She's back! DH loathes it, but I love the Anthea Turner: Perfect Housewife programme - it's on BBC Three on Thursday 8-9pm.

I've had a go at the towel technique but it is the t-shirt folding that has really got me going!
My house is still a midden, though, it just has a few nicely-folder t-shirts lying around the place

themoon66 · 19/08/2006 22:53

that t-shirt folding video is bloody amazing. How come i do it and end up with a strange mess?? I must be missing a bit.

notasheep · 19/08/2006 23:00

but has she had any children yet?

themoon66 · 19/08/2006 23:08

Did i read somewhere a long time ago that Anthea couldn't have children? WAsn't there some tragedy or something? Did she suffer miscarriages? I can't remember the details, but if it's so then poor her

notasheep · 19/08/2006 23:11

so thats why she has all that time to be an obsessive compulsive

themoon66 · 19/08/2006 23:15

She gets paid a damn sight more than I do for being obsessive-compulsive

Kaloo20 · 21/08/2006 09:47

watched the repeat of the t-shirt folding one on BBC3 at 8.00pm last night (with dd who should have been in bed) and dh.

I'm hooked and so is dd 7 who wanted to start cleaning and t-shirt folding immediately (and our house already looks more like the after than before). In fact she announced she is spending today sorting out her wardrobe and getting all the hangers in order!

Is she Antheas youngest devotee ? She's already asked to watch it next week

futurity · 21/08/2006 09:50

I just can't get the hang of the t-shirt folding thing..I can do the pinching bit and first fold but then it just doesn't work! I blame it on me being left handed (pathetic excuse!)

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 10:12

Me neither, but then my DH is terrible for rummaging around and messing up his drawers so I roll all his t shirts, boxers etc and lie them side by side in the drawer so he can see them all at a glance.
After the last series we did invest in wooden coathangers and I love them, I left the wardrobe door open all day so I could admire it's neatness.LOL

Kaloo20 · 21/08/2006 11:31

I had trouble with the t-shirt thing too and also blamed it on being left handed. dd is right handed and did it perfectly first time

futurity · 21/08/2006 12:01

so what's the trick then Kaloo20 for us left-handed ones!?

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 12:07

Could you not just do it the other way round? iyswim?

hotmama · 21/08/2006 12:09

I watched AT last week for the first time ever. Will def be watching the new series.

Dp was watching it and was mesmorised by the T-shirt thing - in fact he taped it so he could watch in slow motion!

DP is left-handed and can do it no problem - in fact he has been showing off all weekend to anyone who will watch him do it.

In fact, DP even did the ironing and said the t-shirt thing is soooo much easier if the t-shirts are warm - how sad is that!

futurity · 21/08/2006 12:52

OK...it's just me...can't blame being left handed...I will have to watch it again and give it a go!

Kaloo20 · 21/08/2006 12:59

I will try again tonight, if I can find any unfoled t-shirts in the house !

AvaLou · 21/08/2006 14:19

ooh get you.
you must be mega-organised.
I have tshirts in the wet laundry bag waiting until the rain stops so I can hang them out, tshirts in the ironing basket and some amongst other crap in my 'to put away' basket on the hall table.

Jantubb · 21/08/2006 22:07

You guys have got me going!! LOL Set the prog to series link on Sky plus and cant wait for Thurs!!

Can't suss the towels but LOVE the Tshirt fold.. gonna try this now!!

Avalou (shhh) during the summer holidays we have a cleaner because the children make more mess than I can cope with in the house. We have someone looking after the children whilst we are working, but I can't expect them to do the housework too (see nanny threads for my strong stance on not expecting a nanny to do more than you would do yourself)

Plus DH is sick of spending all day Saturday cleaning (between us) our temp Polish girl so damn good I'm gonna be devestated when she goes - she is my very own Anthea

  • if I now admit that that sheets and adult ironing go to outside service you'll wonder why I even watch Anthea. I guess I'm just on my very own summer holiday. All housework / daily duteis and school runs resume on Sept 6th.
MadamePlatypus · 22/08/2006 13:26

Aha, so you fold the fitted sheet to hide the elastic bits - I have never really tried to do that (although I suppose it is the same technique as with towels). I expect you have to iron the fitted sheet first though to make it look really good...

Ladymuck · 22/08/2006 13:38

No, Anthea makes you throw out fitted sheets. You can then get proper cotton ones and fold them instead.

2plus2plus1 · 22/08/2006 15:04

Looked at this yesterday & wondered WTF you were talking about. Checked out the video clip out of curiosity (I hang all my T-shirts). I spent the morning folding all my T-shirts which I will later hang!!!

I fold my towels so they will fit in the airing cupboard. Am I missing something here too? Is there a video of this?

Imafairy · 24/08/2006 11:28

It's all very well knowing how to fold fitted sheets, but how the hell do you iron them? (I do a very halfhearted effort of ironing the 'flat' bit on the guest sheets, but I don't iron any others, on the basis that the wrinkles will fall out

sorkycake · 24/08/2006 17:07

I can never get rid of the smell of curry that seems to pervade the house if Dh cooks it, so today I got a little bowl of bicarbonate o' soda and shook a few drops of essential oil in it. It's been stood in the centre of the house for 30mins and I can now smell a delightful fragrance wafting round my house. No chemical sprays or nasty plug-ins required!!

I bow to the fragrant one!

Can't wait for tonight...and I don't care how sad anyone thinks I am. This is my new show and it indulges my one and only vice of neatness.

UCM · 24/08/2006 19:36

Ahem, Girls, 25 minutes and it's on.
