Offers for 2025

ontheturn · 04/11/2024 16:15

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

@Upperroom - not LSE or Economics but still waiting to hear from Edinburgh and St Andrews. I’m pretty sure they will be rejections. DD has an offer from her favourite (Durham) which she will firm, but just wants to have heard from everywhere before confirming firm and insurance as her current insurance has the same grade requirement as her favourite and we know the Scottish unis tend to offer lower, if they offer at all.

Also still waiting for Edinburgh and St Andrews. It’s very frustrating as Edinburgh will likely be insurance choice if offered.

@Namefortodayandtomorrow - fingers crossed for our DCs!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 10/04/2025 17:25

DD just got an unconditional offer from St Andrews! So that’s unconditionals from Stirling, Edinburgh and St Andrews and conditionals from Nottingham and Queens… and complete bewilderment about what to accept/ firm except she knows not Stirling… hopefully offer holder at Queens this weekend will help decide… am aware it’s a good dilemma to have…

Dery · 11/04/2025 08:47

@TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong - that’s great news! Well done your DD. Exciting times. We’re still waiting to hear from St A and Edinburgh but it’s encouraging that there are still some offers coming through. We’re in England so if there is an offer, it will be conditional. I still suspect there won’t be but hopefully we’ll hear something soon, either way.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 11/04/2025 08:57

@Dery🤞for you… we’d almost given up on hearing from Edinburgh and St A but clearly they’re not finished with offers yet!

Livein2025 · 11/04/2025 12:27

Congratulations to your DD TalkedTooMuch - that’s a brilliant set of offers. Good luck for coming to a decision about them all!

MonkeyTennis34 · 14/04/2025 08:24

DS2 has offers from Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff and I can never remember the last one!
They’re for Civil Engineering.
The grade requirements are all AAA, except Liverpool which is AAB.
He has been revising well, first exam in 6 weeks!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/04/2025 09:01

Congratulations on the all the offers! Such exciting news. Dery, DC1 is still waiting as well. It's become a bit of a running joke now that she's being ghosted. Glad to see Manchester in mix for a few DC - it's such an amazing city for students.

Jeevesnotwooster · 14/04/2025 09:12

DD got her offers (all conditional) back in December. She's finally chosen Manchester (criminology) as first choice and Stirling (criminology and law) as back up. Glad it's done and she's just into full revision mode now.

Dery · 14/04/2025 10:02

@TheTurn0fTheScrew - I like the humour of ghosting and will try that on DD!

@MonkeyTennis34 and @Jeevesnotwooster - congratulations to your DCs!

Good luck to all our DCs for the actual exams and results day!

Well done to your DS, mine also applied for civil engineering, he's also trying for degree apprenticeships but no luck so far. He's firmed Durham with Newcastle as insurance, we need to crack on with the finance application but it feels wrong while he still has interviews lined up for apprenticeships. He's writing a cover letter for another application now so we'll save the uni stuff for later in the holidays. It feels like he's doing double the work on top of the revision!

MonkeyTennis34 · 14/04/2025 10:59

@MillicentFaucet
He did consider an apprenticeship but we couldn’t find anything suitable. Good luck to your DS.
Is he erring more towards Uni or the apprenticeship route?

BennyBee · 14/04/2025 13:08

My DS received offers from both Newcastle and Leeds with contextual grade reduction - but ONLY if he made them his firm. He also received an offer from the number 1 uni in the subject, so he has firmed that but the grade ask is very high even with contextual. He has chosen the lowest grade offer as his insurance (not Newcastle or Leeds) but would likely have chosen Newcastle if the contextual offer had not been lost.

It seems pretty unfair that universities will make grade adjustments for contextual factors but these are used as means of getting students to choose that uni as their firm. None of the context disappears if they list the uni as an insurance offer. Right? Are unis using the contextuals as a marketing tool? If he doesn't make his grades, will these unis go softer on him in clearing do you think and allow his contextual?

MillicentFaucet · 14/04/2025 13:58

@MonkeyTennis34 he was really keen on apprenticeship route but now I think he's had his head turned by Durham (even though that degree only focuses on civils for the final two years)
I'm trying to gently steer him back by pointing out that working through a degree apprenticeship will give him an advantage over grads of a similar age with only a few months placement experience. He's happy with his uni choices so it's not the end of the world if he ends up at Durham or Newcastle.

DS was also given a contextual offer for Newcastle, but because he put it as insurance it's reverted to standard, I think they'll drop it if he misses his firm though. They gave contextual offers to everyone applying for stem subjects so I think they're after bums on seats. If you look at the historic grades for your DS's course on UCAS you can see how low they'll go.

NCTDN · 14/04/2025 14:45

Interesting about contextual offers from Newcastle.

Interesting about contextual offers from Newcastle.

Yup, look at their historical grades for DS's course, standard offer of AAB but most common is BBB. When we went to the open day we were told that even if DS missed his contextual offer of BBC they'd still take him as long as he'd attended the Partners summer school

Wow ! So different to most engineering ideas around the country. Sadly they don’t do aerospace.

MonkeyTennis34 · 14/04/2025 17:27

What is “contextual”?

Here’s what UCAS say about contextual admissions.

www.ucas.com/applying/applying-university/individual-needs/contextual-admissions

You will also find individual universities cover the topic on their websites.

Thanks for this. I called Newcastle and told them that DS wanted to consider them for the insurance place but could he keep the contextual and they said "no, it reverts to normal offer". This also means that he can't take the Partners Summer school so will probably rule him out for a clearing place if his grades are not good. I will see if I can find his course on UCAS for more info.

RoseTulips2023 · 14/04/2025 21:06

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from Bath? Dd applied for Politics and has had offers from the other 4.

Yes, it still might be worth finding out what the lowest grades accepted for his course have been and making a note of who to call for a clearing place when they open. Hopefully not needed as he gets his first choice!
