Offers for 2025

ontheturn · 04/11/2024 16:15

I noticed that in 2024 there was an offers thread where people shared when their children. had submitted to ucas and what offers they had received. Anyone interested? We have offers for Manchester, Bristol and Leeds all within ten days of submitting ucas but still waiting on Edinburgh. We do know others who submitted at the same time who have had Edinburgh offers already.

We’ve been to the offer holder day at Nottingham. Not the most organised tbh.

Changes17 · 15/03/2025 17:10

Hope it was still useful @NCTDN. Has it changed your DS’ thinking/decision at all?

NCTDN · 16/03/2025 09:35

I think it’s probably confirmed his firm place, but confused the insurance offer!

Changes17 · 16/03/2025 10:11

My DS is slightly unconfident about meeting his higher-level offers, but totally sure there is no need to visit his insurance-level offers, even though they aren’t massively different. Not quite sure why… Still, it cuts down on the visits.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 16/03/2025 16:45

@NCTDN so were we! Registration was a bit chaotic but English department were excellent ( made me want to go and study there, never mind DD!)…

RayonSunrise · 17/03/2025 16:51

@NCTDN@TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong We were there too! DD was slightly disappointed by the Nottingham experience, though she really likes the course there. She found the campus lovely but surprisingly quiet for term time. Funny how much can come down to “vibes.”

Her firm is between Manchester & Durham - pretty different choices, and she’s dithering a bit. Hopefully the final offer holder day in her set will help her decide for once and for all. Then she just needs to make the grades - none of her offers are very “insurance-y”, so she’s fretting that she may yet find herself in clearing after all this deep thinking!

Bath for us on Saturday. I’d forgotten it was so close to Gloucester Services!

Caution to you and others who may be travelling to Bath on Saturday— iirc according to WIWIKAU the M4 is closed between J18&19 all weekend and in addition Bristol and UWE have events on Saturday, too, so allow plenty of time if driving as the diversion routes got jammed up last time.

Oh ffs thank you so much for the heads up!

Feel this post needs a 😱 or 😧 emoji @MNHQ

YW - yes complete nightmare. Are you also going to maths ie 10am start? We’re probably going to take the train otherwise would have such an early start to ensure we get there on time. I don’t know that area but apparently there are road works on the diversion route as well, plus a Swansea open day albeit further west 🤦‍♀️

indeed - I will put a post on the general page as well as it could potentially really mess up plans

I think that would be incredibly kind of you. It’s not something I would have thought to check until 5mins before getting in the car and entering the post code in the satnav.

Hoping being forewarned will take the unexpected stress out of what should be an exciting day for lots of teens and their families. We have a few weeks until ours - all reachable on the train, but this post has reminded me to allow for train delays and disruption!

Last offer back yesterday (Nottingham). Bizarrely though not for the course she applied for (sports rehabilitation) but for Nutrition and then even more weirdly they gave her 3 grade drops (from AAB requirement to BBC ) as she is a high performance athlete. She is predicted AAA.

DD has no interest in that course so its an easy rejection from her.

NCTDN · 21/03/2025 07:41

@Hersetta427 that’sa huge drop !!

DS is struggling with his insurance offer. The favoured uni is asking the same as the firm but because it’s an MEng degree, they also offer BEng as slightly lower if needed. The one applied to for the potential insurance offer is somewhere he now knows he doesn’t want to be for 4 years.
he’s also applied for a foundation year at his firm offer uni, but that’s significantly lower grades than his predicted ones so could be wasting a year. Argh!!

Could he put the BEng offer as his insurance and if he ends up there switch across to the MEng? I think most places allow this, I know that Durham & Newcastle do if it's done before end of 2nd year.

Dery · 21/03/2025 08:35

We’re still waiting for Edinburgh and St Andrews but I think it will be a ‘no’ from both. In fact, Edinburgh doesn’t offer DD’s preferred course (which is rather niche) and it’s 5 years at St A’s (4 yrs + yr abroad). Her favourite is Durham so fingers crossed she gets what she needs. Maybe see some of you at the offer holders’ day on Monday. Good luck to those still waiting for offers!

What does this mean? DS had a response from Bristol for Aero Engineering that said they won’t offer for that but they’d encourage him to apply instead for Mechanical/ Civil/ Engineering Mathematics. It said his application “did not rank as high as others.”

His predicted grades are four A stars and he already has one as he sat Maths A level at end of year 12.

What gives? Have they filled up their Aero course early and got no more places to offer?

DS had this last year - they actually offered him mechanical (AAB) having applied for aeronautical. He was predicted 2 A stars and 2 As, so we always knew it was a little bit touch and go because Bristol said on the open day they would offer to the a stars first...

He already had an offer from Loughborough for aeronautical and it was a debate for a while, but he ended up in Loughborough because it's the subject that's his passion and he's extremely happy there.

Madcats · 21/03/2025 11:25

When I was at Bristol as an u/grad in the 80’s they failed about 1/3 of the over-subscribed Aero Eng course at the end of year 1 and booted them out.

Commiserations to DS, but this is a far better approach.

Stockpot · 21/03/2025 15:19

DD is sitting on an offer from Cambridge. She is still waiting to hear back from Bristol. She applied for Mechanical Engineering with four A*s.

I guess Bristol gets more applicants with four A*s than places. Or they are judging on other criteria. Perhaps they should use the ESAT like Cambridge and Imperial do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Computer Science at 10am so I’ll fight you for a car parking space! We’re coming down the M5 so I’ll double check the road situation. Taking the train meant leaving now 🥺

Livein2025 · 21/03/2025 18:10

Hiya Stockpot I was under another user name on the St Andrews into ‘21 thread that continued into those starting there in 2022 😊Congrats on the Cambridge offer for another of your offspring. I have a 2nd child waiting on St Andrews but it’s not their first choice and they haven’t quite got the required grades although they might by this Summer.

Can’t believe DC1 is heading towards the end of 3rd year! Got that painful financial overlap to navigate with two at Uni at the same time - that’s one aspect I’m not looking forward to. Has your child enjoyed St As so far?

Sorry for the slight thread hijack but I wanted to keep my interest up while the interminable wait goes on, and on, and on…😂

Hi @Livein2025 ! DD1 is enjoying St Andrews and doing well academically. The only downside is the long trip to London for job interviews. It’s tiring and limits the number of shots they can take. How is DC1?

Justlurkingmostly · 21/03/2025 18:15

Thanks! I have switched the route to come from Devizes now. Alarm set for 4.20am. I hope Imperial comes through with an offer!
