Offers for 2025

ontheturn · 04/11/2024 16:15

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

@StAndrewsConfusion ah ok, that's great she has heard from them (even if it's not quite what she's after!) That's interesting as my dd has applied for MFL so clearly they are keen to get people in so hopefully a good sign. Also hoping she'll hear soon then if the MFL dept are starting to make offers. Thank you ☺️ and good luck to your dd.

My YP similarly going to wait and see how they’re feeling re grades later on and I think we have a meeting in school after Easter, presumably to help them gauge where they stand. We did the Exeter offer holder day last weekend (lovely campus and really friendly and supportive atmosphere) and will do others in the next few weeks.

YP has got 4 great offers (maths) - Warwick (A star A star A), Bath and Bristol (A star AA) and Exeter (AAA) (plus an interview but no offer Cambridge). I’d be happy with them attending any of those! But they’ll have to have a think post these final visits and strategise their firm/insurance pick a bit as the offers are quite high.

Whichever they insure will be nightmarish for accommodation it seems, but we will just have to sort through that. It’s not ideal as YP isn’t terribly outgoing and would struggle if eg not in the usual freshers halls but is working hard and predicted 3xA stars so all fingers crossed will get her firm.

It's a shame the Durham offer holder day wasn't today. DS & I went into town this morning and it was full of students out enjoying the beautiful weather. Loads at/on their way to Maiden Castle, walking along the river banks, sunning themselves outside the cafés etc. We saw a huge group of larpers in full medieval costume wandering up cardiac hill 😁

MotherOfCatBoy · 08/03/2025 16:28

Still waiting on Imperial for Aerospace engineering. DS got a rejection from Bristol and an offer A star A A from Southampton, which he’s happy with if London doesn’t work out. I wish they would hurry up though!

Cathpot · 08/03/2025 23:05

Does anyone know why Warwick sort of trickle out maths offers? They have all the data in now it seems odd that they can’t just get it over with? Presume there is something about the process I don’t get but it’s frustrating waiting to hear one way or the other.

MotherOfCatBoy · 09/03/2025 08:26

I feel the same about Imperial @Cathpot … I can only assume that either they are really examining applications carefully, or have made some offers and are waiting to have them firmed or declined before sending out the next batch, or both… I think the system works for Unis to balance the offers they make with available places but doesn’t really work for the waiting students …

WombatChocolate · 09/03/2025 12:58

Yep, they are waiting to see how many firm, insurance, decline start to come in, as well as which grade profile each of these are, before knowing how many more fees they can make.
They will know how many firms they expect to actually meet their offer, according to differen Prediction levels etc.
Annoyingly, sometimes those with lower predictions get offers when higher predictions don’t. I think this is because they know that all A star predictions might well have Oxbridge or other top choices they will choose instead and so won’t firm them. Some of those with an A or 2 amongst their PGs might have more likelihood of firming —so a mix of candidates has some value rather than just all the very top candidates.

Cathpot · 09/03/2025 14:20

Ah, I see. The last maths offer holder day is 26th April so I’m hoping they let everyone know before then, but that seems a long way off at the moment!

NeedingCoffee · 09/03/2025 15:52

We've been wondering about Warwick maths too. I guess it is intensely popular with overseas students (like Imperial), and in today's world a university wants to make the absolute most of that. So maybe they're holding out for as many overseas students as they possibly can.
However Warwick have traditionally made offers to 19/20 applicants and then weeded out on results day by very high offers / STEP requirements, so I can't figure out why they're being so slow this year. It feels as if it could easily be their loss - I know my DS has rather lost interest in them as he has all his other offers and is weighing up those. I can't see him firming Warwick if he misses the offer holder day because they're slow to offer.
Maybe that's what they want, but he has 4 A star predictions, straight 9s and a decent TMUA, so it feels illogical.

I think you're probably right in that international students pay much higher fees that home students. I don't know the back room mechanics of all universities, however there was an article in The Times about a kind of two tier system. It works both ways however because the fees that domestic students pay aren't enough know to keep universities going given the freeze on fees and increasing costs. International students therefore are in effect subsidising domestic students and keeping many universities running

Itsmyluckyegg · 09/03/2025 16:30

DD got her first choice! Absolutely made up as she had been offered 2 different courses at 2 other uni’s. She does have an interview coming up for another uni, but she has withdrawn as she has got the one she wanted. She also has an online interview later in the month which she will have as an insurance if she’s successful.

LighthouseCat · 09/03/2025 18:30

@Cathpot and @NeedingCoffee we're in the same boat waiting for Warwick Maths. DD's application is v strong but her TMUA was only a little above average. Warwick maths was her dream uni and course initially but I think she'd actually rather go somewhere else now. She does have a Warwick maths and stats offer but that's probably her third choice.

Cathpot · 09/03/2025 21:34

@Itsmyluckyegg congratulations- that’s nice news,
@LighthouseCat @NeedingCoffee its reassuring that there are other people waiting and it might just be a question of time. In theory she has what they need- TMUA was not stellar but I think ok - 5.4 She could do with certainty and to be able to just get on and stop trying to make contingency plans. She was rejected after interview at Oxford so it’s been a bumpy ride.

hennybeans · 09/03/2025 22:59

Ds is still waiting to hear from Imperial to study chemistry. He applied back in early October so it's been a long wait.

At his interview in December, ds asked when he would hear back and the man said "after Christmas ". Well, he wasn't wrong.

Changes17 · 10/03/2025 11:16

Fab news, @Itsmyluckyegg! Well done to your DD.

Dery · 10/03/2025 17:00

We’re still waiting for 2 offers (St Andrew’s and Edinburgh) but - having followed the “St Andrew’s offer - confused” thread (where the poster’s daughter hasn’t been offered maths despite 4 A levels with stellar predictions), I don’t think our DD will get an offer from St Andrews and possibly not from Edinburgh either (but Edinburgh don’t offer her preferred combination in any case; it’s pretty niche and very few places do offer it). The Durham course is her favourite and perfect for her, though, so she’ll be firming that as soon as we’ve been to the offer holders open day and formed a view on colleges. Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting. And for results day when it comes round.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 11/03/2025 09:54

DC is waiting on an answer from Edinburgh for a small intake humanities course as well. I do also wonder, bearing in mind recent news about significant cuts there, if some courses are under scrutiny as to whether they are sustainable, and if this might be part of the reason for slow responses?

PartoftheBand · 11/03/2025 11:08

DC is still waiting for Edinburgh too, although it's a pretty mainstream, popular course.

Dc didn't hear from Edinburgh until late March a couple of years ago - now having a fab time there. I know people who didn't hear until May. Keep the faith.

Hello! Another one anxiously awaiting an offer for her son! He has offers from four of his choices but he's still waiting to hear back about his first choice, Economics at University of Newcastle. It's so difficult isn't it, when you've been waiting for so long to hear from the one place they're really keen to attend?

Newcastle has strike action going on at the moment due to the threat of redundancies which may be impacting the processing of applications.

Onemorestepintheworld · 12/03/2025 16:34

These slow responders can generally afford to keep people waiting. I'm sure they'll have crunched the numbers to find it doesn't affect their acceptance rates. We're waiting for Bath, although it's a stretch. Other universities are turning my DS's head during Offer Days.

primemeridian · 12/03/2025 17:08

DC finally received edinburgh!

CautiousLurker01 · 12/03/2025 18:12

DD finally got her KCL offer today too. Must be something in the air. She now just has to whittle down to two.
