JKS it does feel good to be finally buying my own furniture etc, and slightly nicer stuff rather than this-will-do-for-now. I saved for over a year for the footstool and bookcase and now owe my mum for the tv stand but it's worth it I think.

So that long list I had yesterday? Didn't get done. Hopefully get some of it done today but have friends ds again (there may be a rant coming on that front)

JKSLtd · 04/10/2011 14:52

Need to read back, just to let ye know I am still alive. My MIL and SIL arrived last fri and have started pulling my house apart (cause I couldnt be happy living like this) Shock I am biting my tongue because it will be worth it to have a clean house. Though it doesnt seem like my house. Cause they are putting things where they think they should go not where I want them to! Need to get off this before they catch me!

anonymousbird · 05/10/2011 13:29

Hi Cike, I've not been around much too! Glad to be back though, listing is so therapeutic and reassuring.

JKS - suspect Cars 2 may well be on our Christmas or DD's birthday list as we are way too late for a cinema trip.... Blush.

Are we nearly in new thread territory? But it CANNOT be time for our Christmas thread, no no no, that's just, well, plain illegal, surely?! Haven't even dared see if the Christmas Topic is up and running, I bet it is! Confused

I think we should have a Halloween thread first :)

But yes the Christmas topic is going, mind you I have started collecting little bits & pieces, ordering from Book People, etc.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 05/10/2011 16:03

We can have a halloween thread only if we all take an oath to post regularly...otherwise we'll still have a halloween title in february or something!

Erm well Santa has done his shopping here! And I won dd a big bundle of dressing up clothes and ds some wii games (all used) on ebay so they're done really and I'm making for most other people. TBH I've only done it so early because I was already very broke and in my twisted little way I'm more likely to be able to live frugally to repay debt than to save Hmm and this way I should be back in the black by xmas and be able to enjoy it rather than stressing about money. I know it's a bit of an upside down way to manage money but it works for me Grin

Cars 2 may well be our xmas movie too.

CC that would drive me mad but hopefully once they're gone it should be easy enough to rearrange the bits that aren't working for you.

anonymousbird · 05/10/2011 18:32

Oh yes, Halloween of course, but yes, that would require regular posting indeed to enable us to also have a festive thread!!

Am impressed jealous that you have the foresight to plan ahead for Crimbo. We still have DD's birthday to go early November, and I haven't organised that yet so I will not give it any thought until after that. It is the same every year.

That said, DH has apparently sourced us our turkey (I don't particularly like turkey, and had my heart set on a great big rib of beef and yorkshire pudding but he has promised me that he has been promised a turkey extraordinaire.... Hmm)

Ah well.

I alibaba promise to post daily on the Halloween thread! Grin

Things are going reasonably smoothly here. We are going to look at schools for DS1 next week. We've got 3 very good state primaries locally, so there shouldn't be any major dramas. The secondaries here are awful though, really awful so we will either have to move or go private at that point.

Off to my parents today to get my hair cut while they look after the boys.

OP posts:
anonymousbird · 06/10/2011 10:33

Oh you've reminded me, I need a hair cut! AND need to go to the hygienist (bleugh).

Good news re your local primaries, not so good news re the senior side! We have two local senior schools. Unfortunately the one we are in catchment for is nowhere near as good as the one slightly further away (a top 100 in the country job, fantastic school).

Does anyone use Waitrose.com? I shop there in person all the time, but only just now used the online service for the first time. I didn't get on so well with their website, suppose I'm just not used to it, but it took forever to load and stuff. Do they have somewhere where you can just type in your list and search rather than searching each item one at a time???

Lots of offers and a £15 off voucher, so £120 shopping actually costing me £67...

DH and I are going part veggie. He gave me a fabulous book for my birthday, it's the River Cottage Veg Everyday book and I am literally salivating at some of the recipes. It's going to be a hell of a lot cheaper that's for sure. Found 3 dinners for next week in the first chapter! Hmmmm. It gets five stars on Amazon, and I cannot wait to get stuck in. Not that i am greedy or obsessed with food or anything. Grin

TimeWasting · 06/10/2011 11:17

Morning!

Anon, that book sounds good, I might have to have a look at that.
Last year I actually had Christmas on my ongoing list from the previous January and it worked. I made a Christmas cake in the October and cooked my very first dinner for the three of us, it was fab.
This year, I'm only buying for the children and cooking nothing. Grin Much less stress. Grin

Well, I'm 40+1 today, no sign yet. Keep getting mild contractions during the night that disappear as the sun comes up though, and she was engaged and facing the right way on Tuesday so it's looking good for the VBAC as long as she shows up before induction day.

Hmm, list...

  • bring washing in out of rain
  • drink raspberry leaf tea + Biscuit
  • school run
  • lunch
  • shopping
  • pancakes for tea
  • Ds bath and bed
  • wash the pots

I'm quite looking forward to being a bit more veggie. I couldn't give meat up completely, but in the past DH has always had the attitude of "a meals not a meal without some meat in it". However, this book sounds soooo good even DH is convinced and when I said it would help with the budget (ie. more money for his beer!) he definitely perked up!

TimeWasting · 06/10/2011 19:37

Freaky, that's a very good reason not to do it!

not having a good day, have a read here about parents evening. not impressed.

anonymousbird · 07/10/2011 09:35

Oh JKS, poor you, not surprised you're not impressed. I'd be livid frankly at the attitude and the fact that she has not said anything so far and is at odds with what you were told last year.... He must only be 5 so I think all that sounds very unfair AND unrealistic. Why on earth would someone be a Year One teacher and just not be able to find it in themselves to a) just be nice and b) be a tad more helpful/empathetic/understanding/proactive rather than negative and critical. Grrrr... I am Angry and Sad for you.

Is he happy at school? Here, have some Thanks, a Brew and hope you enjoyed the Wine.

Hello everyone! I have got rage today, my bloody car needs MORE money spending on it! It went in for a safety recall on tuesday, some issue with the cruise control, and then yesterday it went into 'limp home' mode. DH took it into the dealership this morning and some value or other is gone and it's going to cost £270 Angry
It is a good job he was there and not me else I think the roof would have gone off the building. This is the second time in 6 months that they have had it in for a service and then this recall, and both times it has then developed a problem - literally the next day. I feel it cannot be a coincidence... or perhaps I'm being unreasonable? Rant over Grin

JKS she does sound really lacking in empathy, which is bad in someone teaching little ones. Don't be angry with yourself, it would have floored me completely too and I wouldn't have known what to say.
