, it's all been sorted. Oh the sweet relief. And that's after Kondoing thoroughly 2 summers ago and a light Kondoing last summer. Smartlet is a demon for writing, drawing and scribbling.

Because of the mess I felt that I couldn't ask Smartlet to tidy up and the open plan living room was a mess. But it's back to normal and it just feels lovely.

Ta-da's between DP and me:
Hoover whole house
Load of washing hanging up
Another load just finished
Dusted downstairs
Kitchen swept
Smartlet swimming, then bathed

To do
Clean bathroom
Make pancakes for Smartlet
Put wash away
Put 2nd load of washing out.
Buy envelopes
Get set of front door keys cut
