I want to do a feature wall with this William Morris paper.

What colour paint would you put on the other walls?

I like colour!

Ooh, I like this Indigo colour from the Dulux Heritage range! Shame they didn't have that in B&Q today.

I wondered if the family might be persuadable...

No one liked the mid blue I liked, but the navy got a couple of votes.

Wow!! 😱

This stuff is nearly a tenner for a tester pot!!

Please tell me that's not normal these days?!!

I ordered testers from dulux online and then got my paint made up in dulux trade at the Brewers near me.

This is lovely. 😍

I think they used to sell testers almost as a loss leader, but they realised how much demand there was for them and started charging more! Dulux heritage is pricier than normal Dulux though IIRC.

Ooh, I think DP might have a voucher for Brewers as it happens!

Dark blue or dark green for maximum effect. I used to be an interior designer if that helps! Love the paper and think a feature wall is fine! 😂

JaninaDuszejko · 14/03/2025 21:40

Little Greene is better than F&B, for F&B you'll need an undercoat plus at least 2 coats for F&B and willstill wonder if you need a third whereas LG will be 90% there with a first coat and fabulous after a second coat. Look at Canton or Marine Blue or Royal Navy, or amultitude of others, they have a good selection of strong blue greens.

SpidersAreShitheads · 14/03/2025 23:53

I’ll be honest OP, this whole thread has made me seriously consider doing a feature wall, tacky little soul that I am 🤷‍♀️😂

I’ve always had plain painted walls and quite minimalist designs but I’ve found a wallpaper that I really love (that also has a dark blue background). Problem is, I couldn’t cope with a full room of pattern - would be too busy for my eyes. (Possibly relevant, I’m autistic and find I get overstimulated by lots of visual clutter or fuss).

So now I’m wondering if I should do a feature wall and if navy on the other walls would be too dark 😂😂

I’m mid-renovation so have lots to do first - but I’m another one who would love to see your end result if you’re happy to share ❤️

Wallpapering one or two walls has been a thing a lot longer than the last 20 years or whatever, go for it! Means you can use a design that would otherwise close in on you. I don't like visual clutter either so have one behind my headboard and it works really nicely! @SpidersAreShitheads

heldinadream · 15/03/2025 10:18

Looking at blues from Little Greene after @JaninaDuszejko 's recommendation. This one is rather lovely and slightly different from your Dulux Heritage one @finallydecorating .

Actually more than slightly different now I've compared them properly- much brighter.

OMG I love the Little Green website thank you so much!

The colours are stunning, there are plenty of pictures of the colours in rooms which I like to see (real ones too, not just computer generated) and the website is beautifully designed too.

They're not exactly cheap! But I definitely think I can find a colour that makes my heart sing there!

Not spending a fortune on samples is hard!

Oh, I'm so glad this thread is inspiring others!

We can revel in our beautiful (tacky) feature walls together! Grin

OK, I'll share a photo when it's done. Might be a while though...

I think that Little Greene and Paint and Paper Library are the same company (as when I've ordered P&P paint the dispatch note says its a Little Greene parcel. This is a lovely looking navy https://www.paintandpaperlibrary.com/plimsoll

P&P samples arrive in a beautiful box with a free sample sized paint brush (not that I am a sucker for presentation...)

heldinadream · 15/03/2025 14:43

Yes please post pics of your samples and progress etc @finallydecorating I for one am living vicariously through other people's decorating at the moment while we wait for our house sale to go through. Will be very interested to see what colour you decide on in the end. 💙

Yeah, Little Greene samples arrive with a free brush as well. And the samples are in screwtop jars rather than mini paint pots which I love.

I have my samples!

We've narrowed it down to a choice of two...

So it's basically a choice of dark or light!

I've painted the samples on card rather than the wall so I can move them round and see them in different lights.

The colours are Tea With Florence (dark) and Aquamarine (light).

@Londonmummy66 I totally agree the Little Green samples are beautifully packed!

These are promo pics from the website.

I'm the pics with two colours, Tea With Florence is the lighter colour on the walls not the drawers and Aquamarine is the colour at the bottom.

Here's another pic of the samples.

Apologies for the wonkiness, I was reaching over the piano to stick them to the walls.

The walls that are easy to reach are bright raspberry pink! Which goes surprisingly well with the wallpaper as it happens 😁

Also probably best not to look too closely! I can see I did a terrible job of applying paint to paper for the dark one. Hopefully I can do better on the walks!

Dark. Definitely.

Offcom · 21/03/2025 09:17

It's really some kind of magical wallpaper because I think all of the combos on this thread could work.

These are really lovely colours and either would be great, but someone has to go home so tonight, Claudia, I do think the dark has the edge for me.

heldinadream · 21/03/2025 09:21

Dark definitely. The dark one looks as if it was actually made to go with the paper. The light one, by comparison, looks very slightly not right.

Fizbosshoes · 21/03/2025 09:23

My first instinct was sage green but now I think the darker green looks nice.

I have feature walls (some with wall paper, some with a bolder paint) in 4 rooms in my house but I commit a lot of MN decor crimes!

It's a new level of snootiness where even WM wallpaper can be described as tacky!

Nannyfannybanny · 21/03/2025 09:24

I've been decorating more years than most Mumsneters have been alive..I love a feature wall. I love wm. 40 years ago I covered a sofa in the Lily pattern from scratch, No pattern to go by. Have had lots of different styles over the years. Last year I went all wm. Our bedroom is mostly completely white. Bedding grey,I went for his Seaweed design.. I couldn't afford new,it was vinted and eBay. I have summer/winter curtains/cushions/throws. I say, sage and woodwork the same colour. My youngest DD actually moved house yesterday, and guess what, they have made the fireplace wall into a "feature".
