Offers for 2025

ontheturn · 04/11/2024 16:15

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

My dd hasn’t got her allocation for Durham yet and is stressing out - all those she knows have got theirs!

Did she apply for John's or Chad? They are semi autonomous so may be sending their emails out separately to the other colleges.

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 20/05/2025 21:52

@MillicentFaucet no, she has John Snow as top choice

No their college allocations are done at the same time

RayonSunrise · 20/05/2025 22:06

@Brienneoftarthismyhero Silly question possibly, but has she checked her spam filter?

Did she receive her offer prior to 14th May? If so, the allocation should have been sent today. If not, contact the Accommodation and Allocations Office

Less happy news in our house I’m afraid. DD has been offered her 8th choice, Grey. She would have taken ANY Bailey college and is feeling really crushed, blaming herself for waiting to firm and wondering if she’s been punished for it. I’m holding firm to the “Oh well, everyone ends up loving their college anyway” line, but she is feeling very unloved by Durham today!

Going firm or insurance at this stage makes no difference to college allocation. Durham are allocating many thousands of offer holders and unfortunately that means a small percentage get lower ranked colleges.

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 20/05/2025 22:17

@RayonSunrise yes, been checking her spam.
@Goodnewseveryone she got her offer back in November

Hopefully she will hear tomorrow . On student room there are some posting they’ve not had their allocation email yet

Bunnyjo · 20/05/2025 22:43

DD got her allocation email early afternoon for John Snow. She's thrilled as that was her preferred college - couldn't have come at a better time as her first exam is tomorrow and it's been quite the welcome boost. Her friend also put John Snow as first preference and was allocated South, so at least they're quite close by.

MollyButton · 20/05/2025 22:44

My DD got her allocation today, not her first choice (St Mary’s) but second Trevlyan. She didn’t wants Bailey and preferred catered too. She’s quite happy

Dery · 21/05/2025 00:02

Thanks to everyone for their kind commiserations and their reassuring comments about DCs who have settled very happily at a college which was low down their original choices.

It’s very encouraging to see that some DCs had John Snow high up their list. DD very much wanted catered so we didn’t even visit the self-catering colleges but, aside from that, based on the website information, John Snow ticks a lot of boxes. And actually, I think everyone cooking together in their flats could be very sociable and not that dissimilar from being in catered accommodation.

And good luck to everyone now exams are well underway!

All provisional allocations are done centrally by DU. It’s only after they are confirmed in August that the colleges get involved.

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 21/05/2025 07:35

DD got south and is very happy, was actually her 1st choice, I thought it was John Snow but they are basically same. email came at midnight!

Sittingontheporch · 21/05/2025 10:32

DD holding an offer for Durham. Very pessimistic about getting the grades AND has decided that she wants to do a different course (PPE instead of history). On the other hand, has got a great provisional college and has no plans for a gap year (and isn't a great self-starter) so feels more and more tempted by going in the Autumn.

Does anyone know if there's any possibility of swapping courses on results day and what the procedure for this might be? The sensible thing would be to contact admissions, I know, but she's in such a tizz about A levels. The grade requirements are the same and she has the perfect A level combo (including maths).

RayonSunrise · 21/05/2025 10:43

I suppose all you can do is ask, @Sittingontheporch. Though it sounds like a bit of a Clearing situation to me. I know a couple of people who got onto great courses at RG unis (Medicine, PPE) in the Clearing rush on Results Day, so if she’s really firmly changed her mind about her course it’s worth considering.

DS asked to change his BEng to the MEng after firming Durham. Admissions were great, emailed him back the following day & the course code was updated on UCAS a few days later.
Definitely worth asking.

Sittingontheporch · 21/05/2025 12:01

That's really helpful thank you. Although I guess that was all in the same department. But as you say, there's no harm in asking. Except for the fact that she's in such a tizz - she's got real issues with anxiety that the stupid system of applying with predicted grades does not help. The sense of uncertainty really doesn't do those with shaky self-esteem and MH any favours.

Umbilicat · 21/05/2025 14:16

@Sittingontheporch There's indeed no harm in asking but I would warn that PPE is a very popular course and so a move is quite unlikely in this case. I feel for your dd with her anxiety and wish her the very best.

Sittingontheporch · 21/05/2025 16:39

@Umbilicat I would have totally assumed that (like at Oxford it's twice as competitive to get into as history) but according to the UCAS stats it has a far higher offer rate.

Either way, this is pure speculation on my part and I have to get my anxious daughter to email. Argggh. Thanks for your kind words.

MillicentFaucet · 21/05/2025 17:00

@Sittingontheporch on UCAS the PPE course is showing as only accepting applications from EU & international students now so it probably won't be in clearing for home students this year. Just a heads up so you can manage expectations.

Sittingontheporch · 21/05/2025 17:25

Oh gosh, wasn't expecting it to come up in clearing at all. More wondering if on results day as an accepted history student there's any mechanism for changing.

Anyway all moot because apparently she definitely FAILED all three having done one paper yesterday. It's going to be a long month. In fact, it's going to be a long time until August. And then a very long gap year.

Ah I see, agree it's definitely going to be a lonnng month ahead

Dery · 21/05/2025 20:48

@Sittingontheporch - my elder DD at Edinburgh changed her subjects immediately after she sat her A levels but before she got her results. She had applied for 2 languages but realised she wasn’t ready to give up history so asked to switch to history plus 1 language and Edinburgh let her do that. The courses had the same grade requirements which probably helped. But it can’t hurt to enquire.

dustybee · 23/05/2025 23:15

@RayonSunrise @redblonde honestly grey is a great college. Not pretty from outside but v friendly, good location, great bar good dining hall, lots sports, music - generally loads going on , big enough to easily make friends and not likely to be reallocated again.

Can I ask how she likes Edinburgh
my child is going there but I'm a bit worried by all the headlines about huge cut backs
