Offers for 2025

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from Bath? Dd applied for Politics and has had offers from the other 4.

DS was until last week, for economics. It was going to be a stretch and he wasn’t planning on choosing it for his firm or insurance choices, so rejected it.

Thanks Yetanother. We knew Bath left it late but didn't realise it would be quite this late :)

@RoseTulips2023 - it is quite hard to still be waiting - I think most institutions have made their offers by now so it’s easy to feel like we’re waiting for a rejection.

We’re waiting for St A and Edinburgh. @TheTurn0fTheScrew has been good company in that process!

I feel like these will probably be rejections when they come but DD wants all responses in before finalising. She will definitely firm Durham but insurance is less clear.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Thanks @MillicentFaucet - I did take a look and the average offer is right on the published regular offer and the "lowest" offer is the same as his contextual. I think he will be happy with his current chosen insurance (which is one grade lower than Newcastle contextual) if he doesn't make the grades but we will think about it if that arises - and hopefully, as you say, it won't.

The main reason I made the post though is more general. It just seems unfair in a blanket way to only give contextual offers on condition that particular uni is firmed, and to cancel it if is not. Newcastle and Leeds both do this but Surrey and Exeter do not (his other two offers).

just putting it out there, in the present financial climate in higher education, many institutions are doubtlessly looking at their broader financial situations when giving offers, which is good for home students. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/newcastle-university-35m-international-students-30023341.amp

Yes, many universities are facing the same problem. It is good for home students in a way because they have more chance of getting a place - the empty spots left by internationals plus the extra places opened to make up the financial shortfall - but it won't be good for them in the long run, when they are packed into lecture theatres and can't get a meeting with their tutor, who is struggling under workload problems, as staff leave, are made redundant, and are not replaced.

My DS received offers from both Newcastle and Leeds with contextual grade reduction - but ONLY if he made them his firm. He also received an offer from the number 1 uni in the subject, so he has firmed that but the grade ask is very high even with contextual. He has chosen the lowest grade offer as his insurance (not Newcastle or Leeds) but would likely have chosen Newcastle if the contextual offer had not been lost.

It seems pretty unfair that universities will make grade adjustments for contextual factors but these are used as means of getting students to choose that uni as their firm. None of the context disappears if they list the uni as an insurance offer. Right? Are unis using the contextuals as a marketing tool? If he doesn't make his grades, will these unis go softer on him in clearing do you think and allow his contextual?

Sheffield also do this. DD would have been eligible for a contextual offer but, like at Newcastle, this would not apply unless she firmed there. She didn't apply there in the end. I was also surprised at unis doing this.

Glasgow also allow contextual offers for Insurance choices. @BennyBee , Re.Your question regarding universities ‘going softer’ in clearing for contextual, I hope someone will turn up soon with hard or anecdotal evidence to answer it. I was of the impression they went solely on grades, but I guess it will depend how much they want to fill the place.

Have you filled in the Disrupted Studies form for your choices? Universities say they’ll consider cases that have just missed the required grades if there are extenuating circumstances.

Yes, it seems to be something that is becoming more common. I suppose the universities are just trying to lock in the students with contextuals. To be fair, they do provide transition programmes over the summer, so I suppose they don't want to waste resources on students who go elsewhere after all.

I have not filled in the disrupted studies form but his studies haven't been disrupted (yet) so I don't think that is possible. I think he will be ok with his current firm and insurance in the end.

RoseTulips2023 · 16/04/2025 10:09

DD has now had an offer of AAA from Bath. They haven't taken into account her Scholar's Programme whereby they said they would drop a grade. Just spoke to admissions and need to send an email but we won't hear back for a week or more with it being Easter.

Dery · 16/04/2025 16:33

@RoseTulips2023 - congratulations on your DD’s offer. Encouraging to see there are still some offers coming through.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 16/04/2025 17:08

@RoseTulips2023 glad to hear it - congratulations! Still here to keep you company in the waiting room @Dery Grin

Dery · 17/04/2025 13:06

@TheTurn0fTheScrew hopefully we’ll both hear soon and perhaps even get to celebrate 🥳 with what we hear!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/04/2025 08:44

DC1 has her Edinburgh offer, and it's sufficiently lower than her aspirational first choice to make a sensible insurance, so that's what she's doing. Fingers crossed for you @Dery that good news is on the way for you as well.

WombatChocolate · 22/04/2025 09:19

Glad to hear you’ve heard. Congrats! Hoping Dery hears today and the others waiting too, esp if it will be their firm choice.

Dery · 22/04/2025 14:26

@TheTurn0fTheScrew - that’s great news. Huge congratulations to your daughter! Thanks for updating!

@WombatChocolate - thanks for your kind wishes also.

Still nothing here but I’ll update when we have news, whatever it is.

Namefortodayandtomorrow · 22/04/2025 14:27

DD also received Edinburgh today, one grade lower than she was expecting at ABB so it will be her insurance choice. Now to complete UCAS and focus on exams!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/04/2025 15:08

Congratulations @Namefortodayandtomorrow !

LighthouseCat · 22/04/2025 15:23

Congratulations to those in the latest flurry of offers. Still waiting here! Maybe DD just won’t hear back?!

Dery · 22/04/2025 15:49

@Namefortodayandtomorrow - congratulations!

@LighthouseCat - we’re still waiting, too. Fingers crossed we’ll hear something soon! DD knows her firm but if she gets any more offers, they may have a bearing on her insurance choices (because her current insurance is the same offer as her prospective firm choice which is a bit nail-biting!).

LighthouseCat · 22/04/2025 17:23

Yes, really hoping our DDs hear this week 🤞The one DD is waiting for was going to be her first choice but she’s luckily v keen on one she does have an offer for. If she does get an offer from the one she’s still waiting for, I’m not sure what she’ll do as it’s likely to be the same requirements as the other one, so insuring one of them probably won’t make sense/be sensible.

Dery · 23/04/2025 07:57

@LighthouseCat - our older DD had a nice range of offers so the firm/insurance choice was easy but I know of others where the offers have all been the same so for the insurance choices it’s a case of trying to work out which institution may be more likely to allow some flex if the results are a near miss.

Fingers crossed our DCs hear back very soon.

LighthouseCat · 23/04/2025 17:58

That’s exactly it @dery- all DD’s offers so far are very similar as she was quite decided on her short list for quite pragmatic reasons so she doesn’t have a v obvious insurance and I think her top two favourites won’t allow much wriggle room.
I presume still no news for your DC’s final offer? Not a sausage here!

Soundofshuna · 24/04/2025 09:31

Also waiting( impatiently) for Edinburgh too!!

Dery · 24/04/2025 14:18

@LighthouseCat - still nothing here! Perhaps your DD’s position has changed since yesterday evening!?

@Soundofshuna - welcome to the waiting room!

We’re still waiting for St A as well as E and in fact St A is of greater relevance because DD’s subject combination has turned out to be quite niche and E doesn’t offer precisely what she’s after.

Fingers crossed 🤞, we’ll hear soon either way! And thanks for your company 😀!
