My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

I'll stay here for a little longer....

suedonim · 03/10/2005 14:36

I must go and finish cleaning but am so riveted by this.

Janh · 03/10/2005 14:51

eles back again - I'm sure they weren't here so often when I've watched before.

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 16:16

He is still there under the water still putting trunk up to breathe

Earlybird · 03/10/2005 16:21

There was a big splash, and I think he's now stood up...though of course the camera isn't showing it...hope i'm right

Earlybird · 03/10/2005 16:39

I think we have a very sick elephant. He was stood up, but is now lying down again but a bit closer to the edge of the waterhole. Frustrating that the camera didn't show much, but don't know if it's random panning around, or if there is a reason they didn't focus on him when he stood/laid back down.

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 16:43

I know

I know it is nature but still

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 16:44

I just keep hoping whatever it is that is hurting him will go away and he will get better

Janh · 03/10/2005 16:45

The blog said (or implied?) that the camera was staying off him because he is sick, but somehow that's more worrying when you know he's there but can't see him.

I love the way the herd keeps coming back and trying to get him out.

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 16:48

Yes it is like they understand that he is in pain and they want to help

Earlybird · 03/10/2005 16:51

that view made it look as if he is lying on his tummy now, rather than on his side. If he is dying, it will make for some gruesome viewing. I know it's nature's way, but it's awful.

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 16:53

If he stops moving or putting his trunk up I am not going to watch fatty and vultures get him

{Fatty is the name the site has given the croc}

Janh · 03/10/2005 17:11

He sounds to be still breathing and sploshing at about the same rate as before though.

Does it go b&w when the sun goes down?

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 17:14

yes they said they prefer white light rather than infer red

MrsMills · 03/10/2005 17:16

Has he eaten at all today? I don't know if his family have brought him anything, I don't suppose it works like that though does it?

Janh · 03/10/2005 17:16

bunch of grapes...
