My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

don't think so

I don't know how long they can go without eating leaves etc.

I also don't know if they eat plants in the waterhole like weeeds or reeds

He just got up and walked a short way and is now lying down again

Earlybird · 03/10/2005 17:32

Is he still in the water?

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 17:35

yes he walked a short distance and lay down again

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 18:15

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 18:47

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 19:17

weesaidie · 03/10/2005 19:38

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 19:39

did you see the zebras??

weesaidie · 03/10/2005 19:47

just saw an elephant... waiting for more action!

Munchkinola · 03/10/2005 19:55

Do I need to clean my glasses or does it keep going out of focus?

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 20:02

no the focus keeps going off

jacobsmummy · 03/10/2005 21:28

who is controlling the camera tonight?

In and out of focus (not that I could do much better!)

There was an animal on the banks earlier (maybe a baby elephant - not sure) but too out of focus to see properly

I am soooo tempted to just nip over there and run along the banks, giving all you netmums a big fat wave

Janh · 03/10/2005 21:32

Nighttime images are very poor quality. Can still hear sploshing - is that still our ele?

Janh · 03/10/2005 21:34

Love those cricket noises

jacobsmummy · 03/10/2005 21:35

we were watching the other night and loads of animals, images were grainy and black and white but in focus (problem with focus at the moment)

It's so upsetting to think that the elephant might still be there.

jacobsmummy · 03/10/2005 21:36

mmmm, cricket noises remind me of hot summer nights on holiday!!!

jacobsmummy · 03/10/2005 21:49

ok, I have posted a message to the blog spot, telling them about mumsnet and inviting the camera operator to join us tonight for a chat!

do you think she will, must be lonely up there!

SherlockLGJ · 03/10/2005 22:17

My very good friend did so recently, and as they were looking up directions to the M1 I was still extolling the virtues of MN.

Just hoped, thats all.
