I want to do a feature wall with this William Morris paper.

What colour paint would you put on the other walls?

I like colour!

As the navy has been ruled out 🥲, between your final two I’d say the dark green .
Looking forward to the photos in due course!

Londonmummy66 · 21/03/2025 09:39

Another one regretting the navy.... but definitely the dark.

Maladie · 21/03/2025 10:25

I would go more by the room set pics than the samples at this point. Which one do you want on 3 of the walls? I think pictures of whole rooms are better at giving you a better sense of what the whole room will look like than a little square against the current wall colour.

Looking forwards to seeing final pics OP!!

MidnightMeltdown · 21/03/2025 12:31

Definitely something light as the wallpaper is so dark

Here's another pic of the samples.

Apologies for the wonkiness, I was reaching over the piano to stick them to the walls.

The walls that are easy to reach are bright raspberry pink! Which goes surprisingly well with the wallpaper as it happens 😁

Also probably best not to look too closely! I can see I did a terrible job of applying paint to paper for the dark one. Hopefully I can do better on the walks!

I think if you go for the dark green it’s going to be too dark and have old pub vibes (but maybe that’s what you’re going for!)

finallydecorating · 21/03/2025 13:27

Well that's the thing, I like them both! I can't decide, I keep changing my mind!

This image keep popping up on my social media. It's actually from the company selling the tiles, but that colour looks pretty much identical to me. And I love it!

I'be always wanted a room this colour, or a similar blue-green shade.

However I think I agree with heldinadream that the colour isn't exactly right. It's definitely the nearest match Little Green does, but it's still not quite the same.

The darker green on the other hand goes perfectly. And I love the room pics of it too.

The sample paints on cards are useful for seeing what the colour actually looks like in my dining room. The darker one is a bit less blue, a bit greener in real life, in that room.

Ok, so I got some testers - these aren't the final section necessarily, just what my local B&Q happened to have in stock in Dulux.

First up, Village Maze

Why have you ruled out the mid-greens, like this one for instance? 💚

I just didn't like it in real life.

I got a tester and did a tester card. It doesn't feel like it goes with the wallpaper.

I'm not against mid-greens in principle though!

Do I want it to look like an old pub? I'm not sure! I mean, I do like pubs... I'll have to think about that one 😁

Blimey! So I just went off looking for green paint again, and Dunelm - since I last looked- have got a new paint range called - drum roll - William Morris at Home!
Whether it's their own range I'm not sure.
Anyhoo. What about this for a mid-green? And they've got blues too obviously but I haven't looked at them yet...

IMVHO, I think this is a better match than the dark green, @finallydecorating .
But have you definitely decided against the navy ? ( aaaah, go on , go on ……) 🫰🫰.

Oh this looks lovely!!!

The light green jars a bit, but I completely get that maybe the dark green would be too much. This blue really hits the spot!

Mind you, I was also keen on the navy so that’s possibly why 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Ah, I absolutely love this blue. I've shared the picture upthread I think?

Sadly the family have vetoed it. Bafflingly, no one else likes it 😭

Ooh, that's nice, thanks - worth a try! I couldn't find a sample at Dunelm but B&Q do peel and stick ones.

Has anyone ever used the William Morris at home range? Is it a quality thick paint like Little Green or does it take quite a few coats to get a good finish?

Decorating update for anyone who's interested!

First bit of news, I finally chose a paint, and I managed to convince the family on blue in the end - well, teal, but it actually looks a bit more blue in real life.

This is Renew, by Coat Paints.

Second bit of news - we started stripping the lining paper and half the wall came off! Only on one of the walls though thankfully.

So, no finished pics yet as I had to find a plasterer.. all done now though so hopefully we'll get to decorating before too long 🤞

Haha, yeah... no 😅

The woman in that pic has a level of easy sophistication I coukd never achieve.

Plus head-to-toe white?! I admire people who can wear it but it'd be covered in stains in no time if that was me. No idea how people manage to do it!

I should probably manage people's expectations - anyone looking forward to a beautiful ideal home-esque final pic - sadly it's not going to be that!

It's going to be my very ordinary 1930s ex-council house with my mis-matched furniture - just with really lovely walls 🥰

SpidersAreShitheads · 19/04/2025 06:13

I also thought that was you for a second OP 😂

Good news on the paint though - blue, yay!!! Bad news on the plastering though - always risky when you have to strip old paper off!

I was thinking of you the other day because I saw some William Morris coasters.

Thank you for updating - looking forward to seeing the finished result 😊

Also following. Corker of a colour (I always thought blue, the green wasn't right). Good luck.
