Feeling a bit like a failure today! I struggle with the every day stuff like keeping up with washing up, and laundry. Not brilliant at cooking either!Sad

I have been trying to do the baby steps for FlyLady but not sure It's working for me although some days I do the timer thing and that helps.
I have a toddler and an older dc, Not blaming them for the mess, I just find it all hard some days.

Welcome lucytails, I am sat having a coffee while trying to find some motivation to get going. Today I must try to clean up my kitchen mainly by washing up/drying up then cleaning the work tops.

Morning and thanks for letting me join you. Good start so far, DD and DS1 at school, dinner money paid, dishes done and washing is on. My lovely Mum has taken DS2 out for a couple of hours so I am just having a muffin to stave off morning sickness then it's action stations. For some reason the return button isn't working on my keyboard so please excuse the layout of this post!

AnySleepWillDo · 29/09/2011 10:32

Hi ladies. Been looking on mumsnet for 3 years but never posted!

Can I join your thread? I did no housework yesterday as was out all day.
So far today have stuck some washing on, stripped the beds, washed up and cleaned to cooker.
Quick break before I tackle dds bedroom and hover all over!
Depending how I feel after that I might do the bathroom
Want to get us out this afternoon though as we have no garden and weather is lovely!

AutumnHues · 29/09/2011 10:47

(Namechange) Please may I join too? Getting absolutely nothing done here. Heaps of ironing, washing up, stuff for charity shops in bags, junk and paperwork piled high. I'm going to do 20 minutes and see what happens ...

AutumnHues · 29/09/2011 12:53

Hi PastaLaVista yes, (Like your name!).Smile

I have just stopped for a break. Going well today here!Grin
I have decided to try working by the timer, otherwise I will sit and MumsNet all day!
I have to add to my done list:
1 load of washing on
15 mins drying up
15 mins washing up.

lucytails · 29/09/2011 13:40

this weather is far too nice to be stuck inside cleaning! I've probably taken far too many break out in the garden :) anyway i have got done:

  • got everyone up, washed, breakfast'd, and off to work, school, nursury
  • tidied breakfat stuff
  • put a load of washing on the line, and another load in the machine
  • hoovered downstairs
  • tidied, polished, and wiped the skirtings in lounge

i really need to get on with the bathrooms this afternoon because i know i won't have time tomorrow else and i find it impossible to clean the bathrooms when everyone is home!! I've just rather annoying remembered that i used the last of my bloody toilet duck the other day so i need to pop to the shop and get some loo cleaner which is a pain. Its either go to the shop or nip to mums a couple of streets away and borrow something lol. Ok i'll be back later with some cleaned bathrooms. Keep up the good work everyone!

AutumnHues · 29/09/2011 13:58

How is everyone else getting on?

I'm off to set my timer again (more washing up). I'm hoping I get more up to date with it then I won't have to spend all day clearing the kitchen like I seem to be today.Hmm

AnySleepWillDo · 29/09/2011 15:30

Done list for today...
Washing (till tonight when dp gets home)
Washing up
Hover
Bedding washed dried and put back on
General tidy
Kitchen floor.

At my mums in the garden now soaking up some sun!
Will do dinner when we get home
And maybe do bathroom while dd has her bath!

notso · 29/09/2011 15:45

Things went downhill after my last post.
Steam cleaned half the shower,
then while I waited for it to resteam phoned about DH's speed awareness course,
then my Mum came back and we chatted for ages, and since she left I have put DS2 down for a sleep and pretty much just drunk tea and browsed the internet!

Off now to clean the rest of the shower,
also need to,
fold washing,
sort tea out,
ring talk talk,
hoover kitchen.

Well done to anyone who is getting on better than me!

pozzled · 29/09/2011 16:50

Hi to all you new people! This lovely weather doesn't make it easy to do the housework does it? Except for the washing, I've done so many loads in the last couple of days that I'm struggling to fill the machine now- very unusual!

Today and tomorrow are difficult days for me because my 3 year-old isn't at nursery so I have her and the baby. I have done ok though:

Tidied front room.
Hoovered.
More washing done.
Made and iced biscuits!

Now I need to do the washing up and clean the kitchen again.

PastaLaVista · 29/09/2011 18:19

Ooooh, autumn, thank you! I am hopelessly over-excited pleased that you like my new name. All my others were very, very boring, so perhaps I will reborn on Good Housekeeping. Smile

Well, 20 minutes turned into more like 5 x 20 minutes - not bad for me:

  • 2 loads of washing all drying in the sun
  • washing up and nearly all the drying up
  • tidied upstairs
  • bought tea
  • made tea
  • tidied one absolutely minuscule small pile of junk away

Still to do:

  • clear another 101 small piles of junk
  • answer or file 200+ emails
  • file 6 months paperwork
  • empty box room
  • clear out every cupboard in the house
  • get 50+ minor repairs done
lucytails · 29/09/2011 18:27

ok i've somehow got the majority of what i wanted done today whilst also getting to enjoy the beautiful weather today :) i managed to get both bathrooms cleaned with a little help from my wonderful mum, who not only brought over with her bottle of harpic loo cleaner, but she also cleaned the downstairs loo, sink, and mopped the floor whilst i finished off the main bathroom. We then spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sun in the garden lol. I've also cooked everyone's dinner. Will tidy the kitchen in a bit, and give the skirtings in the other rooms a wipe tonight when the kids go bed.

AutumnHues · 29/09/2011 18:41

Everyone sounds quite busy! Well done!Smile

I might do a bit more in the kitchen later and I think I have some dry washing to put away. Will probably leave it till dc go to bed.

OP posts:
PastaLaVista · 29/09/2011 19:01

Damn! I knew it was all going too well. Put the washing out too late and it's still damp.

I will be sluttish and leave it out overnight to attract pigeon poo the fresh smell of dew and hope that it dries in the morning.

And where did all that new washing up come from?

Pootles2010 · 29/09/2011 20:27

Gosh you're all doing so much better than me. I finished sanding/power washing garden chairs last night then couldn't be bothered doing anything else, paying for it tonight!

So far I have:

Put the wm on
Dishes
Bleached kitchen bin (getting v wiffy!)

Still to do:

Put washing away
Handwash clothes
Clean compost bin (also wiffy!)
Packed lunches
Clean hob
And situps (not cleaning but must be done!)

Gah

AutumnHues · 30/09/2011 09:59

Morning all, How are you all this morning?

I am having my usual "wake myself up" hour. I don't seem to get going till gone 10.00am. Never have been a morning person!

Here's my hopeful list for today:
Clean bathroom sink and windowsill
Wash up / dry up
cat litter tray
Put away dry washing
Hang wet washing on airer
I still can't hang washing outside as the neighbours are having work done to the outside of their house. Angry I'm quite annoyed because it has been one of the sunniest weeks of the year!

OP posts:
PastaLaVista · 30/09/2011 10:35

Morning autumn!

I don't get going until 10am either - takes me an hour to recover from getting the kids out of the door.

List for the day:

  • wash up/dry up
  • cancel unused gym membership
  • do the ironing
  • remember to bring washing in once dry (and check for pigeon poo)
  • clean at least one window
  • tidy away one more pile of junk

DH is at home today though, so I suspect I will get nowhere - I may even end up less sorted than when I started out!

AnySleepWillDo · 30/09/2011 10:46

Morning!

Done list today
Washing on
Washing up
Hovered
Cleaned bathroom
Kitchen tidyed

Will nag dp to put washing away tomorrow
We are off to Egypt on Monday so time is running out to get everything done!!

Hope you get all your jobs done.

PastaLaVista · 30/09/2011 11:23

I think you've got to the root of our problem, AnySleep.

Hovering.

AutumnHues · 30/09/2011 11:49

I have returned to MN as I was getting too hot in my bedroom! Blush (that is where I keep my airers) It is very sunny in there so I have come back to the dining room where it is much cooler. I will have to return to bedroom later to hang rest of washing.
I must go and feed the cat as she is staring me out!

notso · 30/09/2011 13:46

Hello, lovely day here again. DS2 is snoozing so am going to work my ass off until he wakes up.
Already done;
made burgers for tea,
phoned my sister,
put washing on,
emptied dishwasher,
finished mammoth shower clean

Still to do;
washing out and more on,
mop kitchen floor,
put away clean clothes,
make beds,
buy salad for tea,
hoover,
hunt around the street for my compost caddy while cursing binmen.

Happy housekeeping all.

AutumnHues · 30/09/2011 14:51

I've come to a bit of a standstill now but will probably get going again after I have got ds from school.
I have:
put away dry washing
I eventually hanged all wet washing on airer,
sorted my bedroom so it looks tidy again,
done some washing up,
Picked out some more washing to go in machine.

It's normal to struggle with the domestic chorage. I have childless friends who have cleaners because they can't keep on top of it. They don't cook either.

I'm not saying it's something to aspire to - but just don't feel bad!

BoffinMum · 30/09/2011 22:19

Ach, I have a flipping housekeeping blog and even I struggle sometimes. Wink
