I want to do a feature wall with this William Morris paper.

What colour paint would you put on the other walls?

I like colour!

Agree. I have my whole living room in this paper (below picture rail). It will look really pithy just on one wall. WM prints needto be maximal and bold.

Pithy?!! What on earth do you mean?

I checked the dictionary in case there's a meaning of pithy I don't know, but all I got was pith of a fruit (I guess, yes, it does have fruit on it) or "terse and meaningful" which is kinda abstract for a description of a wall, but I think I can live with a terse and meaningful wall Grin

Anyway, I am very comfortable with my unfashionablly tacky feature wall. Sorry not sorry it disturbs you so.

@finallydecorating would you post a picture when it's done? I'm so nosy - I'd love to see it in its full glory. I like the greens, teal, or the pale mustard. The pinks and oranges I'd find too full on for a wfh room.

Ooh, maybe! I'll PM one to you if I lack the bravery to post it here! Let's see how it turns out 😁

We won't be actually decorating till April so you will have a while to wait I'm afraid!

@Ineffable23 I think that is alovely combination.
@finallydecorating what colour were you thinking for the woodwork?

Current plan is white for the woodwork.

I think the manufacturer’s choice of blue looks best.

Yes I love it too, and the splash of orange with it. None of my family like the blue though sadly 😥

There's a lovely vibrant turquoise on the bird's head. Could you use a colour to pull that out?

Ooh, is there?! I can't see it on my phone, will have a proper look on my computer later...

If you go with navy then pale sage for the woodwork would be amazing

Wood floors. Slightly orange.

Oh this makes a HUGE difference.

You need to paint a tester pot against the floor.
The yellows and the orangey/peach colour are going to either go beautifully with that colour cood or clash horribley.

I still like the photo from the maufacturer with the mid blue. Looks really nice.

Yes I'm sure!

I love the wall paper but at £60 a roll, no, I'm not doing the whole room.

And anyway, it's too busy for a whole room IMO.

I am entirely interested in whether other people think it's tacky. I love it, tacky or not!

I bought the paper I loved and just put it in large frames on one bare wall as art!

This has the advantage of being even less expensive, adding texture...and even more importantly being far easier to put in frames than hang and pattern match on the wall!

Call me cheap and lazy!

If you have enough light in the room I like the pinky color best. Makes the flowers pop.

Yes, me too, that blue is lovely. Family have pretty much vetoed it sadly. 😥

YY to a tester pot. This thread is mainly to help me narrow down the ridiculous number of colours I'm interested in so I can get just a few testers not the entire range 😁

Probably something like F&B 'Setting Plaster'.

I would go for this because it is warm and I feel that paper needs a warm colour rather than a cold green or blue.

Pink Paint Colours | Handcrafted Paint

Our pink palette includes some of our best-loved colours. Add pops of pink into your scheme or try a barely-there shade as an alternative to a neutral.

I have no expertise but I'm really surprised how much I like the mid blue and the mid yellow. Shame family have vetoed the blue, it is surprisingly forgiving with orangey wood. A creamier shade of the apricot would be my other pick if you can get the flooring to work with it.

Not at all dissing the feature wall but if you are going with a contrasting colour (rather than navy) I would put it in a gigantic frame - I just like the transition better. Something like this handtreatedhome.com/box-trim-moulding-with-inset-wallpaper-tutorial/

NiceProblems · 13/03/2025 18:19

I like all three colours in your first post, the sage green is my favourite. I didn’t like any of the colours in the second post but surprised myself to really like it with the yellow.

I've never seen mouldings like that with wall paper. They look so stylish.

Cherrypies · 13/03/2025 21:33

Have you thought about lilac/Lavender, or a bit darker, mulberry etc

Love these! Am keeping the picture in my scrap book! Thanks.

Lovely wallpaper OP. A warm apricot or rich coral or salmon pink could work nicely.

I agree

WildCherryBlossom · 14/03/2025 10:52

I love this wallpaper. I’ve daydreamed of a dining room decorated in before (wouldn’t work in my current dining room). Of your mock ups I like the navy or dark green.

finallydecorating · 14/03/2025 15:59

Ok, so I got some testers - these aren't the final section necessarily, just what my local B&Q happened to have in stock in Dulux.

First up, Village Maze

Proud peacock, which on reflection I think is probably a bit much tbh!?

I notice there's a Mumsnet thread on it!

And I ordered a sample of the wallpaper which should come in the next few days so I can see what they're like together.

Ooh, I like this Indigo colour from the Dulux Heritage range! Shame they didn't have that in B&Q today.

I wondered if the family might be persuadable...

No one liked the mid blue I liked, but the navy got a couple of votes.

I want a paint that doesn't need loads of coats (hence looking at Dulux not Valspar).

Can anyone recommend any other paints that don't take loads of coats?

I know F&B has lovely colours but is it actually good to work with?

OP posts:
Maladie · 14/03/2025 16:32

I would wait until you have the sample - that will drive the exact shade.

Our experience is 2 coats of F&B is fine but I've not done any very strong colours. We've also had Johnstone's colour matched to F&B and that had excellent coverage. It was quite a lot more expensive than Dulux though.
