Lost passport, HELP!!

bcalice · 02/04/2023 20:14

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

You poor thing! How stressful for you.
My gut ( and I have no idea why but reading through the thread ) says check your laundry basket and a place where you keep all your handbags
Good luck I really hope it turns up for you.

I can’t understand why you haven’t checked in already or provided API info?

Become some airlines don't let you until 24-48 hours before the flight.

Not for long haul

Car glove compartment/side pockets?

bcalice · 03/04/2023 12:50

Sad update - still not found it.

Sister in law and nephew have been round looking, we have methodically looked in each room, the the kitchen cupboards, pulled each drawer out and checked each item of clothing, the coats, every single bag I own by each of us, any documents I own, have checked between them etc.

I honestly do not think that it can be anywhere in this house at this stage!

Haven't used it to check in flights as we aren't able to check in until 24 hours before.

Been refreshing the passport website every 10 seconds and no appointments have come up yet (when i rang them, they said this shouldnt be affected by the strikes and i should still be able to get an appointment by refreshing)

Sorry OP. We are rooting for you!

Another thought ( as we are all so desperate for you to find it) my work friend gave me a laptop bad she didn't want anymore when I went to use it I found her passport that she'd lost in the front pocket ! Have you a laptop bag / work document folder?

Ikilledthebabysharkdododuhdodudoo · 03/04/2023 12:57

Places a passport could be used:

-Embassy for a visa
-hotel check in in UK because you forgot other ID
-HR dept where you work
-collecting a parcel and being a bit extra with the ID

Any of these familiar?

StopFeckingFaffing · 03/04/2023 13:08

I'm guessing you have already checked pockets and linings of all coats/jackets that you own?

Don't suppose you have any jackets you have taken to dry cleaner and forgotten to collect?

Thank you - I have 3 bags that I use for work (excessive I know 😂) have checked all pockets unfortunately, and not given any away etc

  • Didn’t need a visa for Thailand
  • stayed in one hotel for work since, certain I didn’t take my passport but called them anyway and they don’t have anything
  • havent needed it for HR or anything and also only been in the office a handful of times
  • Collected one parcel since Venice, and they almost didn’t give it to me as I didn’t have any ID, ended up showing them a picture of it on my phone!

this is what annoys me, I just haven’t used it for anything like this so I’m SO confused where it’s gone 😱

appreciate your help though thank you x

Unfortunately yes; my mum did too and she finds everything, she did find a credit card I had ‘lost’ which gave me hope that we’d find the passport, but alas, nothing 😩

no dry cleaners or anything x

Behind the fridge?!

WarningToTheCurious · 03/04/2023 13:52

You haven’t put it in an envelope with other documents?

Inside the book or magazine you reading last time you were travelling?

DH hasn’t accidentally taken yours into his work?

Cupboard where you keep travel bags?

Have you completely stripped out the drawers where it’s normally kept?

IDontWantToBeAPie · 03/04/2023 13:54

If you're train distance to a passport office you can get an emergency passport the same day as the appt.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 03/04/2023 13:56

Sorry seen that doesn't work for lost ones

50andup · 03/04/2023 14:08

Inside your DH's passport / passport holder / document file?

Maybe DH has picked up yours thinking it was his. Did he take "his" for ID somewhere / into work / in his car / packed it already for your honeymoon?

DontMakeMeShushYou · 03/04/2023 14:12

Where is your husband's passport now? Where does your husband think his passport is now? Just in case you think you are both talking about the same passport when you are talking about two different ones (iyswim).

Have you looked in every single bag and pocket of your husband's as well?

At this point, I'd be taking off the kickboards under the kitchen units and opening up the bottom of my sofa (both places I have found missing things before).

Also pull all your drawers out completely and check it hasn't got caught above the drawer (trapped in the base of the drawer above, or under the top of the unit).

Did you take a book to Venice? What about something like an ipad (in a case - could you have slipped it inside there)? What hand luggage did you take?

heartbreakhotel20 · 03/04/2023 14:22

Have you tried the local police station if someone found it in the taxi they might have handed it in at the police station rather than the driver. I had this happen with a purse once

DiscoBeat · 03/04/2023 14:32

You've checked at work I guess?

Ursualesther · 03/04/2023 15:11

Why did you contact town hall and not police?

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 03/04/2023 15:21

I am ridiculously invested in this. It cannot have just walked off.

Do you receive a lot of magazines/etc in the post, and toss them into recycling in bulk? Could it have been mxed up in that? Did you scour your bins looking for it?

Agree with others, physically look at your husband's passport and make sure yours isn't tucked inside of it. Where is that document case?

Are your files neat or untidy? Have you been through every single page of your personal files, financial files, work paperwork? Looked in and behind every book?

What is your situation -- large house, small flat, ?? Garden? Common hallway? Has any visitor been there who might have scooped it into their belongings inadvertently? Children?

Beneath area rugs?

Do you carry a leather portfolio or anything it could have stuck to the underside of, then fallen off outdoors?

Have you asked at your supermarket and other local shops?

This is so frustrating.

somethingischasingme · 03/04/2023 15:32

I found my husbands in the front pocket of his case where he'd looked. It was above the zip not below where you'd expect. So reach up in stead of down into the pocket iyswim?

TroysMammy · 03/04/2023 16:59

Have you put on each coat to check the pockets? Holding a coat to check the pockets means you could have checked the same pocket twice.

What luggage, including carrier bags did you have when you came back from Venice?

MrsTopaz · 03/04/2023 17:01

Any hidden areas in the car..? Mine has a little drawer thing just to the right and below the steering wheel… somewhere that you might have considered ‘safe’ if you had it and needed to pop it somewhere?
