Offers for 2025

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

The 16th May is the date to ensure the finance is in place for the start of term but in reality you can apply later and it will be there and you can apply up to 9 months into the start of the course.

@Umbilicat - thank for your kind words (or should I say: спасибо 😀!). And you were absolutely right about keeping the faith!! Best of luck to your DC for exams!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/05/2025 23:35

fab to hear that Edinburgh came good, @Dery !

Dery · 03/05/2025 08:33

Thanks @TheTurn0fTheScrew! It’s good to get that box ticked and DD has put it for her insurance. Best of luck to all our DCs for their exams now they’re nearly here!

Still waiting for Edinburgh! ( unless she has heard this evening!)
Congratulations to all those with the offers they were waiting for. She can’t really complain with 4/5 offers but would be nice to hear as it is likely to be her insurance if offered. And yes Russian is one of them!

Hope your DD has a reply soon. My daughter finally heard last week so offers are starting to come out. She got a reduced offer of ABB for History and Russian at Edinburgh.

Dery · 03/05/2025 16:02

@Namefortodayandtomorrow - congratulations on your DD’s offer! My elder DD is studying history and Arabic at Edinburgh and loving it.

@Soundofshuna - hope your DD hears very soon.

It’s great to see there’s still an interest in Russian. It’s such a rich and beautiful language, with amazing literature and artistic culture also.

Wishing everyone a lovely holiday weekend!

@MillicentFaucet and @nutsandraisinsrock We got an email from Durham last week saying they will start allocating in May and saying that students can change the order of preference as many times as they like before 9 May. On that basis, it may be safer to work to a deadline of 8 May.

Edited

DS finally submitted his preferences form this morning
Cuths - John Snow - Mary's top choices &
Hild Bede last.
He spent the rest of the day on maths & physics practice papers, I think the visit last week has really helped him lock in (as the kids say 😁)

LighthouseCat · 03/05/2025 17:26

Glad the wait is finally over for your DD (and you!) @Deryand big congratulations on the Edinburgh offer. Thanks so much for the company over the last few weeks. @Soundofshuna fingers crossed your DC gets positive news soon, and anyone else still waiting.
Good luck to all over the next few weeks. It’s getting very real now!

Dery · 03/05/2025 18:21

Thanks, @LighthouseCat - it was a big relief, as it gives DD some leeway from
the Durham offer (ABB vs A*AA). E doesn’t offer her first choice of language in a combo with philosophy but it’s still great to have and, with the options offered by Scottish unis, she may be able to take some additional language classes in any case.

And as you say, it’s all getting very real indeed! Good luck to your DC!

Dery · 03/05/2025 18:23

@MillicentFaucet - those are good choices. Not sure of DD’s final choices (she’s keeping me a bit at arm’s length on uni matters at the moment - she says I’m stressing her out) but Cuths is definitely up there. She also really liked Trevs on her second visit.

MillicentFaucet · 03/05/2025 18:35

@Dery we didn't even look at Trev's, I think the building work put him off a bit.
He's a shallow & fickle young man 🙄😁

Dery · 03/05/2025 22:39

@MillicentFaucet - DD really disliked Trevs first time round and we only looked again because we were passing and then she loved it. Apparently that’s a bit of a thing with Trevs!

Hello all - apologies for those whose DC aren’t considering Durham, it feels a bit like we’re taking over!

DD continued to fret over firming for some time, but has now ranked her colleges and made Chad’s her top choice. She’s clearly got over her room-sharing fear and given into her love of the college! Now she can just worry about not making the allocation and/or grades. (No pressure!)

Good luck to all the DC now “locking in” for exams.

My ds didn’t apply to Durham, but I went there for a postgrad degree as an international student decades ago. I loved my time there, and met now DH.
I first saw Durham when taking the train from London to Edinburgh whilst on holiday in the UK. The train pulled into the station at Durham, the sun was setting and it was the prettiest place I had seen in the UK. I came back two years later to study and had such a good experience. I hope all the dc going enjoy it as much as I did.

Dery · 07/05/2025 17:01

@RayonSunrise - Chads is also DD’s first choice. Fingers crossed for both of them getting a place there (and getting what’s needed in exams) - perhaps they will be room-mates!

@hennybeans - that’s good to know!

RayonSunrise · 07/05/2025 19:10

@Dery- I’ve just realised your daughter is also going for Liberal Arts including a language! If they do both make their grades they’ll be on the same course, at the least!

Dery · 07/05/2025 22:39

@RayonSunrise - that’s a great thought! Elder DD is on the same course as another Mumsnetter’s DD at Edinburgh.

KittyMcKitty · 09/05/2025 17:58

@Dery and @RayonSunrise fingers crossed your dc get Chads. My dd is a current 2nd year and will be frepping for the 2nd year in September so will undoubtedly meet your dc should they go to Chads (she loves Chads).

Dery · 09/05/2025 22:07

Thanks @KittyMcKitty! Will let you know!

Soundofshuna · 13/05/2025 13:54

And finally an Edinburgh offer. We did crack and email yesterday! Picked as insurance so forms submitted, hooray. Now just a few A levels to sit!!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 13/05/2025 15:01

@Soundofshuna hurray… glad you finally heard…

Dery · 13/05/2025 19:05

@Soundofshuna - I’ve been hoping for a positive update. That’s great news. Not surprised you cracked but it’s great the news was positive!

Fingers crossed for everyone’s exams now!

RayonSunrise · 13/05/2025 20:55

@SoundofshunaThat’s a long wait, so glad the news was positive!

DD is currently buried under study notes in her room. I’m just keeping the cups of tea coming, now.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 13/05/2025 21:14

Hurrah @Soundofshuna - great news!

LighthouseCat · 14/05/2025 14:46

Great news @Soundofshuna!
