Bath University Accommodation

Hello, I’m not sure if it’s already being discussed somewhere, sorry if it is. DC has been accepted to Bath Uni (as a first choice) and we’re waiting for an accommodation email. Anyone has already received theirs? It’s our first experience with university application/life. Not sure how long the wait is and we’re getting a bit nervous. Should DC contact them? Or just wait patiently? Thanks for help.

My DD hasn't heard today; she applied before 1st July and Bath is her firm choice. There's something on Instagram that says the second batch of accommodation offers will be sent out 31st August and everyone on the waiting list will hear after 31st August. All crossed for next week that she gets something on campus.

I'm sure they wouldn't put one fresher in with a load of postgrads! Even 40 years ago, when I was put in postgrad accommodation in the town, there was a handful of us, and it was all great. There're positives and negatives of being in town and on campus.

I really hope so.

Which one did he get DeliciousViolets? Is he pleased?

Hope you hear soon hanka.

LightandAiry · 24/08/2023 19:33

It's a shame they can't do them all today as she's been on tenterhooks all day thinking she'll hear! She's resigned to possibly not having an ensuite (which is more expensive anyway). I told her the bathrooms are pretty much scrubbed out often and to keep a supply of antibac spray!

LightandAiry · 24/08/2023 19:34

@DeliciousViolets hopefully he got his 1st choice?

I assumed the first choice ones would hear today and the insurance/clearing ones on the 31st but obviously not. I hope they don't leave it too late.

Nothing today. It’s his first choice. I’m thinking maybe it’s alphabetical? Our surname is in the bottom part…

Our surname is at the top of the alphabet & not heard @hanka

LightandAiry · 24/08/2023 20:13

I am wondering if they send them in batches according to halls ie half of the halls this week - other half next week maybe to spread the admin & queries out that will follow.

hanka · 24/08/2023 20:17

Ah well. I’m out of ideas.😁 sitting and waiting 🙄

Yes it's a pain but it'll be OK 🤞

Crikeyalmighty · 24/08/2023 21:09

@So1invictus ha- can they all please go back so normal service resumes with the bus- I live round the corner and am missing my 1 every 3 minutes!!! At the moment it's pants

cmcc22 · 24/08/2023 22:22

No email for DS today. Do you think it's today or 31st or anytime between today and 31st?

CaveyWavey · 24/08/2023 22:43

My son got his accommodation email just after 4 today. He got his first choice. He had firmed bath and applied right on the 1 July deadline. We have three days to accept so I would assume that if students decline they then offer those rooms to insurance/clearing and students that missed the accomm deadline in the next round of emails. He seems to think that emails were being released one accommodation at a time. His appeared to be first as it was just after 4. Somebody on his WhatsApp group had phoned Bath to ask what time emails were being sent out and they said from 4pm. I expect they will work through the list of accommodation over the next day or so?

LightandAiry · 25/08/2023 07:04

@cmcc22 I believe if you've not heard today & Bath is firm choice you'll hear on 31st - that's what Bath's official Instagram page says anyway but DD doesn't think it's very clear.

First choices of accommodation that are turned down from first batch sent yesterday - I think may be offered to students whom they didn't allocate their first choice & applied by 1st July, and the emails will go out on 31st August.

Of course I am not sure, just working it out as my DD hasn't had her offer yet!

I am assuming my DD will hear on 31st as she'll be in the next batch of Bath as firm choice. I am suspecting she's not been allocated first choice of accommodation, but I could be wrong.

For insurance/clearing I think they will hear from 1st September 🤞I remember what it was like 3 years ago waiting to hear about my ds's insurance at Reading, the uncertainty is hard.

loobylou44 · 25/08/2023 07:50

Dd has her accommodation confirmed and she got her first choice. No deposit required and she was given 3 days to either accept or decline her offer.

DeliciousViolets · 25/08/2023 13:04

Maybe they sent offers to people with first choice accommodation offer; son got first choice. Then they can reallocate depending upon acceptance. A bit of a long process, I'm happy we heard but can empathise with those still waiting, good luck! We didn't really expect first choice but from what I've read everyone seems to end up happy with where they are.

CaveyWavey · 25/08/2023 15:00

On my DS' WhatsApp group the only people that got an email yesterday were those that got offered accommodation on the east side of campus (or could be a coincidence). There are still people in the group that did not hear yesterday.

GreenSalon · 25/08/2023 15:58

My DS got Quads which is the most expensive I think. Not the outcome we wanted but don’t want to risk waiting list…..

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 26/08/2023 08:13

My DS has had confirmation too. Feels very real now

LightandAiry · 26/08/2023 09:30

I am giving this far too much thought because we've not heard. I read firm choices are guaranteed accommodation but not necessarily on campus.....has anyone heard of firm choices not offered campus? DD would get used to it if that's the case.

So1invictus · 26/08/2023 09:54

My daughter knew of one boy last year who ended up off campus despite firming. BUT he put the off campus accommodation as his final choice- I think because nobody particularly wants to be in the city, if anyone, even in position 7, puts it, then the likelihood is they are going to get it.

OscarMikeGolf · 26/08/2023 10:19

Yes I read that somewhere else, if you put a city accommodation anywhere on your choice of 7 then you will get it.

It’s such a shame there’s not enough room on campus for everyone. My DS chose campus unis specifically because they are not too overwhelming. It’s absolutely gutting knowing he won’t be getting on-campus accommodation as it’s his insurance choice (if it was his firm and he didn’t get on-campus I’d be really quite annoyed). At least it’s Bath I suppose and not a really enormous city.

Maybe it’s time for these universities to start building some more on-campus accommodation with all the money they get from foreign students.

PerpetualOptimist · 26/08/2023 10:23

U of Bath publishes the number of places for each accommodation block on its website. If my sums are correct, the uni has just over 4000 accommodation places for Y1 undergraduates and around a fifth of these are now in the city centre (for self-catered and for ensuite, the proportion is potentially around a quarter).

So it is likely some of those who firmed as well as many who insured will be placed in the city centre. As accommodation allocation is outside their control, probably it is best for upcoming Y1 students to be accepting of that and plan to make the most of their situation how ever that pans out. That is a good mindset to adopt generally as there will be other situations such as module choices and subsequent years' accommodation where all cannot be controlled or anticipated.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 26/08/2023 10:34

does anyone know if students can be on campus for years 2 and 3? Or is it just 1? Thinking of those who are in the supported accommodations for additional support?

OscarMikeGolf · 26/08/2023 10:37

Trouble is they can’t plan when they haven’t been told where they will be, and leaving students not knowing until a couple of weeks before they start is a bit unfair, I think (Don’t they know there’s shopping to be done? 😉). I appreciate the accommodation department have a lot of work on their hands from results day onwards but surely there’s a quicker way of doing it?
It’s the not knowing that’s the worse part.
