Feeling a bit like a failure today! I struggle with the every day stuff like keeping up with washing up, and laundry. Not brilliant at cooking either!Sad

I have been trying to do the baby steps for FlyLady but not sure It's working for me although some days I do the timer thing and that helps.
I have a toddler and an older dc, Not blaming them for the mess, I just find it all hard some days.

For apple sponge, put eating apples in bottom of dish and make mix without cocoa powder and with 8oz flour instead of 6oz. Gorgeous!

BoffinMum · 03/10/2011 18:43

Grate courgettes, fry them in crushed garlic, cool and freeze in dollops on a tray wrapped in foil, then decant into a freezer bag. Refry them from frozen later in the year.

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 18:43

its none of your business

arf

BoffinMum · 03/10/2011 18:43

Or hollow out courgettes, fill with bolognaise sauce and bake topped with cheese.

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 18:43

wash up daily is an AIM?
shit - what do you do all day?

notso · 03/10/2011 18:46

I am after anything that isn't courgette and feta soup again thereisalightanditnevergoesout!

AutumnHues poor you. I have a bit of a mean approach to meals they have three chances to sit and eat and after that mealtime is over.
Can fully empathise about the homework, DS1 hates doing his.

DS2 started crawling this weekend, he has wrecked my front room in the time it took me to go for a wee! I am going to have to get rid of the coffee table and the baskets under it which I use to shove crap in.

AutumnHues · 03/10/2011 18:56

notso it's hard work when they start getting into everything (when they start crawling) isn't it. I remember having to move stuff out of the way.
How old is your DS1?
Mine has just turned 8 years.

notso · 03/10/2011 19:06

Mine is just 7, he has found it really hard to settle into the juniors. This is where the foundation phase needs work, he was totally unprepared for the workload.

AutumnHues · 03/10/2011 19:13

notso that sounds the same as my ds. He has just started juniors too.

I am going to see his teacher later in the week. I don't know how to handle his lack of motivation, DD has always been so keen to please the teachers she just gets on with things.

notso · 03/10/2011 19:25

Right off to put DS2 to bed, and sit down with a cuppa this is my worst time of day for morning anytimesickness.

AutumnHues · 03/10/2011 19:41

Think I'll join you with that brewBrew

Here's a recipe for American Vanilla cupcakes, taken from Red Velvet and Chocolate Heartache by Harry Eastwood:

American Vanilla Cupcakes
? Preheat the oven to 180ËšC and arrange 12 cupcake cases in a muffin tray.
? Whisk 2 Eggs with 160g Sugar in a large bowl until light and pale. Briefly whisk in 300g topped, tailed, peeled and finely grated Courgette.
? Add half 180g White Rice Flour (I used plain), 2 tsp Baking Powder, ¼ tsp Salt and whisk for 20 seconds. Add the remaining flour and 1 tsp Vanilla Extract and whisk.
? Spoon the mixture into the cases, filling almost to the top and cook for 30 minutes.
? Cool and then ice with the Vanilla Snow Meringue Icing, see below.

Snow Meringue Icing
? In a bain marie place 170g icing sugar, 2 tbsp Water, ¼ tsp Cream of Tartar, 1 Egg White, the seeds of 1 Vanilla Pod and a pinch of salt. Stir for 2 minutes for the sugar to dissolve.
? When warm, remove from the heat and beat with an electric mixer for about 5-10 minutes until cook and it stands up in peaks.

I haven't made these - but I have made others (with lavender) from the book and they were lovely. I'd probably do buttercream icing as that one sounds a bit of a faff unless it's a special occasion.

AutumnHues · 03/10/2011 22:00

Thanks, I've never heard of those cakes.

I don't think you'd really tell there were courgettes in them. My kids couldn't and that's always a good thing.

AutumnHues · 04/10/2011 07:38

Morning all, I'm here early this morning.Smile

My DP is off today and I don't want him thinking I MN all day Grin

So today i'm going to make a huge effort that tells him I dont sit on my arse all day.

daily tasks
hoover,
polish
clean toilet
clean toilet floor
mop kitchen floor
make master bed

as well as
Prep dinner for tonight
declutter crap on top of drinks cabinet
put baskets of clothes away I put in the corner of the bedroom when I get it in from the line Blush

We are out about 2.00pm so it's alot to do before we go.

Then it's tidy the kitchen after dinner and hopefully sit down to watch Eastenders

Gosh I feel like i'm taking on too much today Sad

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 04/10/2011 09:25

I've just dropped off DD1 and DD2 at school. DS2 is down for a nap - so I'll have to occupy DS1 while I get on with a few chores.

My biggest issue is laundry - clean or dirty doesn't matter - I have tons of it and I can't deal with it quickly enough so it becomes an issue. So that's what I'm going to try to do today, though it'd be good to sort out tonight's meal if I can - we have ballet after school (I hate Tuesdays).

If I manage that, I'd like to:

clean bathroom
clean kitchen
tidy, dust and hoover lounge

Shinyshoes1 · 04/10/2011 11:12

hoover,
polish
clean toilet done
clean toilet floor done
mop kitchen floor done
make master bed done

as well as
Prep dinner for tonight
declutter crap on top of drinks cabinet done
put baskets of clothes away I put in the corner of the bedroom when I get it in from the line

Now I can MN for 15 mins !

AutumnHues · 04/10/2011 14:50

Hi all, I have been out most of the day so far so I haven't got much done at home.
I have:
Done some washing up
Put washing machine on
Been out shopping
Had lunch out
and visited family.
Now I'm back I suppose I should try to do some more washing up!
I'm going to have a coffee break first though.Wink

Afternoon, been out and about today, was tempted to have a nap this afternoon as was up in the night with DS2, but resisted and got on with list. Everyone sound like they have been busy.
Done;
more pancakes,
washing up,
washing on and out,
cleaned all sinks,
sorted half of clean clothes pile,
dinner prepped,
kitchen floor hoovered,
dining table cleared.
To do;
move linen baskets upstairs,
put DS2's too small clothes in vac packs,
sort out under/on coffee table,
ironing,
cook dinner.

Somehow I missed your recipes last night boffinmum, sound lovely thanks may try the sponge today if the corner shop has some more eggs.
The cupcake one sound yum too thanks light.

AnetteProfit have a Biscuit it's none of your business.

Right off to pick DS1 up, unfortunately I will have to wake DS2 up first, he will not be happy.

AutumnHues · 04/10/2011 15:23

Hi notso, I'm still sat here MNetting, I can't seem to get going at the moment.
I feel cold so am thinking about getting my scarf out of the drawer!

OP posts:
notso · 04/10/2011 15:38

It's cold here too. Sunny, but the wind is cold.
I am hoping not to need the heating on for a while yet, but may need to hunt out the blankets and hot water bottles if I am to succeed.

I am in desparate need of a Brew, trying to cut down caffine for the baby but finding it hard. I usually drink about 12 cups a day.

AutumnHues · 04/10/2011 16:01

That's better, I have put a body warmer on and that is doing the trick! (Also sat having another brewBlush). dd is throwing a tantrum about the tele cause her favourite programme hasn't started yet!

When I have finished this brew I better get on and do some jobs.
