Congratulations on all the offers - it is now starting to feel like a proper stream! @Thethingswedoforlove we might also be able to help with Nottingham as DS is in his first year there.

Thethingswedoforlove · 10/03/2023 10:53

Thank you @Bimkom . For accom i think we can wait til April before we apply? She hasn’t heard from all choices yet but notts is a def strong contender….

Have to share the feedback from Sheffield - I am really wondering whether their spreadsheet has got a mistake on it as he failed on knowledge of city and course which is RIDICULOUS as his best friend is a first year medic at Sheffield and he has visited him 3 times this year, been to student events at the union and discussed the course with him and another first year medic from his school on the course. It should have been one of his best scores and I just can't believe that he should have failed that station!

It is also strange that he was offered a Biology degree when he is not doing Biology A level.

Luckily we are all laughing about it, a bonding experience for DS1 and DS2 as both failed the same station, which should have been their strongest!

I hope Julian Burton still drops in here occasionally!

This doesn't sound fair at all @Monkey2001 . How frustrating ! I am wondering if they always give the same feedback !!! Your DS is very committed and he will be a great doctor.

Cratos · 10/03/2023 17:55

@mumsneedwine, @justjuggling, @Thethingswedoforlove and @Haffdonga big congratulations !!!

Great news well done.

We are still on hold for Bristol too. No second hold email either like lots on TSR.

buckleten · 10/03/2023 18:21

No we didn't get a second on hold email either, not sure if that means anything or not...

Monkey2001 · 10/03/2023 18:27

Ooh, congratulations @buckleten !

Thethingswedoforlove · 10/03/2023 18:34

@buckleten congratulations! I went to Exeter - fond memories

I have a DD at Exeter (1st year). Feel free to ask any questions. She is loving it!

Last year they sent all offers at the same time and then put EVERYONE else on a wait list (ranked by interview score, using UCAT as a tie breaker). They seem to be doing things differently this year.

@buckleten @Rinkkk well done! Must say wish we had applied to Exeter, step DS went there and loved it……although a long road trip from Scotland.

justjuggling · 10/03/2023 21:24

Congrats @buckleten and @Rinkkk

Cratos · 11/03/2023 09:31

@buckleten @Rinkkk congratulations !!!!!

No news from Leicester or Liverpool. Leicester was my DS s earliest interview in January.

Monkey2001 · 11/03/2023 09:57

@Cratos I think the recent burst of Leicester offers were the February high scorers. I am sure that there will be more.

Thanks @Monkey2001.
We hope to get an offer from Leicester or Liverpool because they accept A*AB.
We thought his Leicester interview went well when we discussed. Just a bit strange that we heard from Bristol and Sheffield despite the fact that these interviews were 5- 7 weeks later but not from Leicester. I remember you said Liverpool interviews many candidates so I understand why Liverpool is late.

Hello,
@opoponax suggested I check out this thread a while ago after giving me some advice for my 16 year old daughter who is hoping to apply for medical school. It's been interesting (and slightly terrifying) to see the process from a distance - huge admiration for you and your DC going through it.
Hoping I can get some advice from you about how/if you manage(d) expectations earlier in the process. DD's whole experience so far is of excelling and doors opening for her. She is the highest achieving student in her year (Y11) in all her subjects, head girl, captain of netball team, great part time job etc etc. (School is a standard-to-poor comprehensive; we live in a postcode that will be eligible for at least some contextual applications.)
She knows the application-offer ratio for medical school and is doing her own research on TSR. But I mentioned something about strategic applications to her at the weekend (we were in a lovely university city so it came up) and she was quite dismissive of the idea. I think she knows logically that it's really hard to get in, and many/most applicants will be high achievers but she also has no experience at all of not being successful academically and I'm not sure she can really imagine it. I don't know to what extent I should be trying to plant those seeds, whether it will happen naturally with the step up to Sixth Form and a new cohort of peers, or if it's good for her to retain her confidence. If any of you relate to any of this, do you have any advice.
Thanks for reading, and good luck with the applications that your kids are still to hear from.

Monkey2001 · 13/03/2023 12:31

Congratulations @Rinkkk !

@3sthemagicnumber unless you have perfect stats you have to be strategic. If she gets 10 9s at GCSE, a UCAT over 3100 with band 1, predicted 3 A*s in Bio, Chem and Maths or Physics and has great work experience she can apply anywhere. Otherwise there may be some where she would not get an interview. Until you have full stats you can't assess where might be risky.

Millylovespuddles · 13/03/2023 17:06

@Rinkkk Congrats! If you have any queries about QUB, feel free to get in touch - my DD is in 2nd year there.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 13/03/2023 17:19

Exeter seem to be making offers.. DS at orchestra so can't ask him.....biting nails....

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 13/03/2023 17:19

And congrats @Rinkkk
