Offers for 2025

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

Hi @BennyBee is the college accommodation fee paid in one lump in September? My eldest went to Bath and I think we paid by two direct debits at the start of each semester.
Just about to start a bit of tax planning for this year...

The DU website tells you how to pay your invoice but not how often they are sent out

One invoice per term same as tuition fees.
They’re a bit inept so the first invoice was in December.

(No one in the finance dept understands the time value of money…. no wonder uni finances are in a mess…)

Yes - accommodation bill comes in the same time as the student loan, at the start of each term (x3) so gets paid promptly before the money goes on beer! (Collingwood's bar is great and has £2 a pint beer so very popular!)

Re accommodation if student is in Chadsnor Johns accommodation is paid to the college as opposed to Uni - their costs are slightly different as are the invoicing times.

I have a sense that St A and E are going to let the 14 May deadline elapse so DD’s application is rejected by default. Durham is her firm favourite in any event so it’s a bit of a disappointment but not a huge one. Hope your DCs get the news they want/need!

And fingers crossed 🤞 for exams and results day, for everyone’s DCs!

When do the Durham college applications have to be made by does anyone know?

DS email from them says 9th May, he's still deciding but I'm going to remind him tonight.

@MillicentFaucet and @nutsandraisinsrock We got an email from Durham last week saying they will start allocating in May and saying that students can change the order of preference as many times as they like before 9 May. On that basis, it may be safer to work to a deadline of 8 May.

Hi @Dery and @Soundofshuna - still waiting! I’m beginning to think the same as you Dery and that we’ll get to 14 May and just get an automatic rejection. DD seems ok about it. Focussed now on the upcoming exams and luckily does have an offer she will be glad to firm.

Still waiting here( mine is applying for 2 niche languages with no offers so far on student room) she wants as insurance so not a huge problem but seems strange to reject from a niche and under subscribed course( unless they are cutting it!!)

@Deryand @Soundofshunawe’ve finally heard! DD got an offer for Warwick maths. She’s delighted and will be firming it. I so hope you both here very soon xx

@Soundofshuna - sounds like there could still be offers due for your DD. Intrigued about her niche languages. I studied Russian from scratch at uni - centuries ago. It was quite a common choice then - the Gorbachev effect!

@LighthouseCat and @Soundofshuna - quick update here: offer from E and rejection from St A. E offer is for a slightly different subject combination but it’s ABB (vs A*AA for Durham) so DD has firmed Durham and put E as her insurance. Glad that’s finally done!

@Soundofshuna - hope you hear soon, if you haven’t already.

Congratulations to all those with the offers they were waiting for. She can’t really complain with 4/5 offers but would be nice to hear as it is likely to be her insurance if offered. And yes Russian is one of them!

@Soundofshuna - DD got 4 out of her 5 also. It actually turns out that DD heard from E a little while back but she does weekly boarding for 6th form and has only just updated me. St A didn’t reply directly but DD got a notification from UCAS that all 5 unis had responded. Fingers crossed your DD gets an offer from E!

Very excited that your DD wants to study Russian! Took me a while to get to grips with it and it’s still far from perfect but I love it and it has been useful in my job (lawyer).

Dery - so glad you’ve heard. Have been following the long wait. And glad they are able to firm and insure now.

Glad to hear too @dery, I’ve been saying throughout keep the faith - the final offers should come in any second now for those still waiting. Good luck to all your dc with exams. Glad ppl are still studying Russian, I studied it too pre-glasnost - it’s never been of any used to me whatsoever professionally but it’s such a beautiful language and the literature is amazing too

Just a reminder for everyone on here that the deadline for student finance applications is May 16th.

Can I ask do you know what happens if you miss the deadline? I assume just a delayed payment?

I’ve no idea if it means you don’t get any finance for the year?
