I want to do a feature wall with this William Morris paper.

What colour paint would you put on the other walls?

I like colour!

FWIW this is how the manufacturer styles it in their promo pic

Absolutely 100% the navy blue. Wallpaper stands out beautifully. You don't need a strong colour to go with it, you need the wallpaper to take all the glory.

I do love the navy but I'm worried the room will just be too dark, it's not a huge room.

I suppose the other colour that's not too strong is the sage.

I keep coming back to the sage - other family members really like it - but I'm not sure if it makes my heart sing... Maybe...

None of those colours work for me.
I have WM features in my home, they are very much ‘in your face’ (and beautiful), you need something soothing, not another punch.

What colour would you suggest?

I like your comment about the wallpaper taking all the glory btw. Food for thought...

I think the navy and sage work best, the navy will absorb light so cold make the room dark this depend on how light it is already, I don't think the terracotta reds or midblue work to be honest and if going for navy I would most definitely try to match to paper background,

PurBal · 12/03/2025 12:51

I agree that the whole room would look gorgeous. I would go with orange if not. I think it's bright and cheery.

finallydecorating · 12/03/2025 12:52

Wow! Googling to find photos of how other people have styled the same pattern and came across... William Morris tights!

I could match my wall 🤣

(I think I love them!)

Whatever colour you like, just consider making it a few shades lighter than you thought you would, as they really are a statement.

heldinadream · 12/03/2025 12:59

I'm really surprised I'm saying this, because orange is probably my least favourite colour, but apart from the navy, which as you say would be too dark if you don't want the room dark, I think the orange is standout fabulous.

Miaowzabella · 12/03/2025 13:07

The sage green and the navy paint go best with the paper, but the navy might make the room too dark.

Offcom · 12/03/2025 13:07

I think a yellow could work, if you like yellow?

If you love colour @finallydecorating match the pomegranate.

Fabulous paper ❤

MissyGirlie · 12/03/2025 13:23

I'd go for either the green you have in your first post with mock-ups, or a lighter version, depending on the vibe you're after and the light in the room.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/03/2025 13:30

I would absolutely go with the navy, but I have a house full of darker strong colours and don’t find my rooms dark. But if that wasn’t going to work, I’d probably go with the mid blue and have some orangey accents in the room.

minnienono · 12/03/2025 13:32

I would pick out either the pale green or pinky peach.

JaninaDuszejko · 12/03/2025 13:33

Have you thought about making your ceiling the feature 'wall'? Wallpapered ceiling then sage green walls would look gorgeous. And if you don't want to wallpaper the ceiling please please carefully consider the colour you paint it and don't go for a briiliant white, paint it pink or yellow to match.

I think the navy and greens go with the wallpaper much better than the pinks, light blues, or yellows. Would you be happy working in a dark space though? You'd need to balance the darkness of the walls with light furniture and accessories. Gorgeous wallpaper though, love it.

I have a navy dining room and it really works as mine is a lower basement and a dark room anyway. It is very cosy. You could get a Dulux colour match to the background. Navy with that paper will look considered but I think any other colour will look a bit random even if it is in the print. The issue with the promo styling photo is that the paper is on all the walls you can see - ie behind the cabinetry and over the doors. The contrast colour works there as it is on woodwork which you'd expect to be a different colour. They've been quite clever as the paper is not a feature wall but gives the impression of being one.

allmycats · 12/03/2025 14:28

Dark blue, but get it colour matched to the paper. Lovely paper.

Chunkilumptious · 12/03/2025 14:31

Lovely, so a nice light level from the bay window, not extremely dark or bright. I'd personally be tempted by lighter and warmer to pick out the oranges if you'll be working in the day. Maybe Victory Colours Coralina or Yellow Pink? They have beautiful shades. They've got a nice one called Terrapotta too.

I think feature walls can work beautifully. People are just snotty because they think everything has to go out of fashion after 15 years but I think that's often a lack of confidence on their part. If something looks good done well why not keep using it? Feature walls are not pretending to be anything they're not. Great quality paper and a lovely paint shade, what's not to like, whether that's in full, one wall or half height. Sometimes a design looks beautiful but doesn't need to be the full room. I nearly made that mistake in my bathroom but stopped at two walls. I should have stopped at one really and did in my bedroom with some vintage paper. It's gorgeous! Would be far too much the full room.

Perhaps they're ready for a new name. Solomur?

Overtheatlantic · 12/03/2025 14:33

No advice but I think the wallpaper is gorgeous. I love a William Morris design.

IsItAllMenopause · 12/03/2025 14:53

I think the navy looks best as that is the background colour anyway. If you think its too dark have a look at some of the paler William Morris papers?

steppemum · 12/03/2025 15:01

I like the navy, but it will be very dark.

The promo picture with the blue panelling is lovely, do they tell you hwat the colour is?

But my favourite is the peachy colour matching the fruit.
I know it gives a completely different vibe, but I think the room would look lovely.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 12/03/2025 10:39

How rude all those telling you what they think about the feature wall you’re going to have - that’s not what you asked!

I would pick out the pale teal colours if for a living room but the peachy colours for a bedroom

People can't help themselves! They have to be rude 🙄

steppemum · 12/03/2025 15:04

Offcom · 12/03/2025 13:07

the creamy colour that Offcom suggested would be calm elegant and cool, but again, a very different vibe to navy blue.

LauderSyme · 12/03/2025 15:10

Lovely wallpaper OP. A warm apricot or rich coral or salmon pink could work nicely.
