Really truly beautiful places in the UK?

The more specific the better, ideally.

But I am going to nominate the whole West Coast of Scotland (excluding Fort William and Mallaig).

And yes - most of the Scottish countryside

Skribble · 04/04/2006 00:22

Yes second that, whole of Scotland Grin. Mind you I am not into barren hills though prefer woodland, coast, rivers and lochs.

\link{http://www.gla.ac.uk/medicalgenetics/2002/021123swan_pond.jpg\Culzean} is my favorite for a frosty Suday afternoon walk.

handlemecarefully · 04/04/2006 00:47

Ok - being dense, but which bridges are those?

Gingerbear · 04/04/2006 00:49

Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough and I think Skribble's was the Forth Bridge.

Gingerbear · 04/04/2006 00:50

The little one was Carrbridge (had to look that one up)

Skribble · 04/04/2006 00:50

Sorry my bridges were \link{http://infohost.nmt.edu/~armiller/jpeg/firth3w.jpg\Forth rail bridge} and {http://www.carrbridge.com/img/SlideShow-Bridge-01.jpg\The Old Bridge at Carrbridge}.

Enid · 04/04/2006 08:14

Second London at christmas

also Lyme Regis, looking along the coast to Golden Cap on a really sharp windy day

The top of the ridge opposite my house on a summers day when surrounded by sheep, deer and kids playing

Clary · 04/04/2006 08:21

I loved Kynance Cove and also Waterloo Bridge (nostalgia for London...)
If we're talking bridges I have a soft spot for Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.
But I am going out on a limb and nominating Lincoln Cathedral up on the hill;
The breathtaking view of Whitby as you come down the coast road from Robin Hood’s Bay;
And Shep White’s, out on the Wash, marshland as far as you can see and a treacherous tide (an acquired taste, that one, but it’s where I’m from and I love it).

throckenholt · 04/04/2006 08:28

Kyle of Tongue, Loch Eribol, and the beach at the top of Loch Eribol on the way to Durness.

Pembrokeshire coastline, especially Marloes beach

Start Point in Devon

Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire

Beech woodland just to the west of Bradford.

Tyrrells wood in south Norfolk

wilbur · 04/04/2006 08:33

Another vote for the view from Waterloo Bridge (my parents got engaged there so it has extra special family meaning).

Also, the coast of mid-wales, love the view of Aberdovey from slightly inland. Also near there is a gorgeous valley where there's a ruined castle, Castell Y Bere, and it's a gorgeoius place, quite an unusual landscape with rocky outcrops, very pretty.

wilbur · 04/04/2006 08:33

Oh, and Burnham Beeches in the Autumn.

ItalianJob · 04/04/2006 08:35

Whitby.
St. Davids (especially bit near Cathedral).
Llangollen.
St. Ives.
Fife coast (Pittenweem Harbour, Cupar)

Radley · 04/04/2006 08:37

I think the whitby area is gorgeous, especially the cleveland way walk between whitby and robin hoods bay.
