The more specific the better, ideally.

But I am going to nominate the whole West Coast of Scotland (excluding Fort William and Mallaig).

I HAVE to vote for the Northumberland Coast Grin
the Northumberland Hills Grin
some Northumberland towns Grin
some Northumberland Villages Grin

I'll just clarify that by saying I like most of Northumberland Grin

Cornish Coast
Dorset Coast

\link{http://www.timecatcher.com/Images/Ian/Findhorn-sands-pat.jpg\This} is where I sort of grew up - Findhorn.

Ooh what a lovely thread.

Jackieno, we love Tenby too, go there every year on hols.

I see that while others agree with me re Whitby, you are all immune to the charms of the Wash lol. Even you, Throckenholt? It's your manor too, no?

schneebly · 05/04/2006 07:33

one of my local \link{http://www.visitkintyre.info/places/Southend/dunaverty-for-web.jpg\beaches}

I killed another thread! Please come back!

The Albert bridge at night
Northumberland coast when not foggy

Views from the back of racehorses..
The view over Brighton from Woodingdean at 6am
40 horses streaming out of Greystoke castle at dawn.

Any view at the Cheltenham festival

My trip to work is possibly the most stunning, even after 10 years; West along the A66 towards Keswick, turn off for Ullswater and meet the view down the valley. Stopped for a few moments to watch the crows having a dogfight with an old buzzard!

Winchester watermeadows

schneebly, is that second Kintyre beach on the western coast road N of Campbeltown? We had a fab holiday, staying nr Tarbert, when the kids were smaller, spent a whole day on a beach just like that and had it pretty much to ourselves (was June, not Jul/Aug but still) - one of those idyllic days that stay with you Smile. We all loved the whole area (and the older kids always had a good snurk at the Paps of Jura Grin)

Bozza · 05/04/2006 12:05

The view of Durham Cathedral and Castle from the train especially at night.

schneebly · 05/04/2006 12:53

JanH - glad you had a nice hol here - loads of nice bits of beach on the west coast. Am always amazed when people have been here - it is so 'out of the way' I love it most of the time but pissed off that some companies wont deliver here and the shops are a bit er...limited!

JanH · 05/04/2006 13:01

Always had a soft spot for Kintyre schneebly, because when I was at school manymanymanyyearsago I had a penfriend who lived at Tayinloan and went to high school in Campbeltown. (She once bumped into Macca - literally - in the street there, in about 1969 when he was still cute and not wrinkled, she practically swooned at his feet Grin)

We went up the windy road to the Mull of K on our holiday, in order to take a picture of DS1 and a banner from his Beavers pack which was on a mission to be photographed in as many different places as poss - that was an experience! (We took it to Loch Lomond as well, v pretty but not as exciting.)

I'm quite Blush by this thread as it's made me realise that I've hardly been anywhere in the UK. I could only think of two places beautiful enough to be worth mentioning, both of which are already on this thread, the view north from Greenwich Observatory and The Giant's Causeway.

bran · 05/04/2006 13:21

Also I find Canary Wharf quite beautiful when viewed from the DLR on a foggy night with all the office lights on. Because of the fog you can't see the tops of the taller buildings and it looks as though they stretch up into the sky forever like some sort of fairy city.

schneebly · 05/04/2006 13:24

JanH - I live in Southend very near the windy road to the mull! My dad is a mechanic and fixes maccas things when he is here - dad says he is nice but he once asked my aunty to post a letter for him and she told him to do it himself lol!

Clary · 05/04/2006 23:37

Oh Throckenholt those \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/sevenwonders/yorkshire/i/wash302.jpg\big skies} and \link{http://www.lancewadplan.org/Workshop/Cross%20section/3.7%20The%20Wash/Images/3.%20Agriculture.jpg\those brassicas} Smile

RudiRedNose · 07/04/2006 22:40

Laugharne, S. Wales as you look out over the Taff estuary, or as Dylan Thomas would have said 'sloe black, crow black, fishing boat bobbing sea'

BeckyR · 08/04/2006 07:58

Has to be Stickle Tarn in the morning sunshine (Lakes). Also the Langdale Pikes (Lakes) and Alcock Tarn (Lakes). Hmmm, there's a pattern developing.... :-)

And finally, Bath, which is most beautiful in the winter sunshine. What a lovely thread....

maggiethemoo · 08/04/2006 09:30

It has to be the hills of Scotland. Was moved up here by J 3 years ago having lived in London for all 34 years of my life - it was quite a shock but am now completely sold. Nothing beats driving home now towards the hills and going for a good walk. Would agree though that deliveries are double the price to get for some reason and nearly all shopping is done via the internet.

Pruni · 08/04/2006 09:34

maggiethemoo, where are you? (roughly)

harpsichordcarrier · 08/04/2006 09:35

It's not strictly speking in the UK (but it's in the British Isles Smile)

Pruni · 08/04/2006 09:36

HC is that a broch in the pic? (couldn't see any info)

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 08/04/2006 09:39

don't really know what a broch is
one hell of a beach though

Pruni · 08/04/2006 09:41

roundy iron age fort type thing
would look like one of the chimney thingies at your local power station
only much smaller and now a bit delapidated
just wondered
