My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

Zephyrcat · 05/10/2005 10:19

All seems to be working properly again today Missed it loads yesterday!!

Lots of baboons running around at the mo and some very loud birds!

Earlybird · 05/10/2005 10:22

Has anyone seen the sick elephant, or is he gone?

Zephyrcat · 05/10/2005 11:16

There are 5 ele's thre just now - 3 of them are rolling around and having fun in the water! I can't tell if one of them is the sick one but they are all going in and out just fine and look like they're having fun!! Someone said on one of the blogs that they saw him go off with the family

jacobsmummy · 05/10/2005 14:43

not sure if it was my imagination, but earlier on I thought I saw a bloody great big lorry travelling from right to left across the screen, just in the distance.

Must be situated by a road (will look at map)

AuntyQuated · 09/10/2005 19:42

is this still working?

CousinItH · 09/10/2005 20:59

I looked earlier today and I got the sound but the screen was pale grey

WigWamBam · 09/10/2005 21:01

It now says "Due to technical difficulties, the live camera from Pete's Pond is offline".

jollymum · 09/10/2005 21:01

Sent them an e-mail 'cos I keep hearing someone cough. Was sooo worried it was a scam and I have told evryone I know, including three schools. Got a standard reply back. Does anyone know if there is a camera operator or if it's remote? According to the bumf it's remote controlled and just scans around.

CousinItH · 09/10/2005 21:02

No, there is an operator - 2 in fact, both girls? I think it depends which bit of bumf you look at...

GeorginaA · 09/10/2005 21:03

I've heard the windows start up jingle at one point

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 09/10/2005 21:05

It is pale grey when evening and nightime

CousinItH · 09/10/2005 21:06

Nooo, kanga, it was blank pale grey!

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 09/10/2005 21:08

oooooooh sorry >

I keep getting emails from them

jacobsmummy · 09/10/2005 21:57

they have volunteers man the cameras at certain times of the day, after that, it just scans automatically. (in reply to earlier question!)

JanH · 10/10/2005 08:56

It is a beautiful morning in Botswana and the pool is full of eles (not literally!)

The camera spends a lot of time on one group of 3 and I am convinced the bigger child ele is George.

Zephyrcat · 10/10/2005 09:20

I've finally figured out how to capture and print pics from the webcam so am off to hopefully get some lovely pics today (I saw thge huge lorry too!)

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 10/10/2005 14:14

deffo loads of eles atm

and yes I think George is there

Well hoping anyway

please explain in very simple lang how to print piccys

Zephyrcat · 10/10/2005 14:24

Got a nice pic of the eles this morning printed out - bit grainy though.

What you do is to pause the webcam on the pic you want. On your keyboard there should be a button somewhere that says 'print screen'. All you have to do is press that (I did it while viewing the camera in 200% mode)

That captures the whole screen. Then you go to paint, click on edit and then paste and your pic will come up. All you have to do then is either cut and paste the bit of the pic you want or just print the whole page.

If you get stuck give me a shout

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 10/10/2005 14:26

oooooh deffo brill

I have to go out now will try later

Thanks

KateF · 10/10/2005 22:32
