Bath University Accommodation

Hello, I’m not sure if it’s already being discussed somewhere, sorry if it is. DC has been accepted to Bath Uni (as a first choice) and we’re waiting for an accommodation email. Anyone has already received theirs? It’s our first experience with university application/life. Not sure how long the wait is and we’re getting a bit nervous. Should DC contact them? Or just wait patiently? Thanks for help.

Young Ferret tells me they are eschewing the toga party.

Yeah, grim!

FerretFarago · 30/09/2023 12:13

Bath has embraced “woke” with genderless toilets and showers which is leading to arguments over toilet seats being left up etc.

fortyfifty · 01/10/2023 12:18

So you mean in the accommodation? They started to change the toilets in the library last year.

In the accommodation, my dd's flat split the two bathrooms into male and female.

FerretFarago · 01/10/2023 12:41

Yes accommodation although some of the students in the “house” want them separate again, and some don’t because there’s far more male than female.

LightandAiry · 01/10/2023 15:25

It's a divisive issue - DD hasn't said anything but I am yet to talk to her she seems to be very busy...

mrsconradfisher · 01/10/2023 18:55

Following with interest as DS is interested in Bath. He’s currently on a Gap year after a marking fiasco so would be applying with grades in hand. Does anyone happen to know whether if he got offered an unconditional place whether he’d get first choice with accommodation?
This year has been so stressful whilst waiting for remarks etc, I’m not sure I could take the stress of not knowing where he is going to live.

Audacity7 · 01/10/2023 18:59

Yes I believe those with grades in hand were allocated accommodation before those receiving grades this year.

Hope you got the remarks you needed - what a debacle this year!

mrsconradfisher · 01/10/2023 19:29

@Audacity7 thank you! And yes he did get the grades he needed, went from AAB to Astar AA. The whole thing has been a complete nightmare and very stressful.

LightandAiry · 01/10/2023 20:41

That is very stressful @mrsconradfisher he should be OK with accommodation.

Finally spoke to my DD she said they have divided the Bathrooms into single sex themselves - a house decision.

LightandAiry · 02/10/2023 07:46

How are they all getting on with the laundry? DD says the tumble dryers don't work and she is drying clothes on her shelves....

FerretFarago · 02/10/2023 10:07

Apparently you only find out the washing/drying machines are out of order after you’ve paid money on the app etc. and no idea how to get it refunded.

LightandAiry · 02/10/2023 14:42

I hope they report it

IAmNotReadyForThis · 03/10/2023 14:13

My 1st yr DS got allocated postgrad accommodation in the city as there were no halls left. But he has just received a council tax bill. What should he do? Reslife are not answering their phones or replying to emails.

SoIinvictus · 03/10/2023 14:42

They fill a form in on the council website.

Thanks @So1invictus

TJsAunt · 04/10/2023 10:48

@IAmNotReadyForThis - rooms are coming available in undergrad halls as people drop out - DS has already had a new housemate arrive. So if your dc wants to move into undergrad accommodation he needs to keep contacting the reslife team - and make sure he's on the wait list which I think goes live on the 16th?

LightandAiry · 16/10/2023 11:07

I hope everyone's DC are settling into their accommodation. It's been 3 weeks so far.

Have any of them thought yet about accommodation for the 2nd year? I remember my Ds signed up in the November for his house share. It seems so early to have found a bunch of housemates, but I've mentioned it to DD. She's made 1 best friend but not a bunch of friends yet. She's not massively social but she's friendly so hoping she joins up with others on her course/flat.

OscarMikeGolf · 17/10/2023 16:20

It does seem ridiculously early to be thinking about 2nd year accommodation. Trouble is, the friends they make at this early stage are not necessarily the ones they want to be sharing with next year, plus some of them may drop out before then too!

LightandAiry · 17/10/2023 18:15

Exactly that @OscarMikeGolf there's a month or so though but don't want to be too late. How is your DS settling in?

OscarMikeGolf · 17/10/2023 20:01

Yes leaving it too late could be a disaster given the accommodation issues this year.
He seems to be settling in fairly well, thanks for asking @LightandAiry. He’s joined a few societies/sports clubs and has made a couple of friends there but not sure they’re that close yet. Early days I suppose.

I hope your DD is finding her feet, I can’t believe they’ve been there nearly 4 weeks already.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 17/10/2023 20:22

DS has had a very slow start settling in. It’s been so difficult to watch. Fingers crossed we are on the up now though.

OscarMikeGolf · 17/10/2023 21:48

Oh that’s a shame @Thisisnotmyname2022 what subject is he studying? Has he joined any clubs? It’s such a big leap from what they know, it’s bound to take time to settle.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 17/10/2023 21:55

Robotic engineering, he’s joined a couple of societies but he is a very quiet, shy person. (ASD)

Im hoping he finds his feet soon.

GreenSalon · 17/10/2023 23:11

I hope so too @Thisisnotmyname2022 my youngest has ASD and this would be my worry. It’s so hard for them. My eldest however who is the one now at Bath is the opposite and has ADHD so comes across as quite “extra”. It does mean that they’ve settled in well and made friends but I know it takes longer for others.
having not wanted Quads he’s now enjoying it but complaining about the food voucher given quality of food so he’s cooking more now and resents the £25 a week on the voucher
