I want to do a feature wall with this William Morris paper.

What colour paint would you put on the other walls?

I like colour!

Ukholidaysaregreat · 12/03/2025 18:49

I love the dark blue and the dark green. Think both look fab.

@MoodEnhancer
Did OP ask for your opinion on feature walls being tacky? nope

Oh shit. It’s the comment police!

Darkwaters · 12/03/2025 19:33

I really like it with the orange, looks warm and inviting.

In fairness, calling them tacky was pretty rude.....you don't have to like them, but not really any need to be quite as insulting.

Anyway.

OP, I really like the navy but I think that might be because I've got a current obsession with that colour 😂

Could you maybe tell us what floor you have in the room? That might help determine the best colour to go with the wallpaper.

Also, as an aside, I don't wear tights but if I did, I'd be absolutely in for a pair of those!

Yes I'm sure!

I love the wall paper but at £60 a roll, no, I'm not doing the whole room.

And anyway, it's too busy for a whole room IMO.

I am entirely interested in whether other people think it's tacky. I love it, tacky or not!

Fair enough, as I said, personal choice. I agree that unless you have a massive room, that print would be too much on all walls. I too love a WM print and colour so had curtains made in my favourite print, and painted all the walls a nice colour - hence the suggestion.

Oh look, the comment police have brought back up! All the others on the thread saying the same thing and those who agreed with my comment better watch out!

It would be a crime against William Morris himself to go with any other colour than navy. A well placed mirror and some good lighting, it will look phenomenal ⭐️⭐️

GoodBones85 · 12/03/2025 21:11

@finallydecorating I have a very similar wallpaper in my office space at home. Also not a huge room.

I have it on a feature wall and all the other walls are sage green. I absolutely love it and it brings me joy and happiness every day. So sage green gets my vote.

daisychain01 · 12/03/2025 21:16

I love William Morris (got 3 M&S bedding sets) and also love feature walls. They're not tacky!

I could stay on the Dulux site for hours.

How about the pale taupe to pick up the stems

The dark mustard colour in the original post (the first yellowy one).

Wood floors. Slightly orange.

My vote is also navy. Or your first darker green. Finally the first mustardy yellow if you want bright.

The navy us so striking though!

TheSilentSister · 12/03/2025 22:24

I love William Morris designs. I have blinds in the kitchen, with pale grey walls (to match the stone floor) but the leaf pattern matches a colour in my units. It just finishes it off nicely.
Also WM in my bedroom, which is predominately pale pink, with pink headboard - so my feature wall is behind the bed just dark green paint, which is directly opposite my WM curtains. It all works lovely without being OTT.

Telling people something they like is “tacky” - especially when they didn’t ask your opinion - is rude. I’m sorry you don’t seem to be able to comprehend that.

No issue with people not liking feature walls but there’s no need to be so unnecessarily insulting.

But sure, go ahead and call me the “comment police” again. So original.

On a more productive note, @finallydecorating, if your floor is orangey-wood then the yellows and mustards might look a bit odd? The peach/orange/terracotta type colours might also clash a bit? It makes me lean even more heavily towards the navy, or maybe the green as a second choice?

urbanbuddha · 13/03/2025 05:10

I think the manufacturer’s choice of blue looks best.

Crucible · 13/03/2025 05:40

I absolutely love the navy.

springintoaction321 · 13/03/2025 06:06

Out of your 6 colour choices I would go with first block and go for no. 3 (lighter green)

springintoaction321 · 13/03/2025 06:08

NB I also love a feature wall - and pleased to hear that it makes me tacky!

I'd always suspected I might be tacky, but good to have it confirmed on Mumsnet....

Ineffable23 · 13/03/2025 06:24

I think I would want to put testers of a good few of these colours on the wall once you have a proper paper sample of the wallpaper. I think all of them could look good but there will be subtle differences in shade which can be make or break. E.g. while I agree that the darker colours feel better than the paler colours, if I wanted lighter because of the lighting in the room, I think this highlights the lighter leaves better than the other sageish colour.

There's a lovely vibrant turquoise on the bird's head. Could you use a colour to pull that out?

JaninaDuszejko · 13/03/2025 06:50

@Ineffable23 I think that is alovely combination.
@finallydecorating what colour were you thinking for the woodwork?

Ceramiq · 13/03/2025 08:10

Feature walls are awful - the fad has passed, thank goodness.

IceIceBabyBump · 13/03/2025 08:13

Fagli · 12/03/2025 09:40

I agree, can you just do the whole room?

Agree. I have my whole living room in this paper (below picture rail). It will look really pithy just on one wall. WM prints needto be maximal and bold.

Mylittlebobble · 13/03/2025 08:36

@finallydecorating would you post a picture when it's done? I'm so nosy - I'd love to see it in its full glory. I like the greens, teal, or the pale mustard. The pinks and oranges I'd find too full on for a wfh room.
