Accommodation at Nottingham Uni

DD got a place through clearing last Thursday. They guarantee an offer of accommodation. She put an application in immediately and then dashed off for a fortnight's holiday!

Not heard anything yet. Anyone have any knowledge of accommodation at Nottingham?

@SueBoo28 my DD too - only discovered a fault this morning apparently. Offered Willoughby (next door to FloBo) on campus or Newark / Southwell at Jubilee. DD and quite a few others have opted for Willoughby, meals in Cavendish (which is next door). Not ideal but FloBo apparently worth waiting for and they're not getting charged for 2 weeks' rent. It's gone really smoothly - Willoughby was empty (next to be refurbed apparently) so everyone in there is displaced FloBo people. Feels a bit empty and v tired but it's fine. The "Residential Experience team" are also putting more events / socials on when they do move in. Were told they've said 2 weeks to cover themselves but hoping it will be less. The group chats are rallying Smile

SueBoo28 · 22/09/2023 15:27

@Africa2go Thanks for the message! My daughter is going to Jubilee - she had some friends on the chats who arrived early this morning and they put her name down to be together. I've now spoken to Welcome Point and they've confirmed this. A bit further out than ideal but apparently theres about 150 of them in there. We were also told 2 weeks max and hopefully less! Bizarrely it's kind of taken my daughters mind off being sad at leaving!

Africa2go · 22/09/2023 17:59

Ahh good, am sure it will all be fine.

londonmummy1966 · 22/09/2023 18:19

DD sent me photos of her room which look unusually tidy! Gin bottle prominent next to kettle!

PetiteArabian9 · 22/09/2023 18:22

I actually lived on campus there (Derby Hall) and then off campus nearby in Beeston. Anything in particular you need to know? I haven’t read the other seven pages of comments yet so I’ll see if I can be informative.

PetiteArabian9 · 22/09/2023 18:25

Rooms come with a mini fridge. My dad would bring me food every so often. And I could never finish all my lunch. I never went hungry and I completely supported myself financially :( still reading through. But yes I can support the fact that halls were loud - not a lot of diversity if I’m being honest. I only discovered in semester 2 that they had blocks just for females and I moved into those. Had a bit of racism and really suffered. I had fun too but that was a damper.

ErnestMilton · 22/09/2023 18:35

It's changed since whenever you were there and is very diverse.

I just visited recently actually, as a researcher. CATERED halls have never been diverse when it comes to ethnic / religious backgrounds. Most read on forums about the racism there too so avoid catered and opt for self catered. This is my area of academic research. Didn’t know you knew each and every catered hall especially considering your child didn’t end up choosing one 🤭
I was the only one from my ethnic background and religious background (and both are not uncommon on campus or in the city at all, but are in the catered halls).

Africa2go · 22/09/2023 18:43

Agree with @ErnestMilton - from initial impressions today its very diverse.

PetiteArabian9 · 22/09/2023 18:49

How can you agree with her when she has no experience of catered halls!? If you mean it’s diverse because there’s a handful of students of mainland African descent or Indian descent then yes. But that isn’t diversity. Her child has barely started and hasn’t even chosen UoN catered halls. I was also there very recently and have actual experience. Neither of you are from my background either so don’t try to walk over my experience. Again, actual researcher with statistics of which backgrounds are in these specific halls as recent as last years intake. It will also include this years. When my paper gets listed this summer I’ll be back with it in tow.

DD isn't white. Dropped her off today - it's very diverse. Not here for a row, it's a helpful thread.

White but family not wholly British (see user name!). I am sure neither if us meant to offend you - and apologies if I have - just saying what my experience has been upto now.

jellycat · 22/09/2023 21:40

Thanks @londonmummy1966. Back home now. Room and kitchen were decent so ds was happy with that. After we left he went to see his friend from school (who’s in a different hall and went up last weekend) so I think he’s had a nice evening. Did your dd take the harp in the end?

Hope he's had a good evening. DD left the harp at home (no room in the car...) in the hope there might be one she could use.

Allloveisbeautiful · 22/09/2023 22:45

what are everyone’s DC’s studying?

Sssudio · 22/09/2023 22:57

Just back from dropping DS off at Broadgate Park, he's Classics. Thought there was a bar on site, I know the Union isn't very far but still didn't realise they had to leave to go out. He's happy enough, his room is bigger there than his one at home!

jellycat · 22/09/2023 23:19

Ah that’s a shame @londonmummy1966 - I did wonder if you’d fit it in! Hopefully she’ll be able to borrow one.

ds had a nice evening although he was offered weed when he arrived back at his hall, by a guy who said he was a 3rd year student….so the dealers are out on the prowl already!

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 23/09/2023 07:46

Just about to go and wake DS up so we can get going. He got home 5 hours ago so it's not the best start...🤦‍♀️

Fourcandlesx · 23/09/2023 08:35

We dropped off yesterday and everything went very well. Really lovely big room and the shared bathroom turned out to have 3 large showers and 2 toilets for the flat of 5. They have basically turned the 6th bedroom into a bathroom and fitted in as much as they can by the looks of it.

No trollies to use and it looked like a very long walk for those moving into Broadgate as they were being directed to park on campus. Probably too late to be useful information to anyone but suitcases on wheels but definitely be worth it for Broadgate.

Can't believe the mess up at Florence Boot. Hopefully it becomes a bit of a bonding experience for them.

The dining room seems to have played a blinder last night and got them all talking and socialising so that's good.

Good luck to anyone moving in today. There wasn't anyone checking arrival times so I wouldn't stress about trying to get there for your slot.

Sssudio · 23/09/2023 10:32

The Broadgate parking on main campus is only to collect the keys, you then get an hour's permit to park on Broadgate itself to unload

londonmummy1966 · 23/09/2023 12:35

@Sssudio DD is reading Ancient History and also at Broadgate so expect she'll be meeting your DS fairly soon as I gather there's a picnic tomorrow being organised on WhatsApp.

It all went pretty well yesterday except that they wouldn't open the disabled parking for DD/DH despite her having booked a disabled space. Room is lovely, her stuff fits and she was out until 3.15 this morning..........................

Sssudio · 23/09/2023 13:13

Ha @londonmummy1966 , he was in last night, sounds like your DD had fun. Rubbish about the parking for you though.
