Lost passport, HELP!!

bcalice · 02/04/2023 20:14

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

Erm, can you get to Belfast without your passport? Is a driving licence enough?
Good luck & enjoy the trip

No passport needed, checked before booking 😂

extract from easyJet:

Identification needed for domestic flightsPhotographic ID is required on all domestic flights.
Here's a few examples of photographic ID that is accepted:

  • A valid passport - an expired passport can be used up to a maximum of five years after expiry
  • Valid photographic EU or Swiss national identity card
  • Valid photographic driving licence, provisional or full
  • Valid armed forces identity card
  • Valid police warrant card/badge

Will probably have been in my handbag this whole time or something 😂

My husband said he hopes it turns up as he just NEEDS to know where it is, even if it’s too late now, but I hope I never find it!!

I think the desperation of booking Belfast hopefully proves to you all that I literally looked everywhere, even in shoes and in plaster boxes and sunglass cases 🥲

It will certainly be a story to tell!! I've lost 1 passport when moving age 16 and had one stolen in Malaysia neither were fun experiences so I feel your pain.

I hope ye have a fantastic time in Thailand.

as long as you and your husband know this then don’t give a fig what anyone else thinks!

Ursualesther · 04/04/2023 15:47

How much does the 7 day express device cost?

tribpot · 04/04/2023 16:03

You know this thing is going to drop out of your handbag just as the plane takes off for Belfast. Fingers crossed!

TheHoodedPaw · 04/04/2023 16:07

Might be worth setting up a credit check watch if you haven’t already - if it’s really lost then possible that you might have ID theft. Did you have it to book your flights though? Usually you have to input your passport number at some point?

diddl · 04/04/2023 16:13

Car glove compartment?

AnyBenny · 04/04/2023 16:38

Keep a close eye on your driving licence now…

poshme · 04/04/2023 16:39

@bcalice in case it's helpful, some people have managed to move their passport appointment from belfast to other closer places. If you are on Twitter Ukpassportcheck is a bot that will tell you when the passport service comes online each day.

How come you didn’t splurge on premium?!

Thank you! This is how I actually managed to get the appointment, so it’s sooo useful.

originally had an appointment on the 24th in Peterborough, but changed to Belfast on the 6th, kept checking all last night but nothing better came up, and today wasn’t able to change as the appointment is 48 hours away! It’s a shame as I saw some people managed to get London appointments for tomorrow etc, but I’m just grateful I got something, I need to think positively 😂

100% would have if it was an option, but it’s only for renewals, the quickest service you can do for a lost passport is the 7 day fast track 🥲

Because that is for renewals only - not lost / stolen passports.

WarningToTheCurious · 04/04/2023 16:52

Definitely driving licence is fine for photo ID for England - Belfast flights.

Londre · 04/04/2023 18:01

Definitely don’t need a passport to travel domestically. I flew from Birmingham to Glasgow a few weeks ago and no one checked my driving licence! Have fun in Thailand OP.

Think of the dilemma your husband will face when he finds it halfway through your trip to Belfast. If I were him I think I'd destroy it and never think of it again. What do others think?

If he does that, you can guarantee there will be a problem in Belfast and the OP will not get her new passport in time.

That's how it works.

I did 7 day fast track for the 2 passports I lost (one in the scanner and another in an other document) and both arrived within 3 days so fingers crossed

the second one was during lockdown and still arrived well within the 7 days

good luck in Belfast and please sleep with your driving licence duck taped to you body until then
