Thank you @opoponax

mumsneedwine · 02/12/2022 19:04

Hello everyone. Friday night gin so if I post anything don't listen to my advice 🍹

AsdaYellowTins · 02/12/2022 19:12

Thank you for setting up the new thread

Thethingswedoforlove · 02/12/2022 19:12

@mumsneedwine we love your post gin/ wine postings….

mumsneedwine · 02/12/2022 19:15

😊 as long as no one ever relies on them to apply !

Fantastic strategical applying on here. I'm v proud of all your DCs.

Thethingswedoforlove · 02/12/2022 19:17

It’s all due to the advice of you (pre wine/gin) and a few other amazingly helpful posters. We are so grateful.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 02/12/2022 20:04

Thanks for new thread!

BungledBundle · 02/12/2022 20:18

Thanks for new thread! I think people are still waiting to hear from Liverpool but has anyone heard anything from QUB?

Also any info on Edinburgh Scottish UCAT cutoff (I have checked TSR for this - not much though interviews are out). I advised DD not to apply for this (UCAT not high enough) so am slightly on tenterhooks that I messed up her chances if cut-offs are lower this year?

Well done to everyone's DC on all the interviews - brilliant news, and good luck.

Oh, the med school I posted about did change the interview date for my DD because of a genuine medical issue so v relieved about that.

mumsneedwine · 02/12/2022 20:26

@BungledBundle we've got on QUB interview so far. V v high UCAT though.

BungledBundle · 02/12/2022 20:37

Ahh ok - thanks @mumsneedwine . DD has 40 points - but I guess high UCAT would be 42 points. Just checked TSR and it seems there are still 40 point people waiting! DD is not the most organised but tbf she's had all the medical issues so I'm worried if she's missed anything.

Monkey2001 · 02/12/2022 20:48

Hello all! Great to hear more interviews are coming through.

@BungledBundle 40 will be fine at QUB. I think 38 won't be and 39 is in the balance.

UEA and Newcastle next week for DS, so a lot of travel. Good thing he likes trains!

opoponax · 02/12/2022 20:52

Good luck to all the DC for the interviews starting. DD is kicking hers off with Bristol next week.

Africa2go · 02/12/2022 21:01

@BungledBundle DD also waiting on QUB at 40pts. TSR has home non-contextual applicants invited with 39pts so I think it's just a question of waiting for the invite, it will be coming (that's what we're assuming anyway!)

mumsneedwine · 02/12/2022 21:02

To give you a giggle. I was running an MMI thing after school today and kids were a bit bemused by the station where they had to remove the black thing from the top of my gin bottle. Yes, I'd forgotten to get them to remove the security tag at the till. The ingenuity of the kids was fantastic, so I now gave gin 🥳

BungledBundle · 02/12/2022 21:13

Thanks so much @Monkey2001 and @Africa2go . Reassuring to know she's not missed anything.

Brilliant, @mumsneedwine , though assuming a gin-induced typo and you have gin rather than gave gin 😉😊

mumsneedwine · 02/12/2022 21:14

@BungledBundle 😂😂 well a couple were 18. But no, I'm not sharing my 🍸

Good luck with all the interviews, exciting times.

buckleten · 02/12/2022 23:52

DD also has Bristol and Exeter interviews next week, and a mock booked with a teacher on monday!

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 03/12/2022 10:57

Was really glad to read this morning about so many interview invites yesterday! Well done DC! Wishing your off springs successful MMI and panel (O&C) interviews! What I did learn from the one which DD sat this week: trying to calm the nerves is crucial, pity DD didn't managed that before/during the interview and as a consequence forgot to mention in her answers a few important things (IMHO). Oh, well... You live and learn.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 03/12/2022 14:41

Ds Had a trial run getting onto a Zoom call from his laptop ready for Thurs iv. Glad we did... his lap top was still coming up as 'Mum' ... a hangover from when we had Zoom calls when we were in cpvid isolation and the kids thought it was funny to try to confuse everyone on the call by mis naming themselves and then not turning their cameras on..... that would have looked great to the Cambridge interviewer!!!!!

christmaspartyseason · 03/12/2022 16:08

@GoldieRetrieversRule1 same situation here. My DD had an interview this week and she refused to talk about it afterwards for hours. I think she didn't do well but haven't asked too much as it won't change the outcome.
She forgot to mention a few very important things sadly. Prior to this she had a few excellent mock interviews so nerves really do play a part.
I was waiting outside with the next set of candidates waiting and 2 of the students were so so nervous, shaking and pale.
It's so tough for them. My DD normally doesn't overthink things eg. I couldn't get her out of bed that morning but obvs the nerves kicked it when she was in the room. A plus factor though- she said all the examiners were very kind.
She has an online interview this week and this is her favourite by a long mile. I hope she can hold her nerve.

The gin wrestling made me smile- you may yet start a trend there @mumsneedwine . Next year perhaps a station on getting scissors out of a sealed pack without scissors.I’m sitting in a cafe waiting DD2 to finish a bit of shopping- DD1 is at home supposedly doing interview prep although when I left she was making important biscuits for a friend….. I am dancing the line between expressing my inner ‘THIS COULD BE THE ONE SHOT ‘ and letting her get there in her own much less time conscious way. Also it turns out that I’m the only one in the family who is good at 20 questions - and I’m beginning to think including it in the MMI is a stroke of minor genius. The interview is Tuesday but I’m putting her on the train early Monday and from there the plan includes a very lovely great aunt and DH hopefully getting in from work trip to Manchester that evening and driving over to Sheffield for a handover. If it all falls apart she will have her interview clothes, a toothbrush and a hotel booking. I have to remind myself she is a perfectly capable 18 year old and in 6 months time will be out in the real world.

mumsneedwine · 03/12/2022 16:34

Remember everyone is nervous and the Unis do expect this. They don't want cocky, they want to see that you care. If DCs feel it's gone badly, have a cry, then stick it all in an imaginary box and pop it on an imaginary shelf. To be dealt with later - for now they need to move on to the next hurdle, whether it's another interview, mocks or just studying. They only need one offer and you never know how you've done. DD did her Liverpool interview with a temp of 102, pumped full of drugs and very grumpy. She has no idea how or why they gave her an offer !

Thethingswedoforlove · 03/12/2022 17:10

@mumsneedwine why did your dd pick nottingham over liverpool out of interest? They are my dds favourites (not even a liverpool interview yet so this is a very theoretical thought process!).
