DD got a place through clearing last Thursday. They guarantee an offer of accommodation. She put an application in immediately and then dashed off for a fortnight's holiday!

Not heard anything yet. Anyone have any knowledge of accommodation at Nottingham?

6-7pm on 23rd… better late than never 🤦🏻‍♀️😂😊

Tickledtrout · 13/09/2023 15:16

COVID addled brains here and probably a silly question but has everyone else had a guarantor agreement to return or us it for partner accommodation only? Catered hall, paid first installment. Anything else to do?
Thank you

Tickledtrout · 13/09/2023 15:17

Morning of the 23rd here. Trying to keep the piles to a minimum as she'll be clearing out her room every vacation. But the heart wants what the heart wants 😉

SleepWhenAmDead · 13/09/2023 15:45

@londonmummy1966
My DD also has studio (medical). She visited and they also have communal kitchen and dining room - there is social spaces :-)

Africa2go · 13/09/2023 15:57

@Tickledtrout my DD is in catered halls and we've not had a guarantor agreement to sign. I think there may be a different approach between UoN managed accommodation and other providers??

Tickledtrout · 13/09/2023 15:58

Thank you @Africa2go

jellycat · 13/09/2023 16:01

@londonmummy1966 as pp said, there are social spaces at Broadgate, there’s an area called the Courtyard with a big communal kitchen )for dinner parties maybe?), pool table, sofas and open plan study area.

Thank you @jellycat and @SleepWhenAmDead - that's good to know as the studio only has a hob and a microwave which isn't ideal.

jellycat · 13/09/2023 16:37

Yes, we looked at the studios and the kitchen area is very limited. Did you get a chance to visit? I took a photo although it’s not very good! Hopefully the microwave is a combination one that can be used for baking/roasting as well.

I don’t think she’d find that communal kitchen very useful unless she’s right next door, but as a social area I thought it was rather good.

There might be opportunities to move in the first few weeks - one of my work colleagues has a daughter who moved out of Broadgate into one of the catered halls a few weeks into her first term, so spaces in the flats might come up if she wants to move.

My DD checked. It's a combination oven.

londonmummy1966 · 14/09/2023 10:13

THanks @jellycat and @SleepWhenAmDead - will let her know - that will be so much better than just a microwave.

On another note does anyone know anything about the music department? DD is a harpist (although not going to read music) and would like to know if they have a harp and/or anywhere a harp could be kept - as there will not be space in her room for a full sized concert harp.......

Fourcandlesx · 20/09/2023 08:01

How are we all feeling?! Friday morning 10am for us so that's going to come around quickly. We haven't seen his room as all the photos on the website of the study plus seem to be the same. We are told the rooms are a decent size though (Nightingale) and I think there is room under the bed so I've gone for under bed storage boxes.

Allloveisbeautiful · 20/09/2023 11:14

Saturday for us and we are getting there as early as possible as our son had booked a 6-7pm
slot which isn’t helpful so I emailed and they said it’s the date that’s more important so we are just going to there earlier! Don’t know if we’ll bring storage boxes-are they essential ?!
All our son’s friends seem to have already started so I feel for him just hanging around! Will take him clothes shopping tomorrow to get a coat amongst other things 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Africa2go · 20/09/2023 13:01

Friday for us - @Allloveisbeautiful - my DD was told that the time is less important provided you do not arrive before your allocated slot (ours is 1pm)

Fourcandlesx · 20/09/2023 16:14

For anyone staying in catered halls, my son just checked on the app and he has £25 loaded onto his daily bites card. It wipes any balance and reloads every Monday so I'm fairly sure they have been generous and given them the full amount. Could be wrong of course!

mumsneedwine · 20/09/2023 17:54

Can spend any money left on the card at the Uni spa shop. So stock up on chocolate and nibbles on a Sunday.

Blubell46 · 20/09/2023 21:36

@Fourcandlesx hi my ds is moving into catered halls on Friday. What is the name of the app they need to download? He hasn't mentioned it.

Thank you

Fourcandlesx · 21/09/2023 08:34

@Blubell46 it's called mynottingham and it's on the app store. The meal card is just one of the things on there but it looks quite good in general.

Blubell46 · 21/09/2023 09:05

@Fourcandlesx thank you.

londonmummy1966 · 21/09/2023 13:36

My sitting room is now covered in boxes of kitchen stuff and IKEA bags of bedding etc. Tomorrow is D day - its all getting rather real.

jellycat · 21/09/2023 13:55

We’re going tomorrow as well. Lunchtime slot. Feeling apprehensive!

londonmummy1966 · 22/09/2023 11:45

@jellycat - sending hugs - the house seems very empty at the moment....

Allloveisbeautiful · 22/09/2023 12:10

We’re going tomorrow but 14 year old dd staying home. not sure how I’m feeling at the moment!

TriceratopsRocks · 22/09/2023 12:25

Good luck to all your Nottingham starters! I only just came across this thread, but I have 2 DC at Nottingham, both of whom were in catered halls in their first year. The DC who was in Sherwood last year loved it there. Said the food was great actually, and they loved being able to load up on lots of healthy vegetables (their words - they are on one of the Uni sports teams and very much into nutrition). They got free sports centre membership included too because of being in Sherwood (not all halls got this) so if your kids are sporty it's worth checking to see if this also applies this year.

SueBoo28 · 22/09/2023 12:41

Been following this thread but not a contributor! Just a heads up for anyone who has anyone due to move into Florence Boot (Uni park campus) - it's not finished! Daughter due to move in tomorrow and has friends she's met on gc moving in today. Told on arrival it's not ready and they are being moved to catered halls on Jubilee. Supposedly for 2 weeks but.... No communication from the accommodation team - in fact only yesterday they all had a moving in email and no mention that it wasn't ready!
