Offers for 2025

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

That is a reason to live in Scotland! (Apart from how beautiful it is!).

Dery · 07/04/2025 14:32

@TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong - yay for your DD. That’s great news. Still waiting here but it’s encouraging that there are still some offers coming through.

Rejected by Cambridge, UCL.
Unconditional Offer for Manchester (has grades in hand).
not heard from Edinburgh or Loughborough but is going to accept Manchester

Many moons ago my cousin got turned down by Oxford and went to Manchester.

He's had an extremely successful career to the extent that if you worked in his field you would know the name.

none yet Hmm. 2 days paid work, one extra MFL oral session laid on at college.

Yetanothercrazycatlady · 08/04/2025 08:09

Not enough revision to get him into Exeter, although he’s spent a lot of time perusing the accommodation options…

RayonSunrise · 08/04/2025 08:16

DD seems to be quite disciplined with her revision. Still hasn’t locked in her final choices though - it’s between Durham and Manchester for Liberal Arts. Very different unis/cities!

Quite a lot by ds (a levels). None at all yet by dd (GCSEs). Why did I think dc 2 years apart was a good idea? I will be glad to make it to the other side.

One thing worth considering (I have children at both unis - both in Y2 doing broadly similar courses to Liberal Arts) is that Manchester has semesters and Durham terms. All dd’s modules at Durham run for the whole year and she’s currently knee deep in summatives and then exams will be when she goes back. Manchester however do 60 credits in semester 1 and then have exams / summatives in January and then 60 in semester 2 and then exams / summatives around May time.

also Durham gets a 5 week Easter break and finishes end June and Manchester gets 3 weeks and finishes early June.

My dc are both very happy at their respective unis (dd at Durham is in Chads which she absolutely adores and 99% of her social life is to do with Chads - as are the vast majority of her friends.)

NCTDN · 08/04/2025 10:13

Getting an offer for liberal arts from Durham is impressive. DD nearly went there but chose Bristol and is now abroad as part of her degree.

RayonSunrise · 08/04/2025 12:59

@KittyMcKitty That’s very useful info to consider, thank you. I’ll raise with DD.

Dery · 08/04/2025 13:56

@KittyMcKitty - DD will be firming Durham and putting Chads first. I’ve explained how competitive it is! That said, on a second visit to Trevs, DD really liked that also so that will be high up on her list and is hopefully a fairly safe bet if Chads doesn’t work out!

@RayonSunrise - DD is also applying for Liberal Arts at Durham; a humanities subject plus a language.

Hersetta427 · 08/04/2025 14:12

DD is working well - she amazed me yesterday by getting up early and went on a quick 5k run and was back home, showered and working before 8.30 and stayed there until 5.30 when she got ready to go for a meal for a friends birthday. No run today but she has a 2.5 hr training session for her sport. I said she had to be on it this week as she has two matches this weekend and her boyfriend who is already at Uni but is home for Easter (but that is 200 miles away) is coming to stay for 2 days so she is at least getting work done whilst she can.

She hasn't firmed yet although she knows where that will be (Loughborough) as will her insurance as she applied for two courses with different grade requirements. As part of their elite athlete programme I think she might get her choice of accommodation early - something to discuss with the Loughborough coach when she has her next regular catch up call with them.

KittyMcKitty · 08/04/2025 14:54

@Dery fingers crossed for your dd - I remember what my dd said when she ranked her colleges (with Chads first) is that the only certain way not to get Chads is to not put it first - she put it first and she got in. Dd loves everything about Chads - she is in many ways a non typical Durham student (if one goes by stereotypes) but it has been the best place for her. She is living in college for her 3rd yr and will be frepping so hopefully she will meet your dd!

DS still deciding between physics at Durham, Sheffield and Manchester. I’ve encouraged him to firm the one he thinks he’ll enjoy the most (course/city etc) but t think he’s a bit nervous of missing the high offer he has from Manchester and Durham (2xA star/1xA - physics).

Manchester said at the open day last year that their offer is high to narrow down the field and they will expect to offer some places to those that don’t quite make it. They interview with a view to doing this and DS has been interviewed.

Does anyone have experience of Durham accepting someone who missed their offer? DS is theoretically on course to get his but you never know… (and he seems to perform best when there’s not so much depending on it.)

Dery · 08/04/2025 15:20

@KittyMcKitty - thanks very much and what a fun idea of your DD meeting mine. Elder DD is on the same course at Edinburgh as the DD of another mumsnetter - love these little connections!

@Hersetta427 - your DD sounds very impressive! Good luck to her in her endeavours!

@Changes17 - good luck to your son also! DD’s offers are also on the high side but her subject combination has proved to be rather niche and only possible at 3 unis (ruling out London, where she lives so hasn’t applied).

Changes17 · 08/04/2025 15:24

Thanks @Dery - and all the best to your DD as well!

How much revision is happening in your house this week ?

Nothing discernable. DD did a 17km run last week (she’s not good with bothering to check distances first) and has taken to hill running this week.

She’s made a batch of flapjacks today and told me that she hates flashcards (I’d thought Snap revision cards would help her categorise the stuff that she knows/forgets/doesn’t understand but apparently that’s daft)

We’ve been going to offerholder days, which I thought might motivate her…..

Aaaaargh!

DS has just got the results of his last set of mocks and his previous A in maths has dropped to a C. He's quite laid back by nature but it was a massive shock to him so I think he'll be revising a lot over the holidays. He's also signed up for extra maths sessions after Easter, he really wants to go to Durham but they won't budge on the grades for his contextual offer so no A = no place.
He knows what he needs to do to pull his grades up again so I'm being outwardly supportive and keeping my OMG DISASTER opinions to myself & DH 🤐

Upperroom · 09/04/2025 09:26

My YP finally heard from ucl yesterday with an offer for economics. I think that’s given them a good boost! They are revising like mad for fm - the others aren’t so bad they say. Still waiting on lse though! The unknowing is tiring as if they don’t get an offer from them they’ve previously said they’ll take a year out. If they do get an offer in May they’ll be so much to organise and get our heads round before September! 🤯

YP at Manchester for physics. YP has enjoyed this course massively. It's a hugely dynamic and happening department with fantastic lecturers, lab tutors and tutors. There is a lot of support pastorally, career-wise, internships, studying overseas, department wide events etc. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Upperroom · 09/04/2025 09:30

Anyone else still waiting on lse / economics? Praying they get back to my YP before their first exams! Offer or rejection regardless!

Changes17 · 09/04/2025 11:41

That's good to hear, @SeaofTranquility! Thanks!

Changes17 · 09/04/2025 11:43

Good to hear of all these offers coming in! Congratulations to all!

@MillicentFaucet - we had a similar experience with elder DD when she was churning through practice papers for A level maths in the run up to A levels (except she was scoring Ds!). Her main problem was working out from the questions what she was required to do. We were told this is actually quite normal. She persisted with the practice and although she was convinced she had messed up her maths A level she did get a A. (Her friend, who was inconsolable after her first maths paper, got an A*!).
