Africa Waterhole Web Cam

My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

roisin, thank you so much for posting this, it's made my week!

We're addicted!!!!!

If you click on thelinks at the top of the page you can go and look at all the animals and also print a list which shows what animals you are most likely to see.

We've seen lots of deer type things but can't work out which one it is! Also the big ostritch/emu birds, lots of herons.

Looks like MN has a competitor in our house now!!!

Roobie · 30/09/2005 15:43

roisin · 30/09/2005 16:04

ROFL at you lot! It was supposed to be for the kids!

Yes, there are several cameras, and they are largely operated by computers with movement sensors.

THEY HAVE GONE AWAY NOW

Zephyrcat · 30/09/2005 16:33

DD scared the zebra away because she was being stroppy and shouting at me - or so I told her!! She's mega impressed with the warthogs because it's Puumba!

We're after a giraffe or elephant now - although I can't keep her off the animal gallery long enough to see anything!

RTKangaMummy · 30/09/2005 16:39

Zephyrcat · 30/09/2005 17:02

I'm scared that something goes paddling and a croc shows up!

RTKangaMummy · 30/09/2005 17:06

It says on the list they don't have crocs

skinnycow · 30/09/2005 17:10

does anyone else keep "seeing" shadows of crocs in the water?
