Offers for 2025

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

Resurrecting this thread to ask how other Durham offer holders got on today?
DS slightly exceeded his offer grades and got his acceptance email as we were driving to school so he's absolutely chuffed to bits. He worked so hard to pull his disappointing maths mock up to an A grade so I'm really proud of him.
Just waiting to find out about accommodation now...

MollyButton · 14/08/2025 11:39

Congratulations @MillicentFaucet my DD had her place confirmed before the embargo. So will be there too

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 14/08/2025 11:43

DD got into her first choice Durham. She’s over the moon as BF also got in

MillicentFaucet · 14/08/2025 12:06

Congratulations to your DC Brienneoftarthismyhero and Molly Button.
DS wasn't even expecting to get an offer from Durham, he only stuck it on his UCAS form as an afterthought as it's so close to home! One of his friends is also going and will be at the Business School which is across the road from their 6th form 😁

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 14/08/2025 12:36

Congratulations to your DS too @MillicentFaucet 🎉

DD is into Durham! She smashed her predicted grades and is now lying flat on the living room floor. (She’s fretted a LOT over the past few weeks!)

Huge congrats to all the DCs. What a process this all is. 😅

How brilliant for her!
Has she remembered to confirm her place? I think only Durham is asking people to log into their portal & confirm within 7 days. DS did it in the car on his way to pick up his results 😁

Good question, will ask her!

ETA: she has. Phew!

@MillicentFaucet - thanks for resurrecting this thread.

Hi again everyone and congratulations! DD met her Durham offer so huge relief because her insurance was for a different subject combination. She’s strangely baffled by the acceptance process and is waiting for another friend to do it first, to be sure of getting it right. Not heard anything from the college yet but it was one of the less competitive ones so I don’t think it will change.

MillicentFaucet · 14/08/2025 18:35

Hi @Dery congrats to your DS, it's such a relief that the waiting is finally over.
DS just had to click through a link on his confirmation email from Durham admissions this morning. It took him to the UG portal and after he logged in & accepted his offer he received another email saying they'd be back in touch with accommodation details by the end of August.
He's been out at pre-pre-drinks since 4pm so glad he sorted it first thing as I doubt he'll be much use tomorrow😁

Dery · 15/08/2025 07:09

Thanks, @MillicentFaucet - DD has accepted her offer now. I’ve been wondering when accommodation details might come through. DD is off on hols for a week and we have permission to open anything that arrives by post that looks Durham related but it sounds like nothing will happen for a few weeks anyway.

NCTDN · 15/08/2025 07:16

Did I see on here that others are looking at Lancaster through clearing ? DS missed his firm by one grade but unlike so many, was not accepted. He’s devastated.

Thats a shame -was it a very popular course?

Is it worth looking at Lancaster's clearing list just to check what theyre requiring for his course - or maybe theirs another one he likes the look of.

RayonSunrise · 15/08/2025 08:17

I am so sorry to hear it, @NCTDN. How is he doing today? Does he have an alternative plan ready to go, or does he need to do some processing first?

.

NCTDN · 15/08/2025 10:15

He’s got an offer for Lancaster for a great course, but not where his heart was set on going. He wanted the most popular course at the most popular uni, hence the lack of budging on grades.

DS received a welcome email from Cuths a few hours ago so I guess he hasn't been reallocated (phew). It doesn't have any timescales for confirming accommodation but it's still good to know he's in the system now.
It's all starting to feel very real 😮

Dery · 15/08/2025 16:46

@MillicentFaucet - that’s great news that your DS is still in Cuths!

DD got an email welcoming her to John Snow and later a second welcoming her to South which caused some panic, but that has now been confirmed as an error. They’re very similar colleges but, after her initial disappointment (having wanted Bailey and catered), DD had got quite attached to the thought of John Snow and didn’t want to move... She’s now wrestling with trying to register a non-school email address with Durham and experiencing some difficulties. But I’m sure she’ll get there in the end.

My DS is in the same boat: missed his grades by one and is holding three good offers from other universities but can't get behind the idea of going somewhere else. I think he has decided to resit.

For the Durham folks: congrats and good luck! My other DS has been there two years and really likes it - off on his year abroad this year.

Dery · 16/08/2025 17:52

Thanks, @BennyBee - sorry your younger DS has had a disappointment. Good luck to him for what he decides to do.

Hope your elder DS has a great 3rd year abroad. Elder DD (at a different uni) will be heading off on her 3rd year abroad in about 10 days’ time. Can’t believe it’s come round so fast!

I think a resit is such a lot of pressure in case they only get the same grades again.

Yes, it could be a lot of pressure but it depends on the individual case. If you are trying to get from an A to an A* for Oxbridge or Imperial, or something, it probably isn't worth it. But for my DS, he did unexpectedly terribly in two subjects which he can certainly improve with just a bit more application over the next 9-10 months. He needs to go from Ds to Bs to get into his chosen university, which is definitely manageable if he applies himself. He wants to retake the third one, which was a B, because he thinks he can improve that too. Short term pain for long term gain . . .

BennyBee · 17/08/2025 15:28

Sorry - I mean from Cs to Bs!
